Coch mentions people being in comment making corrections- its funny to me (a guy with NO EXPERIENCE in the field) that someone would be like "hey you, experienced seal, thats not how youre supposed to do that thing"
And from my experience usually the most opinionated and mouthy guys have the least experience they draw those opinions from. The wisest dudes around are so because they can learn from anyone.

I came specifically to comment on this - he looks annoyed at any hint of nostalgia in Coch's stories! While this duo has an amazing amount of experience to share, they also have the classic odd couple vibe.
I strongly disagreed. It’s probably because crotch wontl shut the hell up.
In 66, 67 we used cross bandoleers. Very thin and light weight material with flop over tops to carry our twenty rounds mags. We carried three hundred rounds.

Tactical Hyve (I think), Dirty Civilian and T.Rex Arms are the only two channels in this genre that do not cream themselves when they hear the words "Crye Precision". That's a good sign that someone is not an "industry" (code for: Military Industrial Complex) shill. Channels like Garand Thumb, Administrative Results etc are just recruitment tools for the Feds.
My wife bought me a small chest rig for Christmas, she figured I could use it when I camp to carry most my ‘small stuff’. I works better than she knew✌️
..packrat..I can so sympathize...still got some of my ODS kit, everything from old ALICE, various gen LBV, Arktis kit from 90's to Ranger RACK early MOLLE to 2010's kit..Army side DA/SR kit from time in 1988-2014..good content on your channel keep up the good work.
We used to unbuckle our LCE's when I was in the infantry for the same reason, because you could get several inches closer to the ground- those old triple M16 pouches were really bulky, because of where we wore them, at 2 and 10 o clock.
Same. 3 magazine widths the long way (front to rear) was 3 farther from the ground than I want to be when incoming is heading my way.
With British infantry belt kits we wore the ammo pouches back on the hips. It makes it so much easier when kneeling or getting down on your belt buckle. 🙂
@@timec2002 1980s-1990s British kit was way better than US LC-2 and the LBV/LCS-88 abortion.
I got really turned onto British kit when I was in Corps LRSC. PLCE, the DPM mesh vest, and DPM chest rig were great kit. I modified my DPM chest rig with strobe light, multitool, and Maglight pouches on the outsides of the utility pouches. Still have it, and my mesh DPM vest.
PLCE with the pouches and belt worn tight makes a nice shelf for the Bergen.
I saw Coch in Bahrain once and thought he had awesome forearm tats because the Navy just came out with the NSW CWO's and he happened to be one. First one I ever saw. So I subbed to this channel when I recognized him! However, I was born circa 86 and he's like, I started in 86 😂 Breh
This provided all the GOLDEN 'in between' info that can only be gained through ACTUAL experience in the field, beating the shit out of yourself and the gear provides. Thank you for giving me some direction as a complete noob.

I’ve used a FLC for nearly 15 years. Everyone’s seemingly moved on but it works for me
You should check out the South African defence force Pattern 83 chest rig. It holds 6x30rd AR/Galil mags.
I understand it was also used by some UK SF guys in Afghanistan.
I found them reasonably comfortable when I used them in the SADF.

That gear was 40 years ahead of its time. Phenomenal rigs.

I loved me a good battlebra setup especially as I was in the front seats when in vehicles.
It’s always interesting to see how different people and units set up rigs based around TTP’s or what the unit allowed.
The weirdest patrol set up I had was an LBV with the slanted mag pouches on the harness then running full belt kit. Could carry 12-18 30round mags. But as a dog handler I had to carry 4 canteens on my belt kit. It was a lot of water and ammo for sure but what was what they wanted/needed us to carry.
So would run the 6 mags on the LBV always and 6 on the left side in 2x3 round mag pouches, then would have 2 canteens, 2 more minimi pouches at the rear, 2 canteens and another minimi pouch for admin or extra ammo.
Other times I run a Rhodesian style over my standard LCE and not run the LBV still carrying all my required gear for me and the dog. But would use battle-bra/Rhodesian’s on sentry on when in the ‘safe’ areas and I didn’t need to carry all mine and my dogs gear only.
After I finished as a dog handler I ran a straight Molle battlebra/Rhodesian rig.

I like the pattern 83 south African chest rigs. I also love the Chi Com type 56 , type 63, and type 81 chest rigs. The 56 and 81 work great for AK or AR mags. The type 63 is for the SKS, but you can fit AR mags in it. There are alot of modified ones on the net that look cool and they are still dirt cheap.

Thanks guys, I really enjoyed the video. I actually found my last set of "webbing" that I was issued a few months back. And I wondered just how thin I was back in the day. We referred to our gear as webbing, but it was a H harness with a belt & comforter and pouches attached to it with the old GI clips. I supposed the last time I wore it would been in the mid 90"s. Thanks again, and Coch, I still keep a knife handy in case someone has cake. Cheers

You guys should make a video on how much ammo you needed for different missions and how much you carry as a civilian
The basic answer is "as much as you need... X3...."
The standard load is 7-10 mags. And that pretty well fits most situations.
Probably 80% of the time you use 2-3 mags.
The other 20% you use more.
Depends really on what you are doing and that requires both context and experience. But anyone asking, I feel the right answer is "200 rounds, or more."
If you are asking, you probably don't have your context and/or mission dialed in. If/when get that clarified, the number of mags will become more clear.
But without knowing the weapon, the ammo, the mission, or any other context, I say 7-10 mags, or 200 rnds, whichever is greater.

Add mini grenades, M67 frags, WP, M18 Smokes, Claymore...
A lot of SOF elements working the mountains in Afghanistan only carried 3-5mags on PCs with 1 in the gun, due to altitude. The air is thin, so your performance degrades measurably.
Even within an organization, you'll have a lot of differing opinions and Team internal SOPs/trends.

