Very helpful, thank you. My wife's 2001 Monte Carlo had this problem, so I removed the ignition switch and checked that connector, which was found to be a bit loose. I didn't see any way to remove the wiring pins, but I did notice that a cable tie had been placed around the ignition housing, apparently to hold the connector in place and it had slipped out of position. Probably done by the dealer when they did the GM ignition switch recall repair. I cut that tie off and replaced it, then wrapped electrical tape around the housing to hold it in place. So far the car starts fine and the SECURITY message hasn't been seen again.
My 2001 Sierra 1500 was doing this. I followed your steps and it worked perfectly. If you are looking for something to put next to the plug to keep it from wiggling and coming loose again I used the sharp end of a zip tie. It was small, it gets progressively thicker and it's easy to cut. Thanks again. No more annoying Security light.
Tried it on my 2001 Suburban just now n it worked!!!!...thank you!!!...i was stranded at my aunts job n handily had a bobbypin to loosen the wires from the clip...plugged it back in and waited then it started...u r a genius!!!!...thought i would have to pay a tow truck and a shop to get it fixed...
@@Houston0068 srry so late...i broke my turn signal switch...n the guy that tried to fix it messed up wires n the module when he was taking the old one off to replace it...new part wasnt the right one...so when he put the old part back on it wouldnt turn over and the security light was stuck on even when the truck was off...had another guy replace the old switch and it wrkd for a while then the security light would flash quickly abt three times before going to the next alert and wouldnt turn over...tried this n it wrkd...no issues since...
Thanks for this. I think this fixed my no start problem on my 02 Duramax. I been fighting this for years. 2 different cars. I even took it to Chevrolet once they just threw parts at it. I learned to live with it. Just had to wait 15 minutes every now and then. I think this should have been a recall. Thousands of people have this problem.
Did your truck start and turn off immediately? I have had that problem since Inpurchaed the truck and have jot fixed the issue, but now that my boy is going to start driving it I dont want him starnded someplace because it wont start since he will ise it for school.

Just bought a 2001 tahoe the other day and it has a few wires hanging out amd cut. Everything is working loke it should but it looks like i better take the plastic off to see of they bypassed it somehow and double check everything. Thanks for the upload.
Results! 2003 suburban,so I checked the switch made it more tighter,but my problem was a ground going to the PCM,they are two ground wires behind the block on top and one of them was completely broken.all fix.😁👍🍻
@@ramiresamador2383 Theirs 2 braided wires behind the engine block, like on the corners. Buy the ground wires a napa auto parts. Google ground wires location.
5 years later, still driving, no blinking, still good. I would love to know how you're making your gas last sooo long. My 25 gallon tank needs filling every week.

For everyone else out there wondering what’s going on after your ECM swap, for a 1999 - 2000 Silverado, you can swap an ECM from a similar enough vehicle. Generally it will run, sometimes it won’t. Where I’m at, if it doesn’t run after the swap then my dealer can re-flash it for $90. I will post about this in my channel when my engine swap is done
@@TheCuban.45 I completed my swap. The ECM from 2000 Sierra 5.3l did not allow my 1999 Silverado 5.3l to run, but my stock 1999 Silverado 4.8l ECM did allow the engine to run. I believe this is due to the VIN on the ECM not matching the VIN in the BCM (BCM is located in the dash near the steering wheel). My 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette minivan message center does the same thing as yours: Battery light, low fuel, and security. What other symptoms did you have? Did the engine crank or start? Mine will not start or crank at all.....
Well if that doesn't work then it's your tbc fuse which is located in the fuse box in the engine.. it's a 10amp by the way.. it should get rid of that security light and if your headlights don't work or interior lights then it more then likely is that tbc fuse... Truck:2000 gmc sierra 1500 5.3
i have similar issue does this security light some kind of safety mechanism to keep from starting in the case of stolen vehicle? everything is brand new and sounds perfect it could be the only other reason it wont start
Question, you stated that the truck had to sit for 20 mins to get the light to go off. Is that with the ignition switch on or off? When turned on the message center strolls through. When powered off the security light stays solid and never goes out.

