- If any of you have been following the channel for a while now, you'll know that I am a fan of the Kalashnikov platform.
I find them more interesting, fun to shoot, fun to upgrade, and I just find them aesthetically pleasing in general.
Both my AK-103 and 104 are two of my favorite 7.62x39 variants, as they represent the two military style 7.62 AKs.
The difference between these two guns is their barrel length, with the AK-103 having a 16" barrel, and the AK-104 having a 12.5" barrel.
Both of these guns are used by armed forces across the world, with the AK-103 being the most commonly produced to outfit conventional forces, while the smaller AK-104 being used by more specialized units.
The interesting thing between these two guns is how similar in performance they both are, as 7.62x39 is not affected much between 16" and 12.5".
So this begs the question, why would you go with the longer AK-103 over the 104, if the performance is essentially the same? Let's try and find out.

2,300 feet out of a 16"
How many feet per second out of a 20" ???
Mk47 is most relevant AK
Of all the weapons in the vast Soviet arsenal, nothing was more profitable than Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947, more commonly known as the AK-47, or Kalashnikov. It's the world's most popular assault rifle. A weapon all fighters love. An elegantly simple 9 pound amalgamation of forged steel and plywood. It doesn't break, jam, or overheat. It will shoot whether it's covered in mud or filled with sand. It's so easy, even a child can use it; and they do. The Soviets put the gun on a coin. Mozambique put it on their flag. Since the end of the Cold War, the Kalashnikov has become the Russian people's greatest export. After that comes vodka, caviar, and suicidal novelists. One thing is for sure, no one was lining up to buy their cars.

I literally just started doing real research into the PSA 100 series since I plan on getting my first AK. This will help me decide on which 7.62x39 variant I may get if I choose this caliber over 5.45x39.
5.45x39 is 70 cents a round now
7.62 first, then go 5.45 on your next AK because you will LOVE the first one.
Maybe the classic 16in helps with soft point and hollow tip rounds but probably not by much. Less alternative to ball with this caliber anyways AFAIK.
Use quad stacks and cut in half the ammount of magazines you have to carry while also cutting in half the time spent reload while also gaining the ability to go from rifle man to temporary light machine gunner with a binary trigger. Theyre the same length as double stack 30rounders they fit in all aks theyre reliable and they cut down the overall weight and because the overall mass is more condensed the weght distribution is better making it feel lighter with less stuff hanging off you making it more manuverable. You can caret 8 30round mags and have like 240rounds or 8 60round quads and have 480rounds on your person.
I used to have the US palm grip, but I changed it out for a hogue. You try the hogue for the AK yet? I feel it really changes the control you have with the dominant hand.
Alpha alpha, alpha alpha,.... I see what you're doing, ha!
I plan on buying an AK 104 from PSA at some point I just bought a romanian rh-10 that I plan to get pin and welded with a dead air keymo
Hard to say. AK-103 can use grenade launcher while AK-104 is more compact similar to M4 carbine for CQB.
do u own a grenade launcher
104 can use gp34 grenade launcher.
Grenade launcher is very important nowadays
5.45 ammo has almost completely dried up in America. No point in purchasing a rifle in that round if it's not available...better off going 5.56. A caliber that will always be plentiful in the US.
Yes, yes and yes!!
انا احب ak تحياتي على الشرح
Are PSA ak's any good or just range toys? I'm considering getting one and am not quite sure about them.
🍿
Que cual es mejor. ,tengo un viejo k98 y creo que en su calibre de 7mm hago unos tiros dignos de un buen tirador aquí en México no podemos tener esas armas pero las viejitas que tenemos hacen un buen papel desde hace muchos años.
Whats the handguard you have on the 104?
But when is mk18 vs 104?
I don't know why the Americans talk about Russian and its weapons, which are outdated, which didn't work, which is difficult to do, on these channels I see a lot of people talking and testing and apart from that they manufacture patents for the different variants of the AK.😂
I see that you have gotten a KUSA AK 103. I was wondering if you will be doing a longevity test of it and comparing it to your PSA AK 103. I saw on your Instagram that you only have 300 rounds through the KUSA but when asked you kinda left an open ended statement about weather your PSA was holding up or not. Thanks in advance.
Chest rig?
,👍
7.62x39 isn't as velocity dependent as 5.56 so might as well go for the shorter barrel if you're sticking to closer engagements
WOW, GOOD..!!
Loving the AK stuff man. Would love to see your take on a few practical AK and shotgun drills or courses. 👍
My first SBR was an AK-104. When I was looking into committing the time (1 year wait for stamp) and money the 104 was suggested due to the fact it uses full size parts vs. a shorter barrel system.
7.62x39 ammo can have a variation of up to +/- 60 fps so a loss of 100 fps is practically moot, the high end out of the short barrel will over lap the low end of the longer barrel. If you used match ammo with a tighter velocity spread you might see a difference, but with how similar they preform I drought you'd see much difference even in bullet drop till 600yds+
And who is using match ammo in an ak anyways
AK 104 definitely, the fact the 7.62x39 doesn't lose much of any velocity relatively makes it a great general purpose AK and very flexible for CQB
Inside 7.62x39 there are two wolves, one is an obsolete communist rip off of the STG44 round that falls out of the air, the other is actually a min-maxed round for urban combat that reliably defeats cover in medium and close ranges without excessive recoil.
Beautifully put.
I see alot of pics of Rusfor units where the entire squad is running 5.45 guns, but one or perhaps two men have a 7.62 AKMS or AK-103/104, often with a drum mag or grenade launcher. I've often wondered about the rationale for it, but I suspect that the reason has something to do with your mag dump test; that wall went from usable cover to open exposure in no time. Thanks for the vid man, keep it up.
👌🏻
From what I've heard, many Russian special forces units keep a stock of 7.62x39 on hand due to its better barrier penetration (think car windshields, walls, doors, etc.). It would make sense having a couple guys with them on hand.
@@oskar6661 He literally said something about this in his comment you're replying to.
So what I am getting from this is that my "barrel length" doesn't matter as long as the "load" I am firing is large? Sweet, thanks bro. Also, check the drum mag to see if it has an angled little piece at the top rear of the magazine where it gets inserted, my PSAK had issues running Croatian mags until I filed the little back piece down at an angle with a dremel since the squared off top of the spine was hitting one of the receiver rivets up inside the magwell.
AK Tip @1:41
When checking if your AK got one chambered, keep the safety engaged.
This way you won't have to worry to eject a round by pulling back to far (it won't ever eject) and you will see plenty enough.
Yugos eject doing that. They say it's a safe way to unload

