This is great- my grandmother used to make this in sweet- with cherrys and cinamon and this was used to be eaten eaten with vanilla sauce- this was my absolute favorite as a child!
Halfway through your video I started to realize there was something very familiar about what you were making. I realized that this is very much like the loaf of stuffing I make at Thanksgiving. Yours is moist and fluffy, mine is moist and dense but ultimately they are very much the same thing. I look forward to trying your method.
Thanks for this recipe. Jamie, my mouth was watering all through the video. I'd go to the ends of the earth for a challah kugel like you made. I would be honored to have on my shabbos table your bubby's challah kugel. Your bubby is (was) very smart. This recipe reminds me of my late mother's bread pudding recipe. The story goes when my family moved to Israel, Beersheva to be precise we lived in an ulpan and my mom noticed that the dinning room (we ate communal style)kitchen staff were throwing away just day old bread, so my mom asked the minahale (head of the kitchen) if she can have the kitchen and requested all the ingredients she needed and the minahale obliged and my mother made her famous bread pudding and gave the minahale a taste and he/she was very impressed and hooked and asked my mother if she would accept a job in their kitchen but, my mom said "she doesn't cook for others" after this incident, we had bread pudding that was coming out of our ears but, my late mother did a mitzvah (just like you're doing) by not wasting day old challah, bread. Question- can you add onions to your challah kugel? Obviously if you use old onion rolls or onion challah it would have onions automatically-am I right? Thanks again I also loved your video immensely.
I have boycotted on cooking for my blended family. I made cholent recently after I returned from Israel. it was beautiful. One certain family member dissected it and made commentary on it she was medical school. It was delicious. But, this isn’t the first time my food has been dissected and commented upon like she’s Gordon Ramsey or something. I was going to make Challah kugel (Thanksgiving style) for Thanksgiving, then remembered the aforementioned experience. So this year now she is making the Thanksgiving meal.
Thank you so much for this amazing recipe I really enjoyed watching the two of you. i’m going to attempt to make this. I’ve been married for 23 years. My husband has never helped me in the kitchen. However, he’s the one who cleans the house. So, I guess I can’t complain.
oh quit nitpicking its a good recipe and she isnt a profetional chef shes just trying to give us some easy delitious recipies. so what if she messes up in a few sayings?! even if she said the bread crumbs were sky it would still be delitious so who cares? Jamie thank you for this amazing recipe my family loved it!
mcomeslast I love the idea thanks for the suggestion. To clarify do you want to know about reheating foods for shabbos lunch or setting the table or what exactly? And guess what? I didn't grown up this way either :-) We will try to work it into our production schedule as soon as we are able (but note it could take us some time).
Thank You very much, I also learned this recipe from my Grandparents. But If I may add, you can add some fresh lemon juice if you want and dice in some tiny pieces of apple. Yummy. And if your really lazy, you can leave the crust but soak it in water a little more and squeeze it out. I dont make cubes I just make one big mushy thing with the water.
"Homemade" Noodles' veggie Kugle equally cuts the muster folding in chopped choice greens, garlic 'n shallots thinly sliced as an alternative to the even more fruity Challah Kugle concentrated with diced apricots, apples, raisins 'n prunes tinged with rum.
In the North of England they say if you eat the crust it gives you curly hair. Something a little more serious, much of the flavour is in the crust. Try it. Taste the same bread with and without crust.
Made this tonight with roasted chicken. 1/2 whole wheat and 1/2 regular challah. I saved bread for a few weeks. So good, there is chicken and roasted pumpkin leftover but no Kugel :(
אני באמת אוהב את המתכון שלך ואני מעריץ הכי גדול שלך ב- RUclips אני אוהב את הרב שלך יהודי ✌️🍀✨💖🙏🏼 I really like your recipe and I admire your biggest on youtube I love your rabbi and Jewish✌️🍀✨💖🙏🏼
According to most Rabbi's this should be eaten when eating Challah since the Bracha is Hamotzi. Because you can see the pieces of Bread/Challah So please ask your local Rabbi.
Never use moldy bread, even if you're able to cut out the mold. The problem is that most mold is invisible. If there's enough visible mold to cut, the bread is already shot full of mold you can't see yet
actually I learned in chumash that kugle is hinted to in parshat behaaloticha when it talks anout the maan beacause the pasuk says the maan was kiagul, like it was round. kiagul is the same shoresh as kugle, and that is where we learn kugle in the parsha.
You say that you leave them diced uncovered over night so they are not to moist. But the next thing you soak them with water. I will have to try this but I never have any leftover challah so i need to bake some extra challahs just for this.
at first, I didn't notice that you have another sink in your kitchen, so you can scratch that last comment. I only saw the one sink. So, you can disregard my comment from before. My only comment now is that it looks "icky" with the sponge when you are squeezing the liquid out of the colander.
I know this is 3 years old, but I felt compelled to say its pretty shady to be looking for problems with Jamie's kitchen in a video sharing a RECIPE. Like you felt you HAD to comment with something to criticise her about. Try looking for things to compliment instead.
Lol, no! Not like stuffing! Like a pudding, same consistency. You make an egg pudding and add pieces of challah. There's plenty of recipes for bread pudding; replace the bread with challah and there you have it.
Great recipe, enjoyed the interaction, however the zooming in and out and back and forth of the camera made this hard to watch. Camera should have stayed so the whole cooking area could be watched ....
Why was my first post flagged as spam because someone didn't like it? We are are talking about Kosher food here, so I don't find it inappropriate to make a comment about a Bracha. Sorry if anyone got offended by that.. And I did write ask your Rabbi, I didn't just say, do as I say.
+MrLinushka challah is jewish brioche, just like gefilte fish is jewish quenelles. the challah kugel could use some honey whipped cream on the side, that would be very british and totally dairy -- but i think i might use schmaltz instead of oi to brown the crust of the kugel. that bumps it up a notch or two! can you make gefilte fish with catfish or walleye pike? i have a blender and would love to try.
Hollis Evon Ramsey ye's i know it's similar but i believe brioche hot a lot of butter...challah doesn't...challah got some oil and eggs. i meant that challah will never survive few weeks because it's delicious and so versatile.
That man sounds like he knows more to do what with his pronunciation than he does his wife LOL tell him to start taking a whole bunch of DHEA before I find where you live
Des récipients en acier inox, en verre, en ceramique, mais jamais de récipients en plastique dans ma cuisine , ce n'est pas kasher ! Le plastique peut porter des microbes.
I didn't hear a blessing. Are you shy to thank Hashem? Was it cut off the video? Next time please do Kidush Hashem and say a blessing out loud and also Amen. It's the minimum we can do to thank Hashem. Anyway, what is the blessing? Hamotzi? SheHacol? Mezonot? I enjoy your videos we are proud Jews:)
I'm not Jewish (Roman Catholic) but the absence of the blessing caught my attention. I was under the impression that you needed to thank G-d for everything. Even if it's just a Diet Coke? I really liked your Rabbi and that he refers to his wife as his princess.
I think Jamie takes the chabad approach to inclusivity. She is trying to make it open for all. And she mentioned that she had already been feeding the Rabbi so they likely already blessed. I'm a secular but knowledgeable Jew with a modern Orthodox brother. If she was mentioning Hashem every minute it would make people like me or non-Jews as uncomfortable as if I was watching a soul food recipe where they kept talking about jesus. Cooking videos especially cultural ones should be about sharing a part of who we are with the world not vainly trying to prove what perfect Jews they are for others.
This is great- my grandmother used to make this in sweet- with cherrys and cinamon and this was used to be eaten eaten with vanilla sauce- this was my absolute favorite as a child!

