Remember when you could get a case of 7.62x39 for 80 bucks, and cheap aks for less than 300? and it was a way for non-rich people to prep, but the feds priced those people out of survivability? Ruby Ridge farms remembers.
I saw an old Shotgun News with an advertisement of Norinco 7.62X39 at $64.99 per 1200 rounds. That comes out to $1.08 per box of 20. I should have bought more. All is not lost though, I bought a milled MAK-90 for $225 and a Chinese SKS for $75.
@chrisfarr6955 If I may ask, what kind of AK did you get? Like what country of origin was it from? And I'm assuming it was just a standard AKM stamped receiver w/ the classic wood handguard/stock/etcetera?
@chrisfarr6955 just doing a 2nd reply/comment to make sure I tagged your username since idk if the 1st message did or not. I also just wanted to say that I was curious about what was available in '87 as the reason I asked what kind it was.
For the budget-minded guys, NCSTAR has a $30 AK chest rig that runs 6 mags great, it's very similar to the pattern 84. I've beat one to shit in airsoft, real shooting classes, and full kit ruck marches. Still holds up. I also run a belt kit with Condor double AK pouches, I love them because they'll fit two 7.62x39 AK mags or three 5.56 AR mags each. They're my go-to AK pouches. G-Code Scorpion and HSGI are good options too for faster, lower-profile mag pouches.
1:40 I’m with you there. I’ve always trained with M4/M16’s, 240 bravo’s and 249 saw’s. I never trained with AK’s until after I got out of the marine corps. I held an AK at a Palmetto State Armory’s store in Columbia, SC and loved how it felt so I had to get me one. I was completely surprised on how simple it was to disassemble compared to the AR platform. A little different manual of arms but I got used to it quick and now I use mine as my combat rifle if shit hits the fan.
Quick and easy way to carry Ak mags is get yourself a canvas AK chest pouch- the kind you see all the Arabs wear. It will do untill you develop your permanent AK rig. Edit I use plastic snap on buckles to get them on and off fast instead of having to tie the strings every time.
Type 81 (boo Canada) guy here and my go to chest rig is my HCO modded Pattern 83 that has MOLLE on the sides and can take a modern harness and dangler pouches. I also like the smersh and I have a MOLLE smersh with 2x double taco type pouches on the left side for easier reloads. I also like the Shaw placard with their AK insert for use on a plate carrier or as a way to plus up on supplies with the smersh. Cool to see that you came to the same general conclusion as me.
After doing the chest rig throughout my Army career and for years after, I have converted to belt rig LBE supremacy. Its amazing how much better everything sits- provided you arent getting in and out of cars.
When you’re re-inserting your mags on your chest rig, it’s much easier to shove the mag in behind the mag sitting in the pouch, you don’t have to worry about anything catching on fabric, it’ll just slide against the backside of the other mag into place.
You should take a look at the Finnish company Savotta. They make equipment for the Finnish Defence Force which use RK-62, a Finnish version of AK, so they have some good and sturdy pouches that offer excellent NIR performance.
The Chinese type 81 chest rig is a good option for carrying on a budget, they're like $25 on Amazon, RTG, and apex(I think) Though they come only in green black and khaki they do make a good starter rig for AK47 mags Otherwise though great video! The AK market is having a hard time now with the current situation in Europe... Hopefully more American companies step up and fullfil this niche
Front panel 3x single mag with bungee + 1 single open top on weak side for speed reload, left and right on the sides 2x double fully enclosed pouches + 2 single open top left and right on the battle belt + 1 in the rifle = 11 in total or 330 rds stored in AK PMag Gen 3s
So I switch a lot between 556/545, 762x39 and 762x51. What I do for ALL my loadouts (pc and chestrigs), is use pouches that are intended for G36 mags or HK417 mags. I use the Tasmanian Tiger Dbl mag pouches, they fit all 3 without issues. I bought a bunch of Spiritus SPUD pouches, but they be taking some time to get where I live. All my loadouts are 8 mags minimum, without belt. And I added the vertical side pull mag pouches to my plate carriers for some extras. Literally takes no space and doesn't hinder usage of backpacks. I been running my kits exactly the same since serving, from Afghanistan, Africa, Guyana to Ukraine. For anti-poaching I prefer a chestrig. I can also 1000000% confirm that the Haley Strategic SRMP pouch takes 556/545, 762x39 and 762x51 mags without issues. Ow and people, don't be afraid to repurpose your pouches for other things, like some smoke pouches can easily fit mags in too or a Nalgene too. If you don't have spicy baseballs, no point in having pouches for them on your rigs.
I’ve found it better when reinserting mags into pouches with the velcro like you commando store rig, is to insert the mag you’re putting back in behind the mag in the pouch. Push that one forward it holds the front of the pouch out giving you something solid to slide your mag back into the pouch.
