    Great tool with many applications, especially those pesky string through holes. These are the type of tools that us guitar guys sometimes overlook that the other woodworkers embrace. Good work as usual!

    I have one similar to this - except with mine you clamp the whole drill into the top, and use the chuck already in the drill. It is good for simple jobs, and can be lifted horizontal to use in doors etc. The only problem I have is when wishing to drill into uneven surfaces such as a carved guitar top. I guess there is always a solution to be found!

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  3 года назад +1

      Ya, for that you would probably want to either use a drill press or find a way to suspend this over top of the guitar.

      I recently bought both tools. I’ll be testing them out for installing 10 threaded inserts and accompanying bolts. I’m thinking one big positive for the Milescraft is you can clamp it down, so holes are perfectly centered and aligned if running different operations. For example, pilot hole, then forstner bit, through hole, etc. Switch out the bits, set your depth stop with a digital caliper or better yet pre-made spacers if running same operations for multiple holes. Should all bore dead center and to proper depth.

      You may have to remove the spring to allow it to compress that far, but if you do that I think you might be ok. At least you would get most of the way through and the holes would act as a guide to finish off.

    Another interesting vid, I feel more comfortable drilling into my kits now. Side question: how does Nitro warm/age a paint job compared to other lacquers or is that a myth?

    • @onpsxmember
      @onpsxmember 3 года назад +1

      Nitrocellulose finishes age cause they aren't UV-resistant. It cracks, white yellows and some get darker too. Softer colours may appear warmer. That's how that ice-tea tone of certain LP's is created, that's why Angus' SGs look black and not red anymore. The magic is in the fingers. That's just my 2 cents.

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  3 года назад

      Ya, nitro will age, yellow, crack, etc. It is affected by uv light and changes in temperature.

Im interested in durability and beauty with minimal wear on the fretboard. An ask here if you don't mind.
    I got myself this thing, the Milescraft one. She could be a skookum choocher because the construction and materials are relatively robust. However, the bit on the top what is intended to be put in the drill chuck seems to be bent at the root, as witnessed by my drill with a nicely centered chuck causing the whole rack thing to weeble-wobble and shake around with each turn.
    I'd like to straighten that thing out. How should I approach the problem?

    • @BradAngove
      @BradAngove  3 года назад +1

      Yikes; that’s a tough one. I would suggest returning it for another. I’m concerned that the bearings may encounter issues if you need to straighten it right back down at the root.
      With that said, a vice comes to mine as the likely option. Perhaps you can mostly crush it straight.
