Reminds me of a Corner Gas scene. Davis (the senior cop in Dog River) tells Karen (the newer cop) that he got enough money to buy himself a taser by cheaping out and getting "Bullet Resistant" vests instead of Bulletproof, and Karen responds by saying "Have you ever camped in a water resistant tent, you get pretty wet"
Charlie actually did it, I remember when he was talking about the viewer suggestions and somebody suggested a tier list of bulletproof vests. Let's hope that viewer gets recognized for the idea.
As a former British Police officer I brought my own vest and placed two steel armoured plates under the vest on front and back. I could still be stabbed under the arms or side. I've seen a knife attacker not penetrate the front material on a colleagues vest but the blade attack broke the rips and caused alot of bruising. These are "Anti" stab. Best thing to do if you have no weapon , is run away. Don't fight a knife attacker unless you have at the very least a Batton to defend yourself.
Real life advice right there. Knife fights are ultra violent stuff you just don't wanna be in. The Steel plate is a good idea for some extra blunt force trauma protection. You defo still gonna notice it but getting hit on an AR500 plate is different then taking one into fabric...
I'd say if your worried about getting stabbed buy an AR500 steel plate for modern use But if you need more flexibility and willing to spend more money and not worried about getting made fun off, buy a good riveted chainmail But if you are worried about bullets then spend extra money on ceramic plates because bullet spalling is definitely an issue against rifle rounds Also with plates don't cheap out on plate carrier
Hats off to you and other brave officers!!! What you guys face and deal with is nuts and I respect you for it!!! Geez I saw a video of a guy being stabbed with what looked like a tiny jab in the stomach... It killed him in under a minute because the crim hit an artery. Be safe as you can out there! Wishing you the best!
A bit of both I'm sure. Plus Matt has some really long arms so his leverage is a lot better regardless of strength. Edit: After being a fan of this channel for about 3 years now, I JUST realized that Matt from this channel and Andrew from the podcast are two completely different people.
These are the only videos that interest me for this channel, it is more objective then the martial art debunking channels, because it is not promoting it's own mma program.
The $600 is Safe Life Defense's 3A+ concealable vest and they absolutely kick ass. They fit comfortably and don't get nearly as hot and sweaty as other vests do. The vest also comes with a front and back side, protecting your entire torso. There's videos of these vests taking like 300+ rounds of 9mm without any penetration. They'll stop pretty much any pistol caliber (up to .44mag) and shotguns as well as knives and needles. It even diminishes the impact from blunt force like from a bat. Standard kevlar vests will *not* do that. I got one on sale a while back, and they have a pretty good program to get them into the hands of LEOs and first responders for cheap or even free.
The thing to remember with modern body armour is that it's a battle of compromises. One material is good against blades, but not bullets, the other bullets, but not blades, and you're constantly trying to minimise weight and allow more freedom of movement.
Modern armor vests, carriers, and plates don't hinder your mobility like an Interceptor vest or police entry vest would. The biggest issues are concealability and breathability. Level IIIA soft vest with pockets for level IV ICW plates. Or a cocealable level IIIA soft vest and a low-vis/slick level IIIA/IV plate carrier on top. Take measures to avoid heatstroke. Beware of "cheat rings" when buying hard armor plates from overseas. Do your research. And for god's sake, DO NOT buy steel plates.
I'm glad someone finally had the courage to stand up to society and kindly suggest "I think it's time we stop stabbing each other" Even if no one else will, I support you on this Charles ✊️
The last vest you used was a safe life level 3a+ meaning it was rated up to a 44 magnum while also being able to stop special threats like 5.7mm and knives so the vest is also bullet resistant (.22,38,9,45,357,44,5.7)are the calibers it should stop, also it has a spike rating so it would've stopped ice picks as well

I used to use a bullet proof vest while working security, crazy fact is the vest was only bullet proof not stab proof. A knife would penetrate the vest while a bullets velocity would be spread out across the vest on impact
i mean i think its a little exaggerated by the media. fold up a dozen shirts and try to cut through that. sure, you can, but only if you're in a really bad spot and someone's just *charging* you down.
Were you using a soft vest, plates can deflect slashes and the kevlar can mitigate the damage of the knife if it penetrates, you would be moving so a good stab is kind of hard, so it's certainly better than nothing
You SHOULD use a USMC OKC 3S bayonet for these tests, it was specially redesigned from the Army bayonet so it could penetrate body armor....the point is sharpened into a dagger on top and bottom....quite a bit nastier than a kbar....
when the jet fuel colorway knife broke it reminded of me when the legend of Zelda tears of the kingdom when link breaks the master sword trying to seal away the darkness in the beginning of the game.
Charlie’s journey to becoming an operator is getting better and better. Neat seeing Matt wearing some Safelife Defense body armor, I have some myself. Definitely recommend
Fun fact: Even Kevlar vests can be penetrated through by sharp objects and projectiles. (i.e. knifes, arrows, crossbow bolts, etc.) However it is by no means easy to do with certain objects.
Next time you do one of these with super cheap knives you may want some eye protection lol. The only knife there that was more likely to bend rather than shatter is the ka-bar as it's most likely a softer carbon steel meant to take a beating.