As an x39 ak guy since 2004, ive gone through alot of pouches and gear configurations. Just recently picked up the APTUM Micro placard/chest rig from Beez Combat Systems. Its rapidly becoming my favorite setup for x39 mags on a plate carrier. That combined with its ability to be run as a stabdalone micro rig is a nice feature. I keep a taco for a ranger reload on the belt and a Legion double ak mag pouch right behind it. That gets me up to the minimum 7 mags. I highly suggest the APTUM.
If you´re searching for good Ak magazine pouches, I can recommend the small utility surples-pouches from the Dutch army. I don´t know how available they are in America, but Europe has a shit ton of these and you can buy them for 3.90 EUR. They perfectly fit two 7,62 AK-magazines, better in fact than any dedicated Ak mag pouch I had.
I run an ALICE rig with Czech mag pouches given how hard it is to find Ruskie gear these days. Also with a bunch of stuff from taobao I also managed to import a few Ghanan ALICE mag pouches which look like they might fit AK mags.
If you have been running aks for any amount of time and have been in the ak world you kno who tango tactical is. He makes some amazing rigs/ plate carriers. I love mine and that's what I run
You are right I run 3 in my plate carrier 2 on my battlebelt and 1 in the rifle. But can always throw extras in my dump pouch if I feel the need. But most days we run drills we are running 6 mags total.
Personally, I use a 6b45 with sapi plates and a smersh, if training for a more urban environment i put my handgun holster and mags on my chest. love the modern smersh, wish i could try an old gen.
Gotta say thanks for recommending the Pattern 84, was able to go from 3 chest rigs to running a single chest rig for all my guns and it’s helped tremendously with training. I was always flubbing my reloads as I would get into the muscle memory of other rigs with other style pouches and it would always bug the hell out of me. Now I’m getting consistent results with this rig and I save a little bit of extra room in the gear bag by not having 3 rigs lmao. I also added 2 ATS Upright GP pouches that can fit a 32 OZ Nalgene which is pretty sweet, and with the Nalgene I shoved a mini sawyer filter into the GP pouch where you’re running your water. Also got a Haley Hanger with the medical insert so I feel honestly pretty great sustainment wise. All I need now is to pick up a Ferro Slickster, no idea what plates will fit it though. Any suggestions?
Still like my BDS tactical v-ops rig, bought it when i got my first kalash. Can be bought customized to preference. Got a big grenade pouch on my right, saw box pouch on the left, 8 mag rack, admin pock and giant storage on the back of panel. Nice rig all in all. Thanks for the vid and info.
Got a good Army friend who runs AK and does milsim with you. We were talking mag. pouches, etc. and he told me that MilSim made him carry more mags. (more than our standard 210rds.). He's an AK guy now too
Great video 👍 it's kinda crazy how .300 blackout almost the same size round just a bit smaller casing fits perfectly in AR mags. Then my chunky 7.62x39 need more bend and width in a magazine (More cow bell). Still I'm a .30cal midrange rifle fan over small and faster rounds.
Arktis m170 is also a good option. Can carry 6 ak mags comfortably with two pretty good gp pouches. Not modular but very well thought out and very rugged-1000D cordura and IR compliant.
if you wanna put a holster on your smersh i recomend the bianchi M12 holster, it's not as fancy as more modern alternative but it does the job and is easy to attach to the rig
@@BlueJeanOperator i used a smersh for all my milsim loadout playing on the russian side, and i indeed recomend them for a good weight ballence, i personnaly put two 2Xmags pouch on my left side and on my right side i have one big GP pouch plus either my holster for a secondary or a 2 mag pouch for RPK 40rds mags depending on what combat role i have, for more insurgent type of more lightweight loadout i only swear by the allmighty 4 slot chicom.
I've used a taps or a type 81 rig over my armor, in conjunction with a rpk gunners bag/or a water resistant 4 cell shoulder slung mag bag; since 2008 or so.
Glad see u on administrative results channel while back so I could subscribe. Keep up the content brother. I use high-speed gear pouches 3 on my plate carrier 2 on my belt 1 in the ak so it's only 6 mags 180 rounds but I like high-speed gear pouches it allows me to run 762x39 545x39 556 ak mags and m4 and fits my kp9 mags good.and if I need to could throw a couple backup mags in my trex arms dump pouch
I use a Warrior Dcs plate carrier, with Srvv fast mag pouches, or a Warrior Gladiator chest-rig, or some kind of molle chest-rig rig with Srvv double mag pouches. Srvv mag pouches are great for the AK mags.
