The song is about a man and woman who are in love and facing their deaths. The man is dying and telling the woman to hold his hand because he is "her man" and that their love is eternal. He tells her to not fear death ( the reaper) as Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity, and 40,000 men and women join them every day. Near the end of the song, the man appears to her (this time in spirit) and again tells her to take his hand. She had no fear, dies and joins him in eternity. The "two now one" is their love which in their physical lives seemed to be only about the two of them transcending death and appearing again as spiritual, eternal.
I dont agree with the "two now one" part. I think that its they used to be two, now he is dead and she is left behind. The sadness is too much for her and takes his spirits "advice" and runs to him, and now they are together in eternity.
no you see after WWII the white bread world of 50s leave it to beaver was over because of armies of migrants. another 40,000 every day till the population quadrupled. that's what this song is about. don't fear that stuff because the world wasn't destroyed it was transformed and the loosers mostly just folded in. the reaper went around cutting open money bags but very few people. it is a euphemism for how lots of rich people get poor so someone else can trade them in for as many sorta richer than they were people as it costs to get it done

That song was dressing in an indirect way "the elephant in the room" suicide. Not just death that comes to us all eventually. This the repeated reference to Romeo and Juliet. Unfortunately even today suicide is a subject that we are loathe to address. But is important that we do. Especially with Cov19 issues. Depression and suicide rates among children and teens has skyrocketed and has become a pandemic of its own.
