I'm so glad you are reviewing Blue Oyster Cult in my opinion this is the most underrated band their albums are great and their album specters could stand up to any Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin album!
Funny how long the years this song was out I never paid attention to the lyrics. Now I'm hedging towards 70 and holy shit, these lyrics are POWERFUL. Waiting for my husband to come and get me..... As far as songwriting goes, they were ahead of their time.
"Don't Fear The Reaper" All our times have come Here but now they're gone Seasons don't fear the reaper Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain We can be like they are Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper) Baby, take my hand (don't fear the reaper) We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper) Baby, I'm your man La, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la Valentine is done Here but now they're gone Romeo and Juliet Are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet) 40, 000 men and women everyday (like Romeo and Juliet) 40, 000 men and women everyday (redefine happiness) Another 40, 000 coming everyday (we can be like they are) Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper) Baby, take my hand (don't fear the reaper) We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper) Baby, I'm your man La, la, la, la, la La, la, la, la, la Love of two is one Here but now they're gone Came the last night of sadness And it was clear she couldn't go on Then the door was open and the wind appeared The candles blew and then disappeared The curtains flew and then he appeared Saying don't be afraid Come on, baby (and she had no fear) And she ran to him (then they started to fly) They looked backward and said goodbye (she had become like they are) She had taken his hand (she had become like they are) Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper)
Thank you for not talking all the way through the song and interrupting the flow every few seconds. A lot of reactors do that and it p*sses me off to no end. Now that you’ve heard the studio album version, I highly recommend you listen to the live version from the album, Some Enchanted Evening. The live versions are usually only any good if you happened to actually be there in that moment. I always recommend listening to the original album version of any song 1st because that’s as close as it’s possible to get to what the artist originally intended. This live version is a very rare exception. If you liked this guitar solo, you’ll love this live version and there’s a mind blowing extra guitar solo at the end that’s even better! Much love and thank you. You’re why rock and roll will never die. ❤
Just discovered you today. Don't Fear the Reaper was my favorite song growing up. Love it just as much today. Thanks for not stopping the songs in the middle to react like a lot of other reviewers do.
Love Blue Oyster Cult. They are so consistent in everything and live they are awesome. If there was a large outdoor concert going on 80% they'd be on the list.
Thank you so much for not interrupting this song with commentary. The profoundness of this song lies in it's story telling which should not be interrupted. I was as a fan and bought (and still own) this album almost 45 years ago, that's how timeless this song is.
Excellent group of the 70's, I love this song, it's about everlasting love, losing a loved one and having that loved one help you to the other side where they are.
Probably in the top Ten concerts I ever seen I have seen many... those live B.O.C concerts where amazing.. lasers and all...they all could sing and play guitar..miss live concerts of this area..
You've hit studio versions of good, representative BOC songs; now, check out a live performance. I highly recommend either "Astronomy" or "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" for their amazing guitar work and chilly tones.
This was played a lot at carnivals and state fairs because it was long (2 parts), because there was always a sound that pulled the ear of everyone as it was soft and hard rock combined (drum beat, strings, voice) and because of the message that thrills are to be enjoyed, so Ride the Reaper unafraid. It was played so often, it became a background sound that we enjoyed while doing homework or work work or hanging out having fun.
Man I'm so glad you said that about being able to pick out a bass line even if you might not have been as good at it 6 months ago. It's something I see on reaction channels a lot where they'll talk about all the obvious things and miss the bass line ne and how important it was. And in this case I would actually say it was the rhythm section, because it was the bass and drums doing the heavy lifting even in the more mellow parts, but also during that outro but then of course every part of it is stellar in the end. I can't remember if you have done Godzilla yet but that is another fan favorite by them.
One of the best concerts I saw in the 70's. Great time to be young. The music, the freedom ,so glad to have been able to experience it. It was a glorious time.
Now that you've heard the song, you will definitely enjoy the Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch starring Will Farrell that features the song and lightly pokes fun at it, "More Cowbell."
If anyone is listening to BOC for the first time here are three more great song samples: 1) Debbie Denise (About a cat) 2) Burnin' for You 3) Shooting Shark (Look for the 7 min. long version). Enjoy!