One thing I noticed was the fuses in fuse box started corroding would test ok with a simple test light but measuring the voltage across them was erratic. Decided to pull every fuse and found 5 to 10 of them corroded even a few that tested ok but once pulling them out broke because of it so I took ever fuse out and cleaned every terminal used die electrical grease and installed almost half with new fuses and all issues went away later on I replaced the whole fuse panel because for some reason they corroded on the bottom and internally (once I took the old panel apart to see it was green cancer everywhere) plus another huge things with these trucks is grounds specially the one by the cab mount under the drivers door hope this helps in any way
Did you also happen to have your abs fuse for your brakes pulled as well? I was getting a low speed wobble when braking and had to take my abs fuse out, otherwise I wasn't able to stop cause the abs system would kick in. That was a year ago and now my security light is on and ran down a brand new battery. Do you think this is my problem?
@@TheCuban.45 OK, anyways, I am very thankful for your video because it gives me something else to look at. I needed a new battery anyways, the old walmart battery lasted me 7 years, so I couldn't believe that either. I will check to see if I have the same problem as you. I hope so cause it looks like an easy and cheap fix. BTW, if you ever have trouble with your brakes when you are driving slow and the brakes start acting funny, then all you have to do is pull that abs fuse and it solves your problem. At least until you find out why you are getting a low speed wobble. Which more than likely means you need to install a new hub. Thanks again!!!

I recently bought a 2002 chevy tahoe. Runs good, drives nice, no dents on the body. For myself it only has one problem. Every time unlock the door and open it the security light will come on and horn will start honking until you put the key in and start the engine. It has no problem starting the engine and does not happen if opening an unlocked door. Only if door is locked. Any solutions on how to fix this is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
was your light on when the truck was off? my lights on sold 24 7 no flashing. i can start the truck drive it just fine but it slowly drains the battery and if i dont drive it daily it kills it then have to replace it from constantly dying. i am going to try this after work regradless just trying to pin point it before hand if i can.
I have a similar problem with my 2002 Chevy Silverado, after replacing the fuel pump, spark plugs, gas filters etc it still wouldn't start... so at this point ill try anything.. I'll give it a shot tomorrow and give feedback. Wish me luck.
Hey I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 and my security light is flashing at the moment as well but the problem with my truck Is after running for about 10 minutes all power will shut off it will completely die and when I go to start it back up it tries to turn over but sounds like it’s not getting gas do you think it’s the same problem

What was the main issue just the light? my 2002 alarm system just goes off for nothing at any given time when using the remote key lock. rouge security system works random. leave it unlocked no problem, only when locked?

The Cuban .45 what's up ? If that wire is loose will it keep truck from starting even stop it from starting spraying starting fluid into throttle body? Truck just quit while driving . my window was down and it rained like hell inside of truck causing door to keep locking and unlocking the next day . then the alarm would turn on randomly during the following day

Question I'm having an issue like this but only with the door open and I was wondering if it might interfere with the reason I have no power to my fuel pump for it to start will this reset the security so that everything will work again
I have the same problem with my 2002 chevy 1500. Even the low fuel indication issue, but also the temp gauge not working either. I tried this trick, but no cigar. I guess it could be the ignition switch, will try that next. I tried the instrument cluster in another truck and it works fine. Right now, the instrument cluster is removed since it drains the battery overnight.
I’m a little dense, sorry. When I have the issue of my 2002 Tahoe not starting sure you saying a loose connection is the problem? Some of these videos say the vehicle will start for 3 seconds then die, my problem is I turn the key and I get nothing, no start no click or anything. Will this work for me?
My 2002 gmc yukon did the same thing I turned it on and the battery light was blinking the security light was blinking low fuel light was blinking, my doors wouldn't lock on there own like the normally do when you pull it into drive my gas gage temp gage wouldn't work either! And when I would pull it into drive it wouldn't light up on what gear I was in.
Check the negative ground cable that goes from your battery to the red junction box. Then follow the negative from there to a bolt on your engine block. Clean it and tighten it. It makes the truck act crazy when it's loose or dirty with engine grime and oil residue. It took me one steering column, key cylinder, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injector pressure regulator and a whole lot of reading until I found a video on yt with this info.
I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado , while on the high way , all lights cut out , expect turn signals and break lights truck did not die till next morning , now it won’t start if not driven for hours , security light turns on I’m able to jump It but no lights turn on low and high beams , no interior lights either any help ?
My 01 Silverado has a sporadic issue of not starting: turn key and hear less than a second of fire, then shuts down automatically. I’ll be stranded for a while. I did this crimp and the same issue returned. Maybe it’s the housing like he suggested.
Timothy Weinert I don’t have the security light on when it starts either. The problem may be the housing because of the magnetic signal within that helps generate the proper voltage.
My 99 is doing this ATM but we aren't trying to fix it ATM we are trying to fix the trans and t case adapter that broke due to a u joint blowing out the drive shaft