Eagle industries makes awesome gear I was in the marines so I love using it but their gear is so good the Rhodesian is a bad ass chest rig run it with an m1a setup with 4 double m1a pouches and on a separate operator belt run a dump ouch utility pouch and a beretta 92fs with a tlr off my right leg. It’s a heavy load out but I keep most of it on my chest and my pistol gets support from my leg. Dope gear dope kit

While in the F.M.F ( 1980s ) Most of us grunts would put our mag pouches to our sides on our web belts so were not laying on them in the prone. Lower the profile makes better sense.

That Eagle industries is the CH223. Several NMSP (New Mexico State Police) officers used them as they had AR15'S since the early 1990's. There was a store in Albuquerque called Quartermaster Sales that was a dealer for Eagle. Eagle also made one that held 12ga rounds. I've seen pics of USMC using it loaded up with that Winchester 00 buck that had the OD green plastic and black coated brass. Back when the mossberg 590 was adopted. My friend bought one over 20 years ago and he still has it today. They also had one that held SMG and M14 magazines and all of them had the two pistol magazine pouches with one on each side of the long gun stack. Kind of sucks Eagle doesn't make as many products as they used to. But it was high quality and they had a nice selection of tactical vests that nobody seems to use anymore. Maybe you guys can do a presentation on those some day as well? Anyway I love these videos guys.

Engineers are even bigger packrats. My take for civilian use, if you know you are in a bad environment, LA riots or something like that, or home defense the plate carrier with all the protection. For go bag system like in a car the basic Rhodesian would be great for having what you need at your fingertips. I also saw Vietnam Vets with bandolier filled with 20 round mags when on short patrols. Great Video, and great history lesson. Thanks for sharing.
i have come to the conclusion the split front rig is best. when hanging around it can be open for more breathability and comfort. and going prone it can open to help get lower for long range situation. takes nothing to zip up after...
however, i am of the view at least some minimal front plate, even soft armor is worth the weight, etc. having low profile plate carrier and different riggs to wear on top works..
my british tactical belt and fireforce buttpack still carries everything i need..

I’ve got the old 4 slant pouch rig with 2 frag pouches in front…keep 2 sr25s and 2 30rd p mags ready…man don’t realize how heavy ammo is till he packs 4 or more mags…especially 175gr smk’s…thanks men…
FYI the term in "11ese" is "get small". Also I was very fond of shoulder bags -- a ALICE butt pack and a GP sling worked well.
PS I was a Light Inf. officer so my needs were very different especially on Bn staff. Lots of colored crayons and BIG chief note pads LOL

Actually, type 56 chest rig is not the first one that has been used in the Chinese army.
During the Chinese Civil War and the Sino Japan War. Chinese army realized that chest rig more suitable for light infantry movement. Especially compared to the belt, the chest rig can fit the body better when crawling. At the end of the Civil War, we could find many kinds of chest rig on photos like for C96, bolt rifle, and submachine guns.
My great-grandfather was one of the communist guerrilla during the Japanese occupation in Hebei. After he passed away, my mother found a C96 chest rig among his belongings. The chest rig is still in the storage room of our apartment.

I have a mag pouch that's modified to hold a pistol at the proper height and also has a slit cut in the flap to help hold the beaver tail or hammer more securely. It was marketed as a holster but is clearly just an m-4 mag pouch. I still use it as a mag pouch occasionally as the retaining strap is Velcroed in and easily removable. I like it. It's versatile and modular. Condor makes it I believe.
I loved the Rhodesian Recon Chest rig... carried an Eagle Industries RRC in Afghanistan. Loved the set up. Had to go buy my own, though. Worth it.
Great video. Way back in time, late 70's early 80's, I was running a "regular" set of web gear and found a five pocket ten mag chest rig that fit under the web gear giving me 16 mags plus 1 in the rifle. Fit good, didn't even notice the added weight. I wish I could remember where I got it and who built it.

Just a friendly tip from a British Army soldier: the thing the older fella said wasnt a chest rig is called webbing, its great for siuations where you need to be prone because theres nothing on the front and you can reach everything while laying down. They use this a lot in conventional flat land warfare for this reason, might be a good idea for recce work? idk it wasnt what I did, just seems logical.

Great video guys. If you get chance check out the British Army Northern Ireland chest rig from the 90s. Lads were still using these in Iraq and Afghan up until early to mid 2000. great bit of kit
Wore the old SADF 83 pattern battle jacket and chest rig on my first tour of Iraq as well as the arktis rig depending on role. Second tour we were issued a U.K. varient which was rubbish so went back to billy basics.

One thing I'm not sure if guys still use because I really don't see them on anyone's kit anymore.... Chem lights.. Both IR and visible. And flex cuffs. We used them like candy marking whatever was needed. And taking back whoever needed questioning. Do guys not use them anymore? Something else out there now that fills that role?
I have like 10 chem lights across various spots on my rig and 2 pairs of flex cuffs threaded through some unused molle. Def still carried by some of us, it's just that capturing prisoners and marking targets/positions with chems for CAS isn't typically an expected civvie use case.
I'm a civilian so my applications are very different but I keep chemlights on my kit for various reasons both visible and IR. No flex cuffs because I have nobody to take prisoners to.

I prefer to keep everything protruding on my sides. Experience tells me that sometimes you need to press hard to the ground and nothing should stand in the way
Another aspect to keep in mind is how and at what speed you put on all those bras in total darkness. And it won't get tangled in the harnesses
Cochs LBT Ephod copy was awesome to see, those things were high fashion back in the day and are still have a place in my opinion. Who made that Ranger Green slick armor carrier in the video it has First Spear vibes all over it, they have a pretty unique design sense but would love to know.
