15:53 but the most resilient here is Bg7 to give up the pawn when the counterplay black gets following this line is really strong & unpleasant for white. Svidler discovered this in his youth and it later became one of the main moves
@@garudapurachess ahhhh ok, that´s what i kinda suggested but i wasn´t sure i was remembering it well in that position specifically. It makes sense that they´ll get compensation thought, i think i´ve had a tournament game like that a long time ago. Apparently ...Ne4 is still played more often but ...Bg7 it´s more testing.
That's very interesting to me personally, as the Russian Variation is one of the few i've never tried. And i think it's a particularly good nowadays as a bit of a surprise, 'cause the thing is: it's still played quite often by GM's but it was such a main main main line in the 80's 90's and 2000's that now the black grunfeld players are not expecting it as much as before. What i really like about it, besides the fact that it is very aggressive, is that no-one can grasp it, not even Gm's as in Carlsen-Vachier Lagraeve 2019 where both players made a loooot of mistakes even during the opening and early middle game.
Great video! When I was researching the Grunfeld, the overwhelming theory really put me off but as a spectator it looks really interesting

I prefer the Russian variation. But grunfeld is a very tough defense

@@PauseTheVideoAndThink i still have about a 50% win loss ratio against it 😆