Love the ak vids, haven’t watched through yet but I’m already excited. My guess is the length is negligible. Let’s find out!
I've been noticing from alot of guntubers that no one runs a foregrip anymore.
The Ak-104 with Zenitco b30 lower & b31 upper looks so sexy
The AK-107 is a great rifle, you should definitely do a review on it, much respect keep up the great content
I think 14"-10" is the best for a good do all. Great ballistics 14"-10 will get you well out past 300 yards and great for CQB
Come heavy or dont come all.
Akm 7.62x39.
I legit thought the EFT brainrot had finally got it's talons in me for a second. I thought I was hallucinating the raid music for a second.
I like it as background music, mostly for AK vids. Fits the vibe
@@BlueJeanOperatornot really
Gun writer Dave Fortier did enough research and studies and concluded that 12.5" for an AK is the perfect in terms of velocity gains and accuracy potential. I have AMD-65 that are SBR's and have taken classes that made me reach over to 500 and 600 yards with the 12.5" barrel length of the Hungarian AMD-65.
As someone with a ak103 I'm kinda of basis. But the gun is just perfect. Small enough to move around and still smacks the shit put of steel easily (I'm my experience) up to 500 yards. Mines a krebs ks103 based off a 107fr
Ik this is off topic but what are your thoughts on Alpenflage as a camo? Would you ever consider running the M70 field jacket for a milsim larp militia kit?
Ehh. Not me personally. Alpenflage isn’t exactly my cup of tea. Also, for MSW purposes, militia is supposed to be a Russian/Eastern Bloc irregular force, so a Swiss jacket might be a little farb for the “region”. Kind of like dudes who want to wear Rhodesian Brushstroke on militia.
With that being said, I don’t think anyone will say anything to you if you do wear it, it’s just a little goofy for the setting.
@@BlueJeanOperator ay mane I saw an alpenflage helmet cover being used in Ukraine so in my headcanon it's fine for Eastern European militia kits too )))
I think it looks dope, but it doesn't work very well in most regions.
That mag dump from the drum put a smile on my face, got to get some of those🤙🏽
I had some issus with some mags that don't want to lock in my Slovanian KA-17 (7,62 14inch ak) and I fixe it by removing a bit of metal from the locking part of the mags who won't lock correctly, maybe you can try this on your drum. By the way this magdump on the wall was awesome good video.
Smashing those blocks and going full drums ...... AK..P more more more!!!!!!!
Lobe the channel!! i have a kp104 and that lil zuca is FUN!
5:20 That impression of T Rex Arms was hilarious!
When I was choosing what length AK I would use, I assumed that at a typical combat distance (or typical local range availability) there is no significant difference in ballistics, but there is 400 grams of weight to compensate for the weight of the equipment.
I dare say the m92 10 inch barrel is the best, but i love the m92 also
I completely agree. I SBR'd my M92 with the no gunsmithing Zastava underfolder stock and it's amazing.
7.62x39mm ammo was n Was used in an SKS with a 20 inch barrel The RPK are around 21 inches to 23 inches HEAVY BARREL
would you say the sureshot chassis keeps the heat away from your meat hooks better than magpul furniture?
100%
Have you tried using the KNS adjustable gas piston? The gas on my pin and weld PSA ak is nice and softer than it was out of the factory.
I’ve shot guns with a KNS installed, but I don’t have a KNS on any of my guns. Might consider it once I start suppressing guns.
it's totally worth it! I have a small frame so even without a suppressor it's nice. Klayco47's videos on it was helpful @@BlueJeanOperator
Absolutely worth it and almost necessary if running suppressed. It’s amazing how much you can tune an AK with it, if it’s coming gassy from the factory.
Algo gods
put a kns in your rifles, these american shitboxes are even more overgased than my russian ones if such thing is even possible, as for the DTK-2 it does cut the recoil, obviously considered how ridiculous it is, but the concussion makes it annoying as fuck in interior and when shooting with group / group training, everyone will hate you for good reason and you will kick out dust in a 10km radius shit makes you hate yourself
Why even use a 7,62x39 today? I mean I see no advantages over an 5,45x39. Or do you see any, which makes it more valuable?
Shoot the trees, you will see
@@hahdanghongha7810 so you shoot trees all day?
@@foshizzlfizzl and walls too, in Vietnam, Cambodia. If you cant shoot trees and people behind them, the rifles are useless
7.62x39 is just .300blk on steroids. The perfect caliber for a short barrel.
Here in Venezuela 🇻🇪 the armed forces adopted the AK-103 assault rifle since 2006 🇷🇺
Do y’all also suck Russians off?
Assault rifles like AK nowadays are basic weapon. We also need to use bigger gun and launchers like grenade launchers, machine guns, etc.
in Vietnam we improved mostly bigger guns first, then saved AK for the last change