Real life advice right there. Knife fights are ultra violent stuff you just don't wanna be in. The Steel plate is a good idea for some extra blunt force trauma protection. You defo still gonna notice it but getting hit on an AR500 plate is different then taking one into fabric...
I'd say if your worried about getting stabbed buy an AR500 steel plate for modern use
But if you need more flexibility and willing to spend more money and not worried about getting made fun off, buy a good riveted chainmail
But if you are worried about bullets then spend extra money on ceramic plates because bullet spalling is definitely an issue against rifle rounds
Also with plates don't cheap out on plate carrier
Or just carry guns like real police officers.

I can’t tell if Charlie is weak or Matt just has the power of Thor.
Charlie just didn't have to try that hard, those vests aren't that good up until you spend almost 1k.
A bit of both I'm sure. Plus Matt has some really long arms so his leverage is a lot better regardless of strength.
Edit: After being a fan of this channel for about 3 years now, I JUST realized that Matt from this channel and Andrew from the podcast are two completely different people.

its nice knowing that streamers are getting more and more interested in the gun community, as well as defensive equipment.
Charlie is one of the only human beings that would always look uninterested but is actually interested
Just wear both
Right
i like the slow mo sound effects, i feel like it’s needed in all slow mo clips

not to be woke or have any hot takes, but I think we should stop stabbing each other
@@von...yeah
The last vest you used was a safe life level 3a+ meaning it was rated up to a 44 magnum while also being able to stop special threats like 5.7mm and knives so the vest is also bullet resistant (.22,38,9,45,357,44,5.7)are the calibers it should stop, also it has a spike rating so it would've stopped ice picks as well
yeah I've seen a dude stabbing it with an ice pick and it bent the pick

they way Charlie yelled "hiyaaahh" when stabbing with the master sword was spot on 🤣
5:18 lmao at the slowmoguy type ambient sound while showing a slow mo vids with fewer frame per second than a powerpoint
I used to use a bullet proof vest while working security, crazy fact is the vest was only bullet proof not stab proof. A knife would penetrate the vest while a bullets velocity would be spread out across the vest on impact
We will miss you 😔
i mean i think its a little exaggerated by the media. fold up a dozen shirts and try to cut through that. sure, you can, but only if you're in a really bad spot and someone's just *charging* you down.
Were you using a soft vest, plates can deflect slashes and the kevlar can mitigate the damage of the knife if it penetrates, you would be moving so a good stab is kind of hard, so it's certainly better than nothing
You must've been using a plain vest rather than a plate carrier. Can't stab through steel
yes. Real stab-proof vests only protect against stabs, not bullets. These are two different protection concepts.
Thinking about moving to uk, this was very helpful and informative
I hope you're having fun going through all these😊 Great stuff dude
IMH Charlie really shines when he is with his friends. I prefer these videos to the solo ones, but just my preference. Keep the group stuff coming :)
You SHOULD use a USMC OKC 3S bayonet for these tests, it was specially redesigned from the Army bayonet so it could penetrate body armor....the point is sharpened into a dagger on top and bottom....quite a bit nastier than a kbar....
The slow mo guys sound for the slow motion was great.

the wish vest is perfect. you just *wish* you don’t get stabbed 2:02

Fun fact:
Even Kevlar vests can be penetrated through by sharp objects and projectiles. (i.e. knifes, arrows, crossbow bolts, etc.) However it is by no means easy to do with certain objects.
The slow mo guys sound effects are amazing

Next time you do one of these with super cheap knives you may want some eye protection lol. The only knife there that was more likely to bend rather than shatter is the ka-bar as it's most likely a softer carbon steel meant to take a beating.
yeah getting stabbed in the eye is bad. probably should protect your neck too
We needed somebody to do it and thankfully we have Charlie! 💯
the way it transitioned from charlie shanking himself to vest 1 with the music was perfect.
