Great interview, I love Cabel's energy and frankness when talking about the playdate, you can really tell how excited he is about the project. I couldn't be more excited to get a playdate (I'm group 2, so I've got a bit of a wait still) and conversations like this and the great reviews make me even more confident this device will be amazing. I need to make time to delve into pulp/SDK to hold me over...
Wonderful interview - I had fun listening to it. That was a great point about the price that I didn't think about where other consoles are typically more of a loss leader and recoup their costs through games and how the Playdate is priced without that system in place.
What I don't see people discussing with price is the breakdown. Simple division puts the 180 at about 7.50 a game, not counting the hardware. So for 15 bucks a week you get two new game experiences. Also include the value of the free SDK, and the joy of fumbling around with that.
I am so bummed out that I wasn't in a position to pre order the Playdate when it was announced hopefully I will be able to pick one up in 2023 or when there available for pre order again. Great interview I can't wait to get one.
This was a pleasurable interview. This is 2024, I'm stuck between spending $200 on both devices that Teenage Engineering has built; the Panic PlayDate or the rabbit R1. Hard choices given a tight budget
Of course that is the guy who made playdate lol love it. Exited to get mine
