  • In October, 2023 Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the B.C. Wildlife Federation, the Nature Trust of BC, and the Province of BC's Aquatic and Ecosystems Research Branch met to begin developing standardized hydrometric monitoring procedures. These procedures aim to capture the effectiveness of beaver dam analogues (BDAs) as a restoration tool.
"BDAs are an emerging restoration tool that has proven to be quite promising in retaining water on the landscape. They assist in addressing challenges such as drought, wildfires, and in enhancing habitat quality," says David A Reid, Senior Restoration Science Coordinator with the Restoration Centre of Expertise at DFO.
We're excited to have a variety of partners on board and interested in our upcoming "10,000 Wetlands" project, which aims to build 100 BDAs and subsequently create 10,000 wetlands over the course of three years.
Thank you to the Government of Canada, Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, and Province of BC for funding our attendance at this workshop.