Robert Pickett Awesome, let me know how it turns out and compares.
Thanks for this recipe. Jamie, my mouth was watering all through the video. I'd go to the ends of the earth for a challah kugel like you made. Very very nice video. So enjoyable. Loved it.

No never complain if they clean! Enjoy
Tqvm Jamie. Truly appreciate this recipe

Jamie thank you for this amazing recipe my family loved it!
I live in a very shiksa country (guess) and it was a joy to watch the three of you. The kugel looked great. Thanks for sharing the recipe and fun.
Thanks so much for the nice comment
It reminds me of stuffing for thanksgiving. I love stuffing! This looks really good!
Yeah, it is very similar.
So glad it worked well for you.
I love that Rabbi!!! ❤❤. He’s a “People’s Rabbi”.
Great recipe! Since I live alone I end up with a lot of extra bread. This would be great to use up old bread!
Rose Singer Totally, enjoy.
So delicious looking am sure it tasty I can wait to try it.
Jamie, have you thought of doing a video on reheat/setup for Shabbos? For those of us that didn't grow up with this, it would help.
mcomeslast I love the idea thanks for the suggestion. To clarify do you want to know about reheating foods for shabbos lunch or setting the table or what exactly? And guess what? I didn't grown up this way either :-) We will try to work it into our production schedule as soon as we are able (but note it could take us some time).
A lot of chat for a standard bread pudding, but it does look pretty dang good
I like that your husband is with you in the kitchen
He likes the kitchen, but he does not like the camera
I would take the challah crusts and spread a little butter on this for a snack. My compliments to you for this recipe.
Thank You very much, I also learned this recipe from my Grandparents. But If I may add, you can add some fresh lemon juice if you want and dice in some tiny pieces of apple. Yummy. My family has passed down a loaf pan. It’s mine and I use my grandmother’s recipe the is kept with the pan so they are not separated
I wish I could like this video again ... Your amazing Mrs.Geller.. xoNicole..
Shalom! Your friend sounds South African! Is he from South Africa?