is the security light supposed to be flashing while the truck is off? i never had an issue with it not starting cus of it, im not 100% sure if it stays on while im driving, my check engine light stays on so i tend to overlook my indicator lights by default.. something lately has been draining my battery and im trying to figure out if that little security light can be a drain. Didnt isolate any issues through a parasitic draw test, so all i have left is glove box light, hood lamp, and this security light
@@TheCuban.45 i havent gotten my battery back in yet to verify if it flashes while the truck is off or just when i open the door. i dont have a fob so i use the key to unlock, and power locks to lock unless one of them is sticking too hard for the motor, idk if any of that makes a difference. But the truck always starts, ive never had it not start cus of it. all i know for sure is when i open the door i see it flashing when i get in, i need to verify if its on before i open the door and if its on while im driving i guess. Trying to find answers but seems my issue is just slightly different than what most these videos are about
My problem is that I’m having to take the negative wire off the battery ,take a pair of jumper cables connect to the positive and to the negative and wait 15 or 20 minutes to reset the security system because the truck will not stay running ,I need to do away with the security altogether ,how do I do that?

I know this has been up awhile but i have a 2001 GMC Yukon. It is doing the same thing. The first time it did thisdisconnecting the battery stopped it. Now its doing it again and disconnecting the battery didnt work. My mechanic in town said take it to the dealer. Im a disabled senior citizen . is this something i could do? If so how do you take the cover off?

Envwee I have not put my engine back in yet. I think I’ll end up just using the same one and having it reprogrammed to run like a 5.3l. Though, out of curiosity I may drop the 5.3l ECM in there to see what it does. The dealership claims it should run no problem. For issues like that you should reach out to your local Chevy dealer and ask someone in parts. They’ll be able to tell you right away
My husband just replaced the starter. The battery was disconnected. Now it doesn’t start. The battery light and the light that says security is flashing & that is it. My deck turns on but my gauges and everything else doesn’t move. No crank no noise nothing! Hoping this could be it!?
Trying this when I get home tomorrow! My 02 Tahoe was parked for 2yr and I jumped it off. It crunk up fine for 2weeks straight and after I replaced the battery it never started again. Security light is on. I will let you know the results

GOOD old GM ; They build a critical over riding system and use hairlike wires and crappy connecting posts IN A MOVING environment :: EVERY time I work on GM I swear I want to line up their pinhead engineers and commit a felony ! WHAT, were they thinking ? I have switched to Honda and KIA- AMaaaazing engineering on a KIA !

Check your knock sensors. I had to change mines. Was making the computer run the engine fuel mix incorrect.

There's a time out after u change the parts. Give it a good 30 minute n try it again. If the security light is still on then u still got problems.

U need to let the truck sit with the ignition switch off for more then 20 minutes. It will reset after that.

It may b related. But for me it was just the security ligh blinking.

My light is off when the truck is not running.
How do you take the steering console off to fix the problem and put it back on again?
The screws are at the bottom. Then pull it apart.

It sounds like it is. It doesn't hurt to try this fix. It's help many others.
it would have been better if you try start it before and after,cause the sound of the truck that it start helps alot, cause my sound like it want to start!
What was the main issue just the light? my 2002 alarm system just goes off for nothing at any given time when using the remote key lock. rouge security system works random. leave it unlocked no problem, only when locked?
Mine was just the light. But others had problems starting the truck.

A dental pick end. Brake off the tip n use that.

Gonna try this on my 99 Silverado cause I am having that same issue. Truck starts up, but the Security light stays solid even when off. I am going to try this tomorrow.

The Cuban .45 what's up ? If that wire is loose will it keep truck from starting even stop it from starting spraying starting fluid into throttle body? Truck just quit while driving . my window was down and it rained like hell inside of truck causing door to keep locking and unlocking the next day . then the alarm would turn on randomly during the following day
I took my truck to the dealer and got it fixed. Turns out a damn mouse chewed the wire in my distributor box. There was dead mice in there.
What do they call that housing that you put the three wires in. And what is the housing going into what's the name of that piece?? And where can it be found???

