When I served in the Navy from 76 - 82, these ships were dreams in naval architects minds. Ronald Reagan wanted them in his Rapid Deployment Tool Box. He never saw them get commissioned. He would be thrilled to sit in one.

Uh hello IDIOT the Rapid Deployment Force was a brainchild of President Jimmy Carter. reagan merely added a few other LESS capable vessels. No advanced Landing Craft or CH53D heavy lift helicopter, Support for LCU 2000 series Landing Craft was NON Existent. As a you are obviously ignorant if JOINT LOGISTICS OVER THE SEA TACTICS TECHNIQUES PROCEDURES. I am used to your response. Comments. reagan did absolutely nothing for the Jones Act merchant marine. Desert Storm proved his Defense Buildupwad a Sham and a Farce to ENRICH DEFENSE CONTRACTORS.

I knew a bloke in the Italian Navy, he served his period expecting to sail the seas, ended up shuttling between mainland and some islands bringing water to these places.
In the end he enjoyed it.

Given that these logistics ships look remarkably like the failed Litoral Combat ships that are currently being taken out of USN service, wouldn't it make sense to refit those LCS's into the same sort of logistics vessels documented here? For gawd's sake, please DON'T sell the retiring LCS's to Canada, my country. The Canadian Government would cook their books to make it look like we're spending 2% of our GNP on Defense, when, believe me, they have absolutely no intention of honouring that NATO Member requirement. The reason for our perpetual state of military penury can be summed up in one word: Quebec.

That's not bare steel. It's aluminum, and therefore less susceptible to corrosion with exposure to seawater.
Although I wish they would have at least sandblasted the hulls in order to create a more uniform appearance (as Austal did for the LCS 2 class ships which were being produced at the same shipyard). I've always felt that with every weld seam being visible, the ship looks like something that came out of Dr. Frankenstein's laboratory.

The Army Should reactivate a few units in order to fulfill this role, 8th ID ,172nd and the 24th ID, 21st Expeditionary Corps a complementary Corps to the 18th Airborne Corps, just a thought, feedback?

It has high hopes but as Gaza and the floating pier proved out. It's outdated and dangerous to the individuals working it. I noticed that the crews flew home while their boats took a charter home from Rota Spain. One flatbottom trip was enough

There must be lots of politicians and admirals and retire admirals who got rich from this deal. Made of aluminum to save weight and we know how easily these will burn when hit. They better be well protected because I can see lots of burned sailors and Marines if we go to war with these.