I don't really know much about gear and I may just be an airsofter, but I always love looking at this type of stuff. The gear/kit aspect is always way more interesting to me than the gun tech and whats "good" or "bad". Probably gonna go with a Smersh rig, as it fits with the loadout I'm trying to go for. Great video :)
The Tasmanian tiger MKii is in my opinion the best chest rig. It can hold 8 ak mags as well as side pockets for water bottles and a flip up admin pouch. You can even hold plates behind it. Just don’t get the MKii m4 variant
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the MK2. It just doesn’t hold 7.62 mags as well as the P84. If this was a video on 5.45 mags, it would take the top spot. It really deserved a honorable mention 😞
Mosin Nagant kits: "One man carry rifle, the other man carries the stripper clip of ammo! If man with rifle dies, man with clip picks up the rifle. If man with clip dies, man with rifle picks up the clip!" *Russian Logistics Approved*
I would also recommend UW Gear but his shop has been closed for a good while. They make great stuff, however most of the AK rigs only hold 4 magazines but still great quality.
Bluejean your my go-to guy for AK content. I'm a silly goose running a 6094 w/ belt setup total of 6 spare mags...While looking for the ambition to run around with the M70.
First off I always use the 60round quad stack mags for ak platform since theyre the same length as standard double stack 30rounders accept for thicker. It saves alot of weight because your cutting down on alot of magazine material and it cuts your reloads in half and because the weights better consolidated and distributed its more manuverable and feels lighter than having a bunch of 30round mags. 210rounds is a pitiful excuse for a combat load you'll go through twice that in a shootout against well trained and armed opponents easily. If I carry 6 60round quads plus one in a quick reload belt pouch and one in the gun I have the equivalent to 16 30round mag. Thats 480rounds on my person easily accessible. Thats minimum. Really I could add 2 or 3 more around the waist if need be. I rock a frt with a suppresor so I can be a rifleman or a temporary light machine gunner thanks to my quad stacks high capacity. I also might carry 1 or 2 mags of subsonic rounds to if I may need to be sneaky since the 762x39 subs are ballistically the same as 300 blackout subs and have the same ammount or more power than 300blk subs. The quad stack mags are really reliable theyve been around for a decade to. Like you get drum mag capacities in a magazine that's as small as a standard doublestack 30rounder. It's a game changer. Most aks can run them to unlike alot of ar15 quad mags which require a custom mag well.
To answer your question, im actually using the Condor 7 pocket chest rig. Its not super clean and its not "high speed" but it gets the job done. May stitch it up to fit better. Put some velcro on the pouches or something
I haven't run an ak in awhile but I found the haley d3cr with two taco belt pouches felt fairly intuitive. Both geld the mags nice and deep and could roll ar mags just the same
I have the want for an ak 74 and i have mags for one and all my kit fits them, now and i do have experience with aks both 47/74 I prefer the 545x39 over 7.62x39. Solly for ammo weight.
maybe you have notices, main caliber of russians is now not 7,62x39 but 5,45x39 we are almost 50 years from developing of AK74 ;-) and...such heavy and large load around your hips is almost disabling your ability to work laying on ground, and changing position successfully and fast.... maybe it is fine and cool for YT videos or shooting range fun, but not for fight
Currently im running a parashooter gear volk4 with enamel pie molle side adapter wings with a lunar concepts hx harness and spiritus mk3 dangler. Med utility pouch and mutant pouch
Para Shooter gear, type 56 & type 81 both with belt, or on the cheap the Chicom versions.... 2nd the SADF pat 83, 3rd choice Black Hawk Commando rig.... But I'd still run a belt with all of them & probably an assault pack ( depending?)
Down sides of Para shooter gear .... Usually out of stock ( at least Patterns I want) SADF Pat 83 & 84 ... A tad pricey, & Black Hawk Commando, you really can't attach anything else to it
Unrelated to the video (related partially, but still) do you think anyone is going to try and import/domestically produce 5.45x39 into the states? With PSA making the 105s and IWI making the Galil pistols in 5.45, as well as all the polish 5.45 AK kits being imported and the rumors of KUSA making a 105, do you think the demand is there for 5.45 to be manufactured domestically or internationally for the US market? 5.45 blew up in popularity in the years before the Russo-Ukraine war, and I think it'd be wild if no one capitalized on the demand.
It’s inevitable for us 74 guys. I’ve got 3 full spam cans of 7n6, but once that sht is gone….. I’m fcked and will have to go to 7.62. The sanction crap is very frustrating. I’ve heard several credible sources say that Palmetto is tooling up to produce 5.45, but that was a year or so ago and nothing more has been said. I really hope they do because 5.45 is fcking great. Peace n*gga
If i had to choose i would take a ar or something that uses all of stanag/pmags i have 556 is lighter so 7 mags of 556 is going to weight significantly less than 7 mags of 762x39. Pmags are also just smaller than ak mags
top 3 go to war kits is bare bones ak cause sights wont matter when youre sitting in a trench waiting for to get stormed or getting pounded by artillery lol

I run AR47 mags, love my plate carrier! Holds combat loads of my AR47 and also my AR9 30RND MAGS
High speed gear taco pouches have done well for me.
i have AK mag pouches on a Geuine JayJays PLCE belt kit with the patrol harness and its friggin amazing for airsoft in minecraft
I rock the SMERSH (chinese knockoff) belt system.
