Saw Maestro Dean Parks live with James Taylor last night. He’s an absolute legend on guitar! The rhythm section was driven by the great Steve Gadd!
One of my favorite players! Used to see him at the Baked Potato in L.A in the late 70s & early 80's
Dean is one of the top notch very best session guitarists of all time. He rocked Bread (the band), and listen to his work with more than just Steely Dan.... He played on more records than most people ever imagined. Johnny Rivers, Stevie Wonder, BREAD, David Gates, Van Morrison..... and a super large list of hit records! He wrote “Dancing Machine” and played for the Jacksons..... Dean is an amazing Guitarist 🎸 for sure!
A happy day today when I found this! Such a deserving master. Hope he knows how much he’s appreciated world wide.
Love Dean's awesome playing with bread !
Dean Parks is so cool and steady. It reflects on how he plays guitar
Dean is an Amazing musician and seems like an Amazing person. Check out his interview with Tim Pierce. WOW!!!!
mike burstein - THX for sharing that!! I love listening to these professional session musicians. Have you watched "Sound City" and "Muscle Shoals"? Must-sees!
Dom YOU are an absolute pro!
Dom YOU are an absolute pro!
Love his work on Steely Dan's Haitian Divorce.....The Talk Box. Modest, Humble and a very nice guy.....can see why he works so much. An unsung Legend....You Go Dean!!!
Actually, Walter played the solo on Haitian Divorce but apparently he copied Dean’s parts and played it through a talk box. So Dean wrote that solo in essence.
I heard that Dean played the solo and Walter came back and re-amped the part through the talkbox.
I love his solos on “Here At The Western World” and “Rose Darling”
Nope. It’s Dean. But you can tell that they have very similar styles.
So good to see your interview. When I was still in High School, Dean played in some small dances I booked around Ft Worth - clarinet & guitar. And we've remained friends over the years. When I was working with Sonny & Cher and debating to move to LA, I called him and said if you know anyone looking for a keyboard player? 2 weeks later I flew to LA to audition for Joan Armatrading and that made the move. It is so good to hear him talk about the history and decisions he made in his life, some I was around but didn't know the history of. Brilliant player and wonderful person...
I am very lucky because Dean recording my all album, amazing, amazing gentleman and musician❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for doing this interview. Not a whole lot of interviews with him, which is unfortunate. He's one of the greats! Other than his obvious guitar skills, you can see why people would hire him. Such a nice low key guy.
Parks sound is what made me discover who he was. Love his style.
I recorded Dean for a track around 20 years ago and of course his playing was flawless and made the track. But what really stood out was his sense of humor and his humility. Just an all-around great guy.
I came here specifically to learn about Dean's beginnings on the guitar and that is exactly what I got. Thank you, Dom. You always dig deep in your interviews and that is greatly appreciated.
Dean Parks 🎶 ❤️
Fascinating guest. Excellent interviewer!
This interview was amazing I went to North Texas State several years after Dean was already well on his way but he was one of those legendary figures to be able to play guitar and one band and sax in another. he certainly learn to play acoustic guitar extremely well listen to the classical guitar on Josh Groban‘s Christmas song.
Love his work with the Dan. Fantastic player with a lot of character!
Superb information here: real, practical, in-depth nuts & bolts stuff.
All these studio guys made so many artists and producers rich by laying down creative tracks on their songs
The Wrecking Crew
The Funk Brothers
Muscle Shoals
Another legend in the music industry!
Wow I did not know there was a connection between Steely Dan and the University of North Texas where I went to.
Holy moly!
Wow, thank you Dean Parks for that wise advice. I love your playing and sound.
This was just GREAT. Even though I'm not a guitarist I wish I had seen this 30 years ago when I was starting out. Thanks so much for posting!
Really enjoying this interview. Dean reminds me of a friend of mine who I miss sitting down with. Love hearing people's stories - experience is an excellent teacher. Always enjoy Dom's interviews - God Bless You Dom for this fantastic Channel, DC. PS - Gary Asher who lives just down the road from me says hello. Gary's house is a drum museum, I feel like I go to heaven each time I go. Keep in the groove Dom! 🥁🎶👍DC

Thank you guys for all this great content!
Fascinating stuff. Dean seems like a really nice, level headed, hard-working guy.
Many thanks for this.
My fave Dean is Sugerfoot about the great Hank Garland!! Produced by Steve Vai.
This is really my favourite Channel!

