  • It's Tally Bally Here! My 1st ride and review of the New Triumph Street Twin 900!
    I had to wait to be able to post this on here as the launch isn't until Thursday night (the 11th Feb), but here it is!
    Hope you all enjoy. I do waffle rather, but I hope that I have covered the most salient points...
    Apologies for the wind noise in the walkaround section. I have tried to stifle it with technology but it's still there. One byproduct of this is that that section of the video is a bit quieter, so be careful if you wear earphones after this section! :-)
    Feel free to ask further questions in the comments below.
    It's a very exciting time for Triumph fans with the new Bonneville range and the Speedy and the Tigers...
    All that is left for me to say is:
    TALLY BALLY HO!
    And of course, many many thanks to Thomas and the team at Herts Triumph for allowing me to play with this bike and others! I am really honoured and happy to be able to do this!
    Ta ta! Pip pip!

      +motorslyclist Thank you! These do get rather long when I'm trying to give all the info I can but it's so much fun too! Not the bike for me, but still excellent fun nonetheless... I've got my eyes set straight on the Thruxton R, but I have to wait until April to try one of those out! :-(
      Thanks for watching!

    Thanks for the review! It helped alot. I've been looking at the 2017 for months and found a leftover at a great price due to the age. I'm buying it today and will be upgrading the front brakes and shocks based on your review. Muchas Gracias! Safe riding my friend.

    Nice review. And o liked that it you added a lot of humour and fun to it with your reaction to the bike. It wasn't OTT as you replied to some previous comment but quite natural and made the review that much more likeable. Searching for the T120 review of yours.

    Awesome, you've caught my attention, changed my mind, thrown a spanner in the works and made me want one, lol. My first bike was and is a cruiser, but now after this review I'm doubting my cruising loyalty.
    I don't really know why I'm currently in such a dilemma, haven't done my das yet, still riding off the cbt. I'm too busy dreaming and watching RUclips when I should be busy booking my test.
    Great review fella, love it✊

      +Neil Cole (Smoothound675) I am still loving my Tiger, but if the 1200s are anything to go by in comparison to the improvement on the old 865s this 900 is, then I'll be swapping my Tiger for the new Thruxton R: It has everything that I wanted on my old Thruxton but already done for me, WITH the extra performance! Not that I'm at all excited you understand! ;-)
      Thanks for watching and commenting!

    To counter some of the comments from those stuck in an unhappy life, I just had to say, Well done! There are 2 reasons to watch your review videos: your thoroughness and your personality. Funny story. My wife was walking past me while I was watching this video. Upon hearing your voice and laugh, she stopped and asked, "What on earth are you watching?" I said, "A video from this guy who does lots of great Triumph reviews. He goes by the name Captain Rambunctious." To which she said, "Of course he does!"

    I saw one of these sitting beside a previous model year bonny and it's amazing how the changes make the Triumph look much more finished. The clutch is ridiculously light despite being cable operated clutch as you said.

    Awesome review good Sir!
    I've sat on the ST, the T120 and the Thruxton R at our annual motorcycle show a few weeks ago. I know what you mean by the small feel of the ST...I'm about your build. Coming right off my 2013 T100, where my legs are normally at 100 degree bend, on the T120 they felt at about 90 degree bend...much more relaxed. The Thruxton R is getting all the excitement at the shows...can't wait for your review on that beast...not sure I'm ready for such a thing with my 1st year riding anniversary still two months away!
    P.S.: You must have a word with your continuity checker...when you first got on the bike & drove away, we clearly saw your Knox back protector showing through your Raven leather...but then you had your back pack on rest of the ride ;-)

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 лет назад

      +TornadoCAN99 Ah yes! Continuity! I thought I'd see if anyone would notice my nod to the American Film Industry! ;-) After all, it's coming up to awards season...
      Agree with you on the legroom... I really can not wait until April to try the Thruxton! I may have to break in to the Triumph factory at this rate!
      Thank you for you initial kind words and thank you for watching! I hope that you found this valuable...
      Tally Bally Ho!

