I am a weed scientist and I love Korean food, so this is the perfect video for me! I can't believe they are selling lambsquarters at the farmer's market...you can find them in any field or park!
Thanks, Maangchi, for the recipe. I didn't know Koreans ate Lamb's Quarters or that there was even a Korean word for it. I love the stuff and actively cultivate it in my garden along with other beneficial "weeds".
I'm so excited you found this in NYC. I'm going to try to search for it! I love all of your vegetable recipes. So many tasty ways to eat healthy foods.
I just LOVE Lamb's Quarter. I've eaten it since I was a small child and I grow it in my garden each year. This recipe looks SO good and it's a great change of pace, I can't wait to try it! Thank you for posting :)
Thank you for the nice comments! I published the recipe now. Check out the photos and some tips on substitutes for lambs quarters. If you can't find them, you will still be able to make delicious green stuff. oh, it's a vegetarian dish! Happy cooking!
Interesting. Now your pigs have a competitor to eat the delicious plants. Lamb's quarters are also called goosefoot because it looks like goose foot! Some people call it just wild spinach because it tastes like spinach? It tastes similar to spinach but a little firmer.
Chenopodium album is related to our common spinach. IMHO, it tastes even better. Grew up in Oklahoma harvesting the tops of this wonderful wild edible. As Maanchi says, harvest the tender tops, and delicious greens are available all summer. Below that point, the larger leaves can be harvested and eaten as well. Love it!
looks delish. I have a field full of lambsquarters, just read about an Indian recipe using them and now happy to have yours as my second recipe for using lambsquarters
I am 1/2 Korean and 1/2 Italian...I have many homemade Italians dishes that I make all he time...thank you SO much for posting these amazing Korean dishes that I can now do as well. No more going out to eat when I can make it at home ;)
THIS IS GREAT! i was telling my husband that lambs quarters were edible (we've got some growing in our bushes) but wasn't sure if they could be eaten raw or cooked, so now i have a recipe we'll be eating them!
I'm definitely going to try this recipe! I always have lots of lambs quarters growing wild in my backyard in the summer and I haven't been able to find very exciting recipes for them until now.
Maangchi, you've posted so many korean dishes that I'd never thought it could be homemade!!!! Living in America, and your recipe helps me so much of enjoying my hometown foods. And I have a favor that could you post the recipe of 순대? because your just magician of cooking that i'm thinking you could share...thankyou
I love Lamb's Quarters. I use it in Old Norse reconstructed recipes. I did not know this was part of Korean cuisine. This looks amazing! People should know that Lamb's Quarters often grow on disturbed soils. However, they also concentrate heavy metals and chemicals in them easily. Thus, harvesting them from vacant lots, particularly in former industrial areas, is not advised. Stick to the banksides like Maangchi.
Lambsquarters tend to grow in open sunny spaces. They are a fast growing annual and a very tough to control weed in farm fields. They are definitely all over Wisconsin--look near fields and roadsides.
Great recipe. Lambs Quarters is closely related to Quinoa which also has the goose foot shaped leaves. The leaves are full of nutrients and they can even cross pollinate if I remember right. Definitely one of those plants that should be thought of as free food instead of as a weed or pest.
Maangchi that looks delicious! I don't know whether we have lamb's quarters in Malaysia or not, but usually for vegetables like that, we cook them with coconut milk, garlic, onions, chilli and anchovies/shrimp/fish. just boil everything together, put the leaves last. I bet these leaves would taste great if they were cooked like that as well. :)
I'm really curious about the taste of this dish, I've never had Lamb's quarters and actually never heard of it until today! I must find out if it grows around here and if I can find some I will try your recipe. Thanks for always teaching me lots of new foods to try Maangchi! If only I knew of a Korean store anywhere near me I would try out a lot more of your dishes.
That looked delicious. There are so many greens growing like weeds here in the U.S. that we don't know that we can eat. Can you do a video pointing out more of the food that we mistake as weeds? Like some people don't know perilla is not a useless weed but a delicious green. Who knew? :-D There is even a a little bit of a kudzu movement here in Georgia know that people know the leaves are edible and nutritious.
Very interesting plant! It grows wild here in Germany, too but I always thought it was animal food only, as RennicJ said. I will give it a try. And may I add, Maangchi, you look beautiful with that white hat and scarf! Like a fairy!
Creo que es cenizo, pero yo no sabia que existe esa planta antes de ver este video. Tambien no se donde vive y es posible que se llama diferente en su pais. (Lo siento que no puedo hacer acentos)
Ok first off let me say, this was my first time watching one of your videos and I am hooked. That looked so good and I love your personality. Just think some people call Lambsquarters [Myeongaju] a common weed. Well, like I always say, "that "thang" there is food."
thank for your recipe!^^ could you please show us how to make radish pickle (the one with yellow color) i love to make kimbap with it but it is hard to find in Vietnam, i had tried it in Singapore and i like the taste so if you have time please show me how to do it, thanks a lot and the best wish for you!!^^
Maangchi, I remember we were having a squadron barbeque and I found some 잡초를 찌를 (poke weed) growing wild by the lake. I was a very happy man. I picked some tender tops and took home to cook that night. Do Koreans eat this wild edible as well?
Help! What is kamaboko? Also I saw what look like a heart shaped cucumber and s star fo you know what they and are they available in the states? Thanks so much
Dear Maangchi! After a lot of my whining, the only little Asian store where I live finally ordered hot pepper paste for me! I am so exited about this.I was wondering if you could tell me how long can it last after opening (everything is in Korean there)
I think it's really awesome that you forage your local parks! I was wondering, do you ever worry about how dirty the plants might be? For some reason I always worry about animal urine or something o__o
Maangchi, what was the area like where you found the lamb's quarters? Dry? Moist? Shady? Sunny? After watching your vid, I realized that I have one growing wild in a spare pot on my deck. So, I know they grow here in Wisconsin. I just don't know where to start looking! ;-0
Hi Maangchi! You're so great, i've watched every video of Yours :) thanks for sharing Your receipe With us :) it'd be an honor to meet you :) can i ask you something? Do you know U-Kiss? :)

I love lambs quarter! Cooks just like spinach and it grows everywhere ESP in newly turned up soil. So easy to ind once you know what it looks like.

I'm totally doing this for dinner tonight. Thank you so much for making the recipe easy.
It sounds like you are so passionate about cooking! Welcome!
I have lambs quarter growing all over my yard and garden like weeds, thanks for giving me a recipe and showing me how to pick and what to do with it.

My Grandmother would fix this for me back in the 60's. She said it was very popular before the supermarket days we have now.
Lambsquarters tend to grow in open sunny spaces. They are a fast growing annual and a very tough to control weed in farm fields. They are definitely all over Wisconsin--look near fields and roadsides.
Love the recipes

I'm very impressed that you can identify so many wild foods and herbs. Have you ever picked and eaten the wrong thing by accident?

Can be picked in the mountains of Korea and only in a park in Manhattan? Interesting plant this is.
as long as it's refrigerated after opening, it stays good for a really long time;)
We call this plant pigweed on the farm, because that's who we feed it to! Never thought to eat it ourselves =)

No, that's not a mistake. She meant evicted...
Like thrown out of her home because of how it smells.
