This video saved me in a pinch! I have a set of 2 inch "lift" 5 piece leaf springs and I was sitting here thinking I needed to do a whole bunch of fab work to make this work and then purchase Ubolts, but if I'm understanding what you did was a "shim", or "spacer" in between the perch and leaf spring to accept the top of the bolt that pokes through the leaf spring, then used the square tubing to mount the mono leaf shock mount so it sits flush, and you were able to do it without getting Ubolts
aribadanchi you got it. I used square tube to shim the plate and I bought new longer grade 8 bolts to sandwich it together as my axle didn’t use u bolts.
@@JakesShop ok my 67 doesnt have any either, I know detroit speed makes the exact kit you made but I'm in s time crunch and cant wait for them to ship it lol, but I'm pretty sure you can run ubolts on a 67 but they 8 grade bolts are probably a little stronger
Ive used a torch to remove the bushings, yeah its messy and it stinks but the new ones were two piece and pressed in by hand, worked fine on m lifted1990 YJ jeep.
Restoring my 1968 Camaro and had the same issue replacing leaf springs.Put the standard leaf spring and it sat to high.Looks same as yours. So we added weight to the rear the re adjusted and still not much difference. Definitely ordered the 2 inch drop spring with tires 295/60 R 15 and it sits nice.2 in clearance above tire.
Hello, question for both Jake, and the guy who started the question on ride height. ideo was informative thanks, but I would like to know if the ride height changed going from old, maybe single leaf to new multi leaf. If so, by how much... based on normal load of the car. Did either of you end up lowering the rear to taste? Thanks again.
Adam Gutierrez I’m not fully complete yet so verdict is still out for me if I’ll need lowering springs. It all depends on tire size and the look your going for. Mono leafs especially older ones do sit very low. Much like a 2” drop multi leaf spring. Most leaf springs I’ve had do settle down over time.
2 months into driving my 68 Camaro with the 2 inch drop and 60 tire.Issue I am have at this moment is tire rub.I finally got on the gas pretty hard and tires rub.I should of went with 1 1/2 inch drop
you skipped the whole part about the square stock space fillers.. and how it mounted to the axil.... Not to helpful unless you need to know how to hammer in a bushing.
Also I have 10 inch replacement shackles which were advertised to add about 4' inches of ride height I was wondering if you have the same ones on the rear or dealt with them?
aribadanchi the car came with some sort of aftermarket shackle. Not sure what they are but they are adjustable. The new leaf springs I put in are a little high so I will most likely be going back down to the lowest setting at some point when the car is assembled and I get an idea of where things settle out.
@@JakesShop ok I'm going for the 70s street machine look so the higher in the back the better, the leaf springs will add a little bit more ride height and I know shackles add alot depending on which ones you get, I'm trying to run big tires with tubbing the car and running a 4 link
aribadanchi I’m betting the ones on my car are the 10” shackles. They have 3 holes on the lower side for optional ride heights so I’m betting that’s what your after then. I do love that look as well.
Geoff in my opinion it is easier if it does you could always cut the purchase off and add the correct ones which is a lot more work. In the video the purchase were off a mono leave car so I modified the upper bushing to except the multi leafspring
@@JakesShop I am trying to do the same thing on my car. Did you use a 4 leaf or 5 leaf? Also do I need to use a multi-leaf shock mount? I can't see the other side very well
Real&Relative that is a very good question. I used the mounting plates that came with the axle but since they were a mono leaf perch in the stock axle i used mono bushings and built shims to fit the multi leafs in properly. The shock locations are fine. However the official way would be to cut off the perches and weld on multi leaf perches. I believe they were 5 leaf springs and could go check if it’s helpful for you. Hope that answers your question.
Thanks for the videos, I'm building my 68 camaro as well. I'm not as far along as you are, but not far behind you either lol. I'll be doing leaf springs next and this video helps me a lot. Check out my videos, like and subscribe if you like them as I'll do with yours
Joe. It’s just a standard multi leaf spring pad bushing kit. But I had to modify them and made my own custom shims to make it work with the springs I had. Depending on the leafs you have it may be different.
You need the msd 6ls box and you need the wire harness that plugs into the coils. Remember, you will still have to "tune" your timing for your coil packs.
It’s upright!! Your shop is amazing Jake!

Joshua Garvey hoping I don’t have to but yeah, we’ll see. I don’t mind a little of that rake look but this may be too much :)

Joshua Garvey yeah. You might be able to get away with a longer rear spring Peach. Mine are adjustable.
Did some nice work there looking good
I watched it to see how to install the leafs which you skipped altogether.
Hey thanks a lot for the video really helped 👍

@@JakesShop yeah most likely same ones if not close, the ones I ordered have 4 holes I believe each one giving you an inch of height
Nice video
👍👍👍
have you ever tried a single leaf a coil over shock deal (combo)?
tom ashton no I actually haven’t....
If I was planning on doing a multi leaf conversion a AND was going to replace my rear end, should my rear end have the multi leaf perches?

What’s the part number on the kit??

How do I hook up my MSD box in my 1968 firebird with a LS1 motor in it
Milton Catching. If it’s not an ls msd box you can’t. If you want to run a carb setup on an ls you can always check out the msd ls6 kit.
You need the msd 6ls box and you need the wire harness that plugs into the coils. Remember, you will still have to "tune" your timing for your coil packs.
