Here we are together, at the end of an era. With "Bonfire (A Rest)" hailing as my final Dark Souls song, it felt appropriate to pay tribute to the serene melancholy of gathering around a flame and resting while bumping into other travelers of the same need. Somewhere along the way, it turned into a ballad of friendship and comradery, much like an end-of-the-year holiday gathering among old acquaintances. I suppose this is about as seasonal as a Dark Souls song could be! I've even gone and edited in a little extra holiday cheer.
Thank you all for being here with me on my journey through these transitory lands.

Yeah, I think that's very much a theme of the game. It might feel like you're alone with a daunting task, but if you just look around you'll see that there are many others who are going through the same thing as you, and while they can't do your work for you, they'll provide what help they are able.
If you had to face them alone, they would be called "duels", don't you think?
This is not only a ballad for Dark Souls and it’s ambiguous beauty, but a ballad for the die-hard Aviators fans that hear all the references to previous songs in the lyrics 🥹🥹
So many references, all fit perfectly in the song and sound so natural. I love it and I felt really happy my first time listening, when I heard all the bits from other songs. 😂

This was probably my favourite track from Modern Mythology; It gives off such a distant, happy feeling, that is rarely found in Souls which gives it all the more power.

I love how this song frames those fleeting moments of rest, you stop to level up, equip yourself, plan where to go next or just to breathe. And then around you, you see other players who, like you, are resting from the battles that we all try to overcome, strangers who remind you that you are not alone, fellow travelers with unknown names who through messages or jolly cooperation in combat, will accompany you on the adventure.
In the end we will always gather together around the bonfire.🔥

This song almost brought me to tears with a smile on my face. It made me remember all my good times playing Dark Souls
Quite the send-off for the series, a song to share the delights we all had at the same bonfires dozens - hundreds - of times. Trials both in a game and in life, finding out respite in the comfort of strangers who'd never know our story and we'd never know theirs as for a brief moment we shared our rest at bonfires between the roughest of times before some of our greatest triumphs.
So, fractured and feeble - ordinary people - how about a little more jolly cooperation in the shadows of gods, lands long forgotten, and at the ends of time? Till we meet again at a bonfire!

Whether standing against as invaders, helping as friendly phantoms, or leaving silly or helpful messages, we all fought our fights together or at odds, we all deserve a bit of respite from the danger and darkness.
I’ve loved this songs since I’ve first heard it, truly touches my heart and soul
God, this feels so inspiring, but so melancholy at the same time. Darksouls may be at its end, but it paved the way for a legacy that will last decades. Sit with me fellow undead, and bath in the golden light of the flame, among comrades and brothers.
One thing I can always count on with Aviators' songs... is how much he harkens back to his previous songs by adding nods to their titles in the lyrics. Moreover, I can always count on his amazing talent that never ceases to captivate and amaze...!
Seeing all our favourite characters sat around a Bonfire: Artorius and Sif, Ostrava, Sigward and Shanalotte, makes me realise how many amazing people (and animals) that were in the series even if one of them was corrupted by the Abyss and tried to kill us and one was something we had to kill even tho we didn't want to. The music is so beautifully made, thank you Aviators, for bringing us such masterpieces.
It gives me the feel of a cliffhanger, but one that is welcome. I feel it's our turn to continue these tales, whether through writing, listening, even playing the games. Thank you, ser Aviators, for giving us this final rest stop before taking diverting paths.
I know this is a Dark Souls song but my mind can't help and think of other works of fiction being thrown in.
Like the fallen warriors in Skyrim.
Or the force ghosts of StarWars.
And all of this fictional dead people finding companionship at the end of their time around a final bonfire before they make their final passing.

On another note, I love the little changes added to the video specifically, like the bonfire sound effect at the beginning, and the sleigh bells at the end. I don't think I have heard you do any songs in this style before. But to be honest, I think this might be one of my new favorite songs that you've done. It's about - peace and camaraderie. Always something everyone could use more of.
And it's especially fitting, considering tomorrow is the winter solstice - the darkest day of the year, and well, this song helps best back the dark.

I've loved this since I heard it in Modern Mythology. It's such a fitting song for Dark Souls' characters, the player's or the non-playable. Most of the characters have some sort of hope and driving force, and want companionship in the harsh world. Most of them don't have lofty self-ambitions. They just want to set the world right. And you can even see the ripple effect of one's companionship. No matter where you are in the Souls universe, you can always count on there being a bright sun for you to praise. Thanks Solaire, for never giving up on us.

First heard this song in 2023. It inspired one of my favorite D&D characters. A man who traveled the stars, drawing the constellations and burning the pictures to send to his deceased wife. Fulfilling a promise she made when she was alive and sickly. That he would show her the constellations up close.

I can't help but to think of the Christmas Truce of World War 1, where soldiers of both camps stop fighting for the sake of celebrating holiday together, far away from their home and families, knowing deep inside that they will be at each others throat again soon enough. Beautiful.

This perfectly encompasses the feel of the Dark Souls world. Normal people risen from the dead by forces beyond control, living in a hopeless and doomed world. There's no possibility of a "good" ending, but a few determined individuals press on all the same. Sometimes, they find company in the meager light of the bonfire, and share a moment of something reminiscent of happiness.
A wonderful piece. Hearthwarming jet still fitting for the DS franchise with its text. ^^

As someone who first heard of you through Song Of The Abyss, seeing Sif and his master seated so peaceful by the fire brings a smile to my face. Whatever you may do in the future, whether dark souls or not, we hollow, chosen undead and ashen ones shall follow you to the end

Truly an amazing end to the era of Dark Souls songs. Plethora of references I enjoyed listening in this song Bonfire "A Rest" like Fading Light, Angel of the Dark, Let there be Fire, Incandescent. I can go on but, certainly a treat for the Bonfire "A Rest" to deliver a distant, but happy feeling that there is hope somewhere in the long journey ahead.
I'm looking forward to see what you have in store for 2023, especially if your taking on more of your Bleeding Sun saga stories in song.

I love that the art represents every Souls game with the characters: Artorias and Sif representing DS1, the Herald and the Cat for DS2, Siegfrieg of Catarina for DS3. And, of course, what seems to be the fluted set from all the way back in Demon Souls.

Thank you for everything, Aviators. This song brings out a lot of positive nostalgic emotions. I'm currently 18 years old, and I was in love with both the Dark Souls series and your content since i was around 13 or 14. Recently I've made a decision to quit videogames to pursue my own goals outside the virtual world, and this song symbolizes this decision so much. I'll be forever grateful for the fun I've had playing these games, but it is time to have a final sit at the bonfire and move on.

I imagine the various Soulsborne protags all being drawn together by the familiar lights, coalescing in this forest. The Tarnished bringing some raw crab to boil, the Hunter and Sekiro playing music, the Ashen One and the Chosen Undead sharing stories of their exploits, the Cursebearer just glad they aren't the only one caught in a power struggle.
All of them, singing this song together around the light, and forgetting about their struggles for a while. Sharing in their little moments of happiness. Because that's really all we can do, before we push on.