AK guys are bruits. AR guys are sophisticated.
Not sure how I fit in. I like them both.
I use a Rhodesian recon vest with an Eagle AK pouch....its a little bulky but it carries 6 AK mags and the rest of my stuff no problem.
You should check out the blue force gear split chest rig
Mosin Nagant kits: "One man carry rifle, the other man carries the stripper clip of ammo! If man with rifle dies, man with clip picks up the rifle. If man with clip dies, man with rifle picks up the clip!"
*Russian Logistics Approved*
I would also recommend UW Gear but his shop has been closed for a good while.
They make great stuff, however most of the AK rigs only hold 4 magazines but still great quality.
I've wanted to order from him for two years. No new orders being accepted. He may never resume production for the general, firearms public.
Awesome, also Kalashnikov rifles rule😎. Also I take the RK 62 (include RK 95 TP variant)😂
Beez Combat Systems makes the best AK mag pouches and chest rigs. Their 3-mag shingle is great.
To answer your question, im actually using the Condor 7 pocket chest rig. Its not super clean and its not "high speed" but it gets the job done. May stitch it up to fit better. Put some velcro on the pouches or something
Note, I also double stack the AK mags in this rig. Technically, I think you could fit another three mags per side GP pouch
I use Tyr Tactical Adjustebal Happy Mag for My AK 7,62 and 5,45 mags on My Tyr Tactical PICO platecarrier.
Loving the AK vids, keep it up man!
always love your videos and your experience...
Great video brother
I haven't run an ak in awhile but I found the haley d3cr with two taco belt pouches felt fairly intuitive. Both geld the mags nice and deep and could roll ar mags just the same
Matching my play book
I‘m a little bit surprised, that the Tasmanian Tiger does not have made it into the list…. 8 x 7.62 mags and high quality…
My TT doesn’t run 7.62 mags as well as the Pat 84 IMO. Love it for 5.45 though!
I have the want for an ak 74 and i have mags for one and all my kit fits them, now and i do have experience with aks both 47/74 I prefer the 545x39 over 7.62x39. Solly for ammo weight.
40 round in the gun, 3x 40 in front. 2x 30 wherever you feel comfy. 220>210. Discuss.
I like it
Agilite makes a Pincer Placard Multi-Caliber Triple Mag Pouch which will carry 7.62x39 great for re-indexing
flip the mags in the pouch around to draw and reload faster. it's just awkward to operate for a right-handed shooter the way you have them.
No side plates at least you got a ifak I think, people sleep on kneepads/elbow sucks hitting a rock on the funny bone.
maybe you have notices, main caliber of russians is now not 7,62x39 but 5,45x39
we are almost 50 years from developing of AK74 ;-)
and...such heavy and large load around your hips is almost disabling your ability to work laying on ground, and changing position successfully and fast....
maybe it is fine and cool for YT videos or shooting range fun, but not for fight
You going to do a update video on the Somogear Peq15? I really wished it would have held up man.
I'd get a Pattern 84 if it didn't only come in multicam and muticam black
Blackhawk commando rig ftw.
Currently im running a parashooter gear volk4 with enamel pie molle side adapter wings with a lunar concepts hx harness and spiritus mk3 dangler. Med utility pouch and mutant pouch
Savotta made some new AK magazine pouches recently
What about The Beez combat system AK split front chest rig?🤔
Hartford Gold reminds of these backyard brokers in The Wolf of Wallstreet. lol
Peace n*gga
I was like man that background music is familiar.
If i had to choose i would take a ar or something that uses all of stanag/pmags i have 556 is lighter so 7 mags of 556 is going to weight significantly less than 7 mags of 762x39. Pmags are also just smaller than ak mags
@angryewokadam5419 i mean i have a 556 galil ace and i dont care what you say its a ak variant, but it takes stanag and pmags
RLTW
try flipping your mags so the rounds face your left, more natural movement and you don't haver to flip the mag in your hand to load into the rifle
7 mags? I'd only carry 3. If combat was both likely, and unavoidable, then yeah maybe 5 to 7.
Love your channel, the fact that you're. And everyone gave me s*** for loving aKS Proves the merit of my sovereign logic
SOE micro chest rig and and a Rallyman pouch on the belt, and have a Rallyman subload rdy to go if i wanna grab some extra b4 i go
Blue Jean, when you re-stocking the Poison Bullet Baseball tee's? Incredibly based merch store btw thank you
top 3 go to war kits is bare bones ak cause sights wont matter when youre sitting in a trench waiting for to get stormed or getting pounded by artillery lol
