Ive studied Karpis quite a bit over the years ..I even exchanged emails with Robert Livesey a while back trying to get an orginal copy of the book he wrote with Karpis . Just a very smart and interesting person born into a strange time and place
Gotta love old "Creepy Karpis". My dad's cousin was in Alcatraz in the 50's with Karpis. Both were from Kansas so they became friendly with each other. Karpis supposedly told my dad's cousin that his biggest regret was that J. Edgar Hoover used that arrest to become a faux hero.
I was just in Cali & I visited Alcatraz. It was a prison from 1934-1963. It's a very interesting place to visit. I'm planning to re visit it someday when I got back to Cali. Thanks for posting the video. Gives some kewl info into the prison.
Karpis got out in '69. Hoover died in '72. It must've been maddening to Hoover the morning he picked up his newspaper and saw that Alvin had been paroled and there was nothing he could do about it.
He's so kind and intelligent. I'll always be shocked that he was a gangster. Even from other stuff I read about when he was in the Karpis-Barker gang, he seemed to be nicer then the rest of the gang members, but of course he still held his ground. A gentleman, suit wearing, gangster, you don't see that anymore.
If you can find a copy of the book "On the Rock" by Karpis, buy it! All the things that happened; the attempted escapes by other convicts, his friendships with other famous prisoners, etc. It reads like some kind of crazy prison movie. But it was all real.
There he is walking around beautiful Montreal live here now and lived there at the time he was walking our city I would not think anything of him if I met him

Probably one of the smartest criminals of modern times. If you can find a copy of his book "On The Rock", get it! It's amazing!

Alvin spent 27 years on Alcatraz, longer than any other inmate did.
Karpis is hardly creepy here.
Seems like a real bright guy.
Thanks.
hugh grant look like the dude @ 0:56 on his mugshot hahaha
karpis is an OG!
@0:51 Karpis looks like a young Christopher Walken, casting agents take heed!
That’s why his nickname was “Creepy Karpis”
Read any of the three Sinister Forces books by Peter Levenda and you'll see tons of synchronistic events that happened sinc WW11.
The "Public Enemies" version of him sounds like Batman lol
the arrator kinda looks like that captain guy in jaws
polomick92: The narrator is actor Howard Duff
Alvin!!!
Bird was a psycho - Hollywood missed that out.
ALVIN THE MAN ! TUESDAY 4/6/21
does anyone know when this was documented?
I think it was in 1971 I live in Montreal
Alvin doesn't look too happy.
How in the double hell did Karpis escape? The electric chair? He was actually a sociopath and hid it well.
Why did he deserve the chair?
He’s so cute
You’re probably one of those Ted Bundy fan girls, aren’t you? I just don’t get some women’s fascination with murderers.
1979
When did he die???
poopooman38111 1979
