This was a great movie, tough to watch but a very necessary perspective that's needed to bring awareness to the realities and challenges that families and patients face with such complex diseases of mental health. I found it comforting and was pleased to see how the psychiatrist emphasized separating the person from the disease because many patients are discriminated against and misjudged.

These parents were at a total loss ,trying everything they could think of to make him fit Their ideas.
Problem is they didn't look beyond dying to force him or change only his environment, they needed to look into diet and nutritional ways to HEAL not treat. We have been given everything good for the healing of man and it isn't from the Drs prescription or surgery, cuz when they can't help any longer thru these means ,they tell you there's nothing more than can do. Seek an you will find the answers.

great movie. Great Progress has been made in the mental health field since those days thanks to the likes of Dr Chris Palmer and Dr Georgia Ede who are having great success with patients who have Depression, Bipolar, Schizophrenia and other Mental Health conditions, treating them through diet by elimination of all processed food, sugars and carbs and maintaining a ketogenic/carnivore diet. Many things contribute to brain ill-health one of which is inflammation from certain foods consumed regularly such as grains, sugars, seed oils (canola, soy, sunflower) and processed foods. This alone is getting people off medications and changing psychiatry.

@questioneverything that's not bad advice I'm a mother of 7 children five of which are now adults... none of them were disrespectful and unruly like Tim was and he clearly was that way mainly to his parents even his brother kept begging them to chastise him and he was right!! Parents who let their child do and say what they want to are not good parents they are enabling the child to be the way they are and it's very sad they'd rather drug their child then actually raise them in love in a balanced way🤦‍♀️

Corporal punishment is not always the answer. I raised my 4 by the principles laid out in our guide book, their diets were wholesome and made from scratch. Love covers a multitude of sin, and discipline given in love not anger or frustration, is the only acceptable way, otherwise yu create anger an defiance eventually.

As an adult with mental illness of anxiety and depression since I was 6 years old, I know that Tim was not acting out or manipulitave. By the time I was 13, my depression was worse. Twice in my 20s, I tried to end my life, thankfully unsucessfully. If it was not the support of my family I would not have gotten through this. I am still on medication to this day. So please please just stop with saying that he needs corporal punishment. Its BS! 😡😪