Haha, I don't have curly hair but I do love the crusts.
I made your challah recipe and it turned out great!! Thank you so much for all you do!
I watched with my partner and I laughed so hard and she just didn't get what I laughed at we tried it and loved it
Turkey stuffin' without the turkey. I love it.
Yay
Made this tonight with roasted chicken. 1/2 whole wheat and 1/2 regular challah. I saved bread for a few weeks. So good, there is chicken and roasted pumpkin leftover but no Kugel :(

Second thought, this looks amazing! I so want a slice! :P
Rabbi is toooo funny 😄
yuk, yuk, yuk rebbe - you're a regular comedian

I love to keep the crust in the kugel.
actually I learned in chumash that kugle is hinted to in parshat behaaloticha when it talks anout the maan beacause the pasuk says the maan was kiagul, like it was round. kiagul is the same shoresh as kugle, and that is where we learn kugle in the parsha.

Yes, it's better when they are stale and then you soak them, so they absorb better. You can use any bread you have leftover
at first, I didn't notice that you have another sink in your kitchen, so you can scratch that last comment. I only saw the one sink. So, you can disregard my comment from before. My only comment now is that it looks "icky" with the sponge when you are squeezing the liquid out of the colander.
Sandi Beach Yes, I was going to say that I had two sinks in this kitchen.
I know this is 3 years old, but I felt compelled to say its pretty shady to be looking for problems with Jamie's kitchen in a video sharing a RECIPE. Like you felt you HAD to comment with something to criticise her about. Try looking for things to compliment instead.
The crust is the best part of the bread.
I am not sure what happened, I didn't mark it as spam or delete it, but it seems to have disappeared. Sorry.
Hi Jammie!
Pleased to meet you. Um, I don't think your video disappeared; because I just viewed it
Challah pudding is also a good idea
Sure, how would it be different? Like Stuffing?
Lol, no! Not like stuffing! Like a pudding, same consistency. You make an egg pudding and add pieces of challah.
There's plenty of recipes for bread pudding; replace the bread with challah and there you have it.
Is there a recipe for a zucchini challah?
Not yet!
Why would you dry out the challah bread and then pour water over it? Also, the seasoned breadcrumbs are not a binder. The eggs are the binder.
Kugel means bullet in german, in dutch kugel sounds like kogel also a bullet
I just started watching this video but need to tell you that I, too, am anti-whole wheat!!!
Great recipe, enjoyed the interaction, however the zooming in and out and back and forth of the camera made this hard to watch. Camera should have stayed so the whole cooking area could be watched ....
Yes, totally agree.
According to British Legend, eating the crusts on bread Weill give you curly hair

ערב טוב ג'יימי, אשמח אם יהיה גם תרגום לעברית. תודה.
challah will never last for few weeks....challah french toast for sunday breakfast...
***** Yes, that is heavenly.
+MrLinushka challah is jewish brioche, just like gefilte fish is jewish quenelles. the challah kugel could use some honey whipped cream on the side, that would be very british and totally dairy -- but i think i might use schmaltz instead of oi to brown the crust of the kugel. that bumps it up a notch or two!

the puns are strong with this one
bread crumbs are your filler the eggs are your binder
Kugal is from the word, k'igul.
LOL; tweet others as I like to be tweeted! :P
why didn't she serve the rabbi first ?
A bread pudding! Um
Tell the Rabbi that we don't eat eggs with blood spots because us Jews don't eat blood. Hence we kasher our meat! :)
I also was told it was because then the eggs wouldn't be parve
That man sounds like he knows more to do what with his pronunciation than he does his wife LOL tell him to start taking a whole bunch of DHEA before I find where you live
Lol thought that's funny too :)

I leave my crust
kooshkack Does make it easier, will have to try it. Thanks.
So many Jewish don't have so many....
so much yapping
Good grief stop talking over the man doing the cooking!
Oh, no, crust.... :|
the rabuni looks arabic
Why are you stalking Jamie? You never have anything useful to contribute.
Tell your the Rabbi to go home to his wife help her in the kitchen and dont study the Talmud that much

bread pudding for the masses
Did the Rabbi say hell yeah or Chall yeah? Lol😂
