Yup. Even a penetration can be at least lessened by armor and turn what would otherwise be an almost immediately fatal wound into a wound that won't put you down on the ground or at least a treatable wound and you will survive upon receiving help.

I think that it would protect enough against stabbing, especially when you consider you’d also be wearing clothes over it. Doesn’t seem like it would go deep enough to hit any major organs and on top of that many people don’t keep their knives that sharp.

For the broke boys looking to fill a similar niche look around for surplus German SK1 vests. should be around 150-175 bucks if you can find them. Mine measured at .27' vs the Safelite at .19' thicker than the Safelite but still fairly thin. the SK1 standard includes 3 rounds of 9mil at 5 meters and another 3 rounds of 9mil at contact which I think is a relevant test for a concealable vest. From the anecdotal backyard tests I have seen it will *technically* stop .44 magnum but fail at backface deformation so there is a tradeoff. up to you to determine if getting vibe checked by .44 magnum is a relevant threat or not. Some also have dedicated anti-stab inserts if that's a concern although they about double the overall thickness of the vest. *Insert muh just as good cope here*
The issue with such a thin armor is even if it stops the round, a hit by one of the more powerful rounds near the heart will cause more localized bruising and could cause heart arrhythmia. If the person has lighter bone structure and lower volume pectoral muscles, there may not be enough mass to mitigate the direct contusion experienced by the heart and may cause it to stop.
@@lancelot365e That is a good point. However, the difference between a harder and less flexible armor and these new stronger but more flexible elastic armors is that the final deformation (dent) is likely not going to represent maximum deformation. Don't know if they have accounted for that difference in the 3a testing criteria.
The arrhythmia thing you speak of is pretty rare. Most people refer to the cardiac arrest case of Damar Hamlin due to commotio cordis. What happens is called an R on T phenomenon. The force of impact does actually create some form of “joules” similar to defibrillation. The electrical conduction in the heart goes through a pattern of PQRST waves. The force would have to land perfectly on the T wave for this phenomenon to occur. (I’m a paramedic and have had some long discussions about this phenomenon).

Every one of these videos I have watched so far have made the apples to oranges comparison of this vs a plate carrier. What about a comparison between this and other soft panels in a concealable carrier from other brands? I understand budget restraints, but wouldn't it be a more informative and useful comparison? I dont know that any IIIa panels are totally stab proof, but there are NIJ certified panels, slightly thicker than these, that will still conceal well. everyone should keep in mind that there is only one piece of armor from Safe Life Defense that is NIJ certified, and that is their regular IIIa panels. Also, almost all Safe Life armor is more expansive than competitors, and they don't even have NIJ certifications.

Kevlar does not expire, at least not as quickly as people say it does. There was a test conducted in 2005 using Vietnam-era flak vests, and the vests worked just as intended 40+ years later.
They give an expiry date as a linit to their liability for insurance purposes. No insurance company would touch them if it they could be liable indefinitely. It's not a "marketing" strategy it's an insurance issue
I feel like Safelife defense products do what they promise, and while I do think that their armor will stop the calibers it says it will, you have to outweigh the injury that will inevitably occur even if the vest stops the bullet. Its definitely a double edged sword fs. Either way, applause to Safelife defense for making revolutionary armor, and its 100% better than nothing.

Most soft armor won't stop bladed weapons, however there are many instances of police officers and soldiers being shot in their armor and only being able to tell or even feel the impact way after the fact when their adrenaline runs out