Hey I looked at the description for the parts list, what kind of muzzle brake is on the 104?
Its a Definitive Arms fighter brake. Been out of stock for a while now. Not really sure what’s going on with them.
@@BlueJeanOperatorah sweet man thanks! I’ve been thinking about getting a kr104, do you have or no anyone who has one? I got the 103 version and it’s pretty solid.
@@BlueJeanOperator Ever since Definitive Arms linked up with Mac from the Military arms channel they completely changed, seems like they only want to build AK parts kit for a selected few, and there parts manufacturing is almost non existent, u guess that’s what happens when you hang out with people like MAC remember the Hungarian SVD fiasco he was involved in?
Always heard 16.3" gives the best ballistic performance of 762x39 just like 20" with 223/556
It does give the best ballistic performance, but the advantage of the 7.62x39 is that even a 10-12" barrel will do 85-90% of that same performance...so if you need it shorter, you're simply not losing as much.
@@oskar6661 fair point
It's not as huge a dropoff as with 223/556

Akm + drum = fun 😊
Ak104. Bc I live in the city.
So what I find strange now is that the gas opening is so close to the end of the barrel.
Is that Chinese? Because they like to do it so much with the AKs.
Yeah PSA has some issues with their mag wells. I have one of their 104's and have issues getting mags in it. I have other 7.62 rifles that have no issues taking any of my mags, the PSA is the only one that does. With that said though the rifle has been fine and I haven't had any issues with it yet - hopefully I won't but they do have a good warranty.
In theory shouldn't .308 also be able to destroy bricks like that? If not perhaps .300 blackout?
Any chance you can do a pub with 16” vs 12” vs 8” ?
I wanna turn my m92 pap into kinda a alpha ak104 but this brace **** is interfering with that 😠
