Yes, with Depth Map you can also achieve this result It is just that I am feeling more comfortable with Magic mask and I didn't have too many elements in my foreground or background that could disturb my mask :)
Hello ! Another Frenchie here :D je t'ai connue via FCM et je voulais juste te dire qu'en dehors du super contenu en lui même, j'adore la créativité de tes intros ! Le Magic mask m'a sauvée à quelques reprises sur des projets clients !
@@frenchiecolorgrading At least once a week. I've already picked a breed and a place in the Galician mountains where I will move and start my goat farm.
Good to see the tool also getting used by actual colorists. Sometimes i feel like I am cheating or faking it if i use a tool like this. Did you also try the depth map? Sometimes it can also work really well. I see that you adjusted exposure (and some other settings) in Dehancer. What was the thought behind doing it there and not in an "offset" or "balance" node?
The real reason is this one : I was checking what was the effect of exposure in dehancer because when I graded this commercial, I just got the plugin. I forgot to put it back to 0 🙃 ahah I then made the whole commercial with this setting
@@frenchiecolorgrading thanks for the honest answer 😁 It's hard not to try and play with the sliders etc in Dehancer but it mostly becomes a problem when applying the same dehancer settings to other scenes ☺️ Watching some of your other videos. They are great and i learn a lot as a novice 👍 thanks (Cullens videos are way to long before they get to the point 😏)
Great tutorial, I was also grading an Apple commercial and in one of the client's notes, I had to make the Apple watch look more desaturated. The magic mask saved my ass as well haha. Is there a reason as to why you've set your timeline color space to rec709 instead of Davinci wide gammut?
Ahahah, lucky we have this tool as the wild card to pull when it's the last resort ! I was in a Rec709 colorspace mostly because I made my creative lut based on a rec709 representation of the Arri :)
Thank you ! Yes, I think I do sometimes ahah I lived in Malaysia for 4 years so I might have picked up some Malaysian-Singaporean accent along the way ahah
I love magic mask but in 18.6 it is tracking really well but the end result is not showing up for me. I don't get it! I think it might be a render cache bug again. Anyone else seeing this?
@@frenchiecolorgrading I tried deleting all render cache within resolve. It didn't work. What is really funny is photoshop gave me a scratch disk low error yesterday on the same drive. I opened my resolve cache folder and it was HUGE!! I deleted the whole thing. I think it was 250ish GB Now everything is working great.
Hdr wheels works well in my Rec709 space. I didn’t have to do a lot with my hdr wheels, just reducing the light. For heavier modifications I would surely go to another colorspace
I dislike using qualifiers in general. I suck at it and tend to get horrible result😂 tho i am using it more now so i can at least get good at pulling them
Thank you for the compliment ahah I also think it depends on the camera, Arriraw is a gold mine of information, therefore magic mask is really easy on these footage.
if it was a look for a movie then the original may be more adapted, but it would depend on the mood of the movie. In this video she’s grading for a commercial so the masked one is way better for that purpose.
What the fuck. They should have a story board , moodboard when they shoot the clip no? How are they deciding AFTER THE SHOOTING THAT YOUR JOB IS TO CORRECT SOMETHING THAT THEY FUCKED UP.
It was done. I want to specifiy that the intro is an exaggeration of what happened just for the joke. Everything was decided in preproduction. You maybe didn’t realise it because I take a close up in the tutorial, but the whole art on set was grey and white walls. We had water on set, so also the color of the reflection of the water on the walls can’t be helped. They could have done it in front of a green screen, it would be easier, but the result would be way less natural. Second point : Arri has also a particular gamma interpretation of the log curve, it always tend towards warmish in my opinion. It was then impossible out of the camera to make a world B&W and have the talent untouched.
What is the point of making these videos? Just disabling and then switching on nodes? SHOW US HOW YOU DID FIND GHE SETTING OF THE NODES. How do we learn something when you do not show the process?!
Hi,the point of the video is actually the effect of magic mask on the grade. I do explain my process in each node, if the information is a bit confusing on what I am saying then I advice you to check out my playlist Beginner Tips where you’ll get all the basics covered.

Just found you channel, your humor saved my ass and job, thank you !!!

Thank you very much ! I am glad my humor saved your bum ahah
Good to see some use of the magic mask. I also really like the little scene at the beginning when thinking about moving to the hills with two goats.
Glad you liked it! Ahahha
The production value is through the roof ahah
I guess at least you can claim it is colour corrected by a professional :-)
I enjoyed the "humor" part of it 😂
Ha Goats FTW!! Great video Frenchie 😊
Thank you for dropping by Alex ! ☺️
You have such a hilarious way of telling a story - We all need our own Patate on those troublesome projects.
Yes, Patate is my saving grace ahah
I think you need to do more funny bits you’re hilarious
reminds me of rotoscoping in after effects - this is a great solution!!
Loved it amazing content first time here and staying back
Welcome aboard! Thank you for your comment ! :)
I love this.
The fact that you walk BACKWARDS as you walk back into the office is the deepest comedy 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ahahahha, I love that you noticed it 😂
You are amazing, great job! One day I will have the studio version of Davinci
Thanks ! I recommend to switch to Davinci Resolve studio, it’s an only one time payment :)
Kudos to you!. Amazing work, and I love how it turned out.