Waiting for your latest update.
Dean Park
Thank you so much Dean! We appreciate your support, subscribing so you don't miss any new ones & sharing to others to help us bring many more!
Thank You folks i am very inspired to become a better listener now!
What a great video and as someone who records I have pushed more musicians to get a small Tascam or Zoom SDHC card recorder and record themselves playing so they know what the audience hears. This is invaluable for any musician. I have given voice lesson at my home for people who wanted to sing solos as church who were not quite ready for prime time, even though they "thought" they were. Everyone sounds great in the shower. Not. Thanks for this video.
Super nice guy and a genius!
Check out his banjo work on the soundtrack to The Man in the Moon, Reese Witherspoon's debut movie.
Larry Carlton, Louis Shelton, Tommy Tedesco, and Dean , wow!!
Peter Butler and Lee Ritenour too
Jay Graydon too
@@ralex3697 Absolutely! Jay Graydon's name ought to be obligatory to mention in every interview such as this.
Right On! "There's many hidden in history in a way that they planned being happy & humble just to jam with the band. Others out front put a face to their name but all are important in making music claim to fame." Shout Out to Dan Huff, Steve Lukather, Tom Bukovac, Glen Campbell, Steve Cropper, James Burton, Chet Atkins, Hank Garland, Joe Messina, Brent Mason, Tim Pierce, Ray Edenton, Big Jim Sullivan, Bill Pitman, Jimmy Johnson, a few prominent pickers & six string axe slingers! +Peace Rock n' Roll 4 Your Souls+
Dean My God - I would do the Exact Same thing - I called it my 10 times through game --- and I wouldn't leave that practice session Until it was done 10 times
Thank You Thank You
Love your interviews Dom!

Another Gem Dom! I love Dean's playing on The Nightfly album.

Jay Graydon too
Excellent interview!🙌🏻🙌🏻🍎
GREAT WORK DOM!! I GUESS BE VERY PREPARED AND BE ABLE TO BE PART OF A TEAM STICKS OUT AS MOST SHARED ADVICE FROM THE PROS.
Deans from my home town
What a pro.
Legend, check his work on David Gates " Goodbye girl" lp. Particularly "California girl". Phenomenal stuff.
HE IS THE GUITAR PLAYER IN THE ALBUM "NEVER HER LET GO " ?? GREETINGS FROM ARGENTINA
I loved his work with Joe Cocker.
We need Steely Dan stories!,, please!,,
Dean Parks is a great guitarist. He played well with BREAD
Wonderful player ✨
HE IS THE GUITAR PLAYER IN THE DAVID GATES ALBUM "NEVER HER LET GO " ?? GREETINGS FROM ARGENTINA
Very interesting. I thought that Parks was established before Carlton in the 70's L A music recording sessions scene, but nope.
Listen to Dean on Kenny Young’s Last Stage For Silverworld is other worldly. Unfortunately very few have heard it.
Whoa.
Nice work! Another great session cat to interview would be Phil Upchurch. He's an amazing Guitar player, but also a monster Bass player.
I tried talking to him at the 89 Namn show. He was a jerk.
Upchurch is even more unsung than Parks!
he played with barry whites orchestra,i wonder who were the sound stage seven session musicians?
check out Wikipedia for a list of all his credits, it is insane how many people he has played with through the years
Visions with stevie
What was the name of that music store in the early days..was it Brook Mays music..
North Texas State huh ? Can you imagine him playing with Snarky Puppy ?
I'm curious as to how and when Dean passed on the woodwinds in favor of guitar.
Math and music connection, again. Cool.
'Dean'...his name kind of says it all, huh?
Thought worked on movie Mark Wahlberg?
Excellent interview but what baffles me is how is this guy a Texan? No cowboy vibe coming from Mr. Parks. He has that laidback Californian demeanour. Although come to think of it, Dean’s a little like Roy Orbison so maybe I’m wrong on this.
Maybe he's in California for too long. And not everybody from Texas has to look "Texan". This is nothing more than a stereotype and a bad one at that!
I’m disappointed in this interviewer that he didn’t ask more interesting questions...like asking for stories with the great musical geniusesi that he worked with ....or did he ever witness some historic solo being created or about the creative process.
I went with what Dean wanted to talk about. Geez, just enjoy the conversation.
Poor baby 😂