I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice. My favorite BOC song and always will be. The beginning of Stephen King's "The Stand" (1994 and best version) features this at the beginning. Some folks back when this was on the radio every day thought it was encouraging suicide but deep down it's a love song. "The love of two is one". Another band with this kind of vibe and depth you need to check out if you haven't already is Kansas. Fun fact: Before they were Blue Oyster Cult, they were The Great White Underbelly.
I had never heard of BOC until a friend in 1974 invited me to go to see them. And the tickets were like $4.50, which was cheap back then. Other bands were getting maybe $6.50, the Who and the Rolling Stones maybe $750 or $8.50. So, I'd never heard of BOC, but for $4.50 I had nothing to lose. And it was a brilliant marketing move by the band, because it introduced the band to a lot of us that didn't know them but went anyway because the tickets were cheap! And for all of us there that hadn't known the band when we got there, we sure as hell knew them when we left! Man, what a show! Next, I humbly suggest any track from their live album from way back then, "On Your Feet or On Your Knees". I was seriously addicted to that album. The show I was at was the same tour, I'm pretty sure.
I was also first exposed to BÖC by seeing them live in '75. By they time they played "Five Guitars" I was hooked, they've been my all time favorite band since. They still tour and have played more concerts than any other band. The newest album (The Symbol Remains-2020) is great. Always enjoy seeing first time reactions by these "youngsters" 😉
Still one of my favorite songs because that lick runs through the song nearly the entire time it only has two breaks. That's so impressive. And the vocals are beautiful
COWBELL! (sorry,I had to do that) I saw them at T-Car raceway in Reno,Nevada,in the 70's. It was outside and really hot. There was this band BOC,and REO Speedwagon and a couple of other bands. My freind and I were doing duty handing out small aolo cups of Gatorade to everyone out in the audience.
Hey JM BOY I have a few more songs you might like from various artists Wasn’t sure you see them tho. Canned Heat - On the Road Again Butts Band - Love ur Brother Allman Bros Band - Ramblin Man Just to name a few I have so many others please let me know where to send them… I new to this genre so if u played some of these let me know. Love ur reactions & facial expression so glad you do not interrupt the music.. I know what it’s like to hear new music I was @ a concert in the early 70’s Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee so awesome. 🤯
JMBOY TV, every day, from behind the 3-point line - nothing but net. Great music and 'The College Of Musical Knowledge' commentary. Thanks for all the great music and your views. Always top shelf.
Seen your thumbnail hommie and I just wanted to say flip your face to right side with the everything else on the left. You don't want your text to be behind the video length on the thumbnails for mobile.
While I love that you groove to the beat, my friend, I’d love for you to be able to ingest the song, its lyrics the pace and mood of the music and give a more in-depth assessment to this song. I’ve watched a few and while I can see you groove to the song, I’d love a more in-depth and honest feedback of what you got back from it, because to me, at least, I can relate more than a simple nod in time to a good beat. Tell us what you think and feel about the track. It gives for more than just a free listen to the track. Kudos for trying.
Knowing that Guitar solo was coming and it will hit those JBL Headphones like a Lazer cutting right through your head.... I just smiled and watched.
This was their biggest radio hit. It got played a lot in my vehicles. Nice addition to your Playlist.
I'm so glad you are reviewing Blue Oyster Cult in my opinion this is the most underrated band their albums are great and their album specters could stand up to any Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin album!
speaking of blue oyster cult and black sabbath, i saw both of them on the "black and blue" tour.
Agreed
Funny how long the years this song was out I never paid attention to the lyrics. Now I'm hedging towards 70 and holy shit, these lyrics are POWERFUL. Waiting for my husband to come and get me.....
As far as songwriting goes, they were ahead of their time.
76 or 77...my freshman or sophomore year...❤
I'd suggest "Godzilla". Reaper was definitely a hit, but Godzilla was probably equal in airplay.
Time has done nothing to lessen the impact of this song.
"Don't Fear The Reaper"
All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain
We can be like they are
Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper)
Baby, take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)
Baby, I'm your man
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity (Romeo and Juliet)
40, 000 men and women everyday (like Romeo and Juliet)
40, 000 men and women everyday (redefine happiness)
Another 40, 000 coming everyday (we can be like they are)
Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper)
Baby, take my hand (don't fear the reaper)
We'll be able to fly (don't fear the reaper)
Baby, I'm your man
La, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la
Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew and then disappeared
The curtains flew and then he appeared
Saying don't be afraid
Come on, baby (and she had no fear)
And she ran to him (then they started to fly)
They looked backward and said goodbye (she had become like they are)
She had taken his hand (she had become like they are)
Come on, baby (don't fear the reaper)