    Great review. I was watching this at work on nightshift and a mate asked about it, now he's hooked on the Captain too. I'm torn between this and the T120. The lower price makes this great value but the extra power of the T120 is calling me as well. That selfie stick footage made this bike look tiny AF. Anyhoo, keep up the good work.

      Yes, the wide angle on the lense of the camera does make the bike look slightly smaller, but if I reduced the angle then you wouldn't get so much in... :-)

    Everything you described, how light the bike feels, nimble, zippy, and small is exactly how it feels when I jump on my wife's Bonneville. I say Triumph is having a hard time making a bad one nowadays ;-)

    so I've been debating between this, the ducati scrambler and the yahama sr400. your joy in riding this bike has definitely leaned me in the direction of the triumph. well that, the seat height, the abs and the traction control.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 лет назад

      Ha ha! I see! Well, the Ducati is meant to have more power, but delivers it differently... I would always advise riding them first. Especially as I haven't ridden the Ducati Scrambler and so can't give an honest and fair comparison.. But yes, this is a very fun and easy bike to ride... :-)

      McNultron You might be a bit too tall... The bench seats are higher, but do test ride it and see. You might want to wait until the T120 comes out, that should have more legroom...

    Good to see an unbiased report and genuinely excited (or deserve an Oscar), been a lot of negativity about this bike but I suspect Triumph got it right (again), probably too small for me but hoping the Thrux R meets expectations in same way.

    Except for my VMAX, the bikes I've had have always had twin gauges, but I do like the way that one looks as well. My 2005 t100, doesn't have any electronics like the newer bikes but I don't mind at all. It's funny how slight changes make the same bike different. Street twin, speed twin, Bonneville. Change a few little changes but all unique.
    But yes the 1200 is a different animal than the 900. Six speeds, 300 more CC s and about 20 more HP. And a center stand.
    Thanks Cap Rambunctious. Your enthusiasm is always appreciated.

      However, a word of warning. AT the time of making of this review, the street scrambler did not exist. So I was comparing it to the older air cooled 865cc scrambler. If you'd like a comparison with the new street scrambler, see that review that I have done, but I must say that the street scrambler is a lot better than the street twin in my opinion. More fun to ride and feels lighter and is taller so suits my frame better...

    This review is a bit more Rambunctious "over the top" effusiveness than I would express, but when I rode a sample in Ft Worth it is all accurate. I wish I had an excuse to buy this. It is one happy, easy machine. Blandness comes because it is meant to please many different audiences. Most Triumph enthusiasts customize anyway, so the "bland" is almost moot. REALLY a thoroughly pleasant and fun machine that any motorcyclist can get on and ride well immediately. Not much to "get used to". Good Video, Captain!

    I think Triumph went to a 270 degree crank to emulate the sound of a V twin engine. I have heard a few newer Triumphs and the sound is sexy!

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  6 лет назад +1

      That's the one! The old air cooled scrambler was the only 270 degree crank and the bonnies were 360... with a smoother sound. But people loved the thump of the 270 so all the new ones are 270 to get that slightly artificial sound... I love it...

    For me seat height was too low ( I'm only 5'8") and pegs too far back . I have a steel leg with only 90 deg movement .

    Hey there Captain! I live in the states, and I'm wondering what you would choose. I love the new Street Twin, on paper, unfortunately they are extremely difficult to get hands on here. Since you ride the Thruxton and have test ridden the Twin, which bike would be better? I currently own a Harley Sportster, and I hate it. I don't plan on touring, and my commute is about 45 minutes or so. Mixed driving, of highway and city.

    • @CaptainRambunctious
      @CaptainRambunctious  8 лет назад

      Oh, the Thruxton is much better bike in ever respect other than comfort... And you can easily live with the position for 45 minutes! I do for up to 4 hours quite happily... But there is a big difference in price and it is up to you to decide whether that price is justified...
      Sorry I couldn't be of more help... But I chose the Thruxton R over the Speed Triple after all! ;-)