Question I'm having an issue like this but only with the door open and I was wondering if it might interfere with the reason I have no power to my fuel pump for it to start will this reset the security so that everything will work again

I have the same problem with my 2002 chevy 1500. Even the low fuel indication issue, but also the temp gauge not working either. I tried this trick, but no cigar. I guess it could be the ignition switch, will try that next. I tried the instrument cluster in another truck and it works fine. Right now, the instrument cluster is removed since it drains the battery overnight.
I’m a little dense, sorry. When I have the issue of my 2002 Tahoe not starting sure you saying a loose connection is the problem? Some of these videos say the vehicle will start for 3 seconds then die, my problem is I turn the key and I get nothing, no start no click or anything. Will this work for me?

My 2002 gmc yukon did the same thing I turned it on and the battery light was blinking the security light was blinking low fuel light was blinking, my doors wouldn't lock on there own like the normally do when you pull it into drive my gas gage temp gage wouldn't work either! And when I would pull it into drive it wouldn't light up on what gear I was in.

Check the negative ground cable that goes from your battery to the red junction box. Then follow the negative from there to a bolt on your engine block. Clean it and tighten it. It makes the truck act crazy when it's loose or dirty with engine grime and oil residue. It took me one steering column, key cylinder, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injector pressure regulator and a whole lot of reading until I found a video on yt with this info.

Sounds like u got major problems in ur fuse box. Check the ground to it first.

My 01 Silverado has a sporadic issue of not starting: turn key and hear less than a second of fire, then shuts down automatically. I’ll be stranded for a while. I did this crimp and the same issue returned. Maybe it’s the housing like he suggested.
My 02 Envoy is doing this and I don't have a security light on.

Timothy Weinert I don’t have the security light on when it starts either. The problem may be the housing because of the magnetic signal within that helps generate the proper voltage.
My 99 is doing this ATM but we aren't trying to fix it ATM we are trying to fix the trans and t case adapter that broke due to a u joint blowing out the drive shaft

is the security light supposed to be flashing while the truck is off? i never had an issue with it not starting cus of it, im not 100% sure if it stays on while im driving, my check engine light stays on so i tend to overlook my indicator lights by default.. something lately has been draining my battery and im trying to figure out if that little security light can be a drain. Didnt isolate any issues through a parasitic draw test, so all i have left is glove box light, hood lamp, and this security light

@@TheCuban.45 i havent gotten my battery back in yet to verify if it flashes while the truck is off or just when i open the door. i dont have a fob so i use the key to unlock, and power locks to lock unless one of them is sticking too hard for the motor, idk if any of that makes a difference. But the truck always starts, ive never had it not start cus of it. all i know for sure is when i open the door i see it flashing when i get in, i need to verify if its on before i open the door and if its on while im driving i guess. Trying to find answers but seems my issue is just slightly different than what most these videos are about
My problem is that I’m having to take the negative wire off the battery ,take a pair of jumper cables connect to the positive and to the negative and wait 15 or 20 minutes to reset the security system because the truck will not stay running ,I need to do away with the security altogether ,how do I do that?

I know this has been up awhile but i have a 2001 GMC Yukon. It is
doing the same thing. The first time it did thisdisconnecting the battery stopped it. Now its doing it again and disconnecting the battery didnt work. My mechanic in town said take it to the dealer. Im a disabled senior citizen . is this something i could do? If so how do you take the cover off?

Go to the junk yard n get a new connector and wires from anoter truck n reconect it.

Envwee I have not put my engine back in yet. I think I’ll end up just using the same one and having it reprogrammed to run like a 5.3l. Though, out of curiosity I may drop the 5.3l ECM in there to see what it does. The dealership claims it should run no problem. For issues like that you should reach out to your local Chevy dealer and ask someone in parts. They’ll be able to tell you right away

My husband just replaced the starter. The battery was disconnected. Now it doesn’t start. The battery light and the light that says security is flashing & that is it. My deck turns on but my gauges and everything else doesn’t move. No crank no noise nothing! Hoping this could be it!?

Trying this when I get home tomorrow! My 02 Tahoe was parked for 2yr and I jumped it off. It crunk up fine for 2weeks straight and after I replaced the battery it never started again. Security light is on. I will let you know the results

Next time you might want to try just sitting your phone on top of the dashboard with the camera facing down maybe that will work