I like your review to a great band. the 70s had some of the best music ever made, glad you found this one.
Awesome reaction. "Burnin' For You," is a great song by BOC; it's a little more radio friendly, but still comes in just after this as their best song.
“MORE COWBELL”! 😉 Great tune. Have you done “Burnin’ For You” by them yet?
One of album rock's all time classic guitar riffs. An FM staple.
SNL did a skit about this song called "more cowbell please".
More cowbell!
Awesome!!! Its a great hit off of their biggest album Agents of Fortune. Not a bad song on it.
Just discovered you today. Don't Fear the Reaper was my favorite song growing up. Love it just as much today. Thanks for not stopping the songs in the middle to react like a lot of other reviewers do.

A big hit and played for years on FM radio stations in the New York area. Band members were college students of a Long Island, NY university.
Now that you've heard the song, you will definitely enjoy the Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch starring Will Farrell that features the song and lightly pokes fun at it, "More Cowbell."
There is a great SNL skit on this song, with Christopher Walkin and Will Ferrell. I need more cow bell.
This album is worth a full listening.
Absolutely stellar from start to finish.
Try the live version of "The Last Days Of May".
I've seen them live years ago and they were very good.
Finally, someone who let's the magic play....
I don't think they perfected this song yet. It needs more Cow Bell! Lol
If anyone is listening to BOC for the first time here are three more great song samples: 1) Debbie Denise (About a cat) 2) Burnin' for You
3) Shooting Shark (Look for the 7 min. long version). Enjoy!
"Just Get An Electric Guitar, And Take Some Time To Learn How To Play"- The Byrds... had the right idea.
get flashbacks to sitting in a room with black lite posters.

One of the best and most memorable opening riffs.
Within 2 notes you know BOC.
The full uncut version is pure exquisite musicianship.
Yes I seem to remember hearing this as a kid in London and only the cut version was played on radio. Didn't know about this version until much later.
The fire is not in hell. It's in this song!🔥🔥🔥
Hey JM. You are the coolest guy on RUclips
Still one of my favorite songs because that lick runs through the song nearly the entire time it only has two breaks. That's so impressive. And the vocals are beautiful
We wouldn't steer you wrong! Got to do Burnin' For You and Godzilla soon. :)
Great song 👍☮️
Great one!
COWBELL!

Great run on b.o.c. songs.
Cool guitar solo.
the lyrics to the last verse are awe inspiring-it almost makes you believe...
Il fait vraiment plaisir à voir et à entendre ce gars. Il aime le rock mélodique et joué par des blancs.
C'est génial 👍
❤❤always loved this song !! Crazy good !! That solo and outro is so good !!
Check out their song Take Me Away, it’s about alien abduction, but it’s really good😊
Some ear Candy listening with headphones
Great band, love this song
This song always sounded like a moody Blues song.
Just the right amount of cowbell.
I some how owned Four Blue oyster cult albums
This and Godzilla were BOC`s biggest hits, Black Blade is another really good one from BOC,
Time for Halloween. How about a real scary song? D.O.A. by Bloodrock?
Shout-out for referencing Blood rock! Saw them live in '71 in Dallas.
More cowbells
Check out E.T.I. from the same album.
Buck Dharma (Donald Roeser) wrote, sings , and plays lead guitar on this all-time classic rocker about teenage suicide.
I don't think it's about suicide.
Not about suicide, teenage or otherwise.
More cowbell!!!!
Harvest Moon. ...One of BOC's sleeper hits
COWBELL !!!
❤
As a kid, I never really listened to the words. Just like the tune. Now I think it’s a bit morbid.
It's exactly the opposite of morbid.
@@rollomaughfling380you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about.

Yay ❤😊
Gene really explored the space, didn't he?
More cow bell!
