I just wanted to let you know that I lost my brother unexpectedly to a brain aneurysm a week ago today. He was 56. It was a very emotional and exhausting week. I watch all of your videos and the John Deere episode helped me think about something else and even laugh! So thank you for all you do. Your videos go much deeper than just car restorations. I have been upholstering for 57 years. The next time you do any upholstery in vinyl . On the back section spray the foam with silicone to help th corners to slide down easier. The ,last thing that you can do to make. It easier and more professional heat the corners of the vinyl with steamer or a heat gun to make the vinyl easier to st r etch over the corners . You did a great job but with that little bit of knowledge I just shared with you it could be flawless. No wrinkles and corners tight. Awesome job fora beginner. Love watching all of your videos.

My Dad had a upholstery shop in Western Kentucky for 50 yrs and he always used silicone spray or thin plastic on the corners to let them slide on. He also had a steamer but a feller could use a hairdryer to get the same results. Its amasing how it takes the wrinkles out once you get the material hot and stretch it. Great tip!!

And doing custom interiors and upholstery is always overlooked and as you said, it’s getting harder and harder to find the guys like my age that are still doing that learn the hard way, not just buying and installing kits. We appreciate you mentioning the guys that never get any credit
Derek you should make your own “build sheet” and put it behind the seat or something so when the new owner gets the rig it will have something personal from you and for the truck

I had a 92 Ford F-150 Blue step side and it had roll up windows. Around 2000 I picked up my neice and was taking her to town. She asked how to roll the windows down. I showed here then she said wow those are cool is that a new invention! I’ll never forget that.
Next up. Introduce her to the rotary phone and check the disbelief on her face as she struggles to comprehend it!

But notice how respectful he is of the boys. He never is negative to them, always positive. He lets them do as much as they can and interjects positive comments to help when he needs to. And he always says "good job !". People can learn how to get a rig up and runnin' from him but they can also learn how to raise kids with respect.

Derek - tip for you and others doing upholstery work. Drape some thin plastic (2-3 mil) over those foam cushions before sliding new seat covers on. There's a lot of friction between the foam cushions and the foam on the underside of the new covers. They'll slide on like butter. Also, lay those new covers out in the sun on a warm day to soften them up just before installation. Same with the new carpet kit. Lastly, use a heat gun VERY carefully to warm up any wrinkles after the covers are installed, and use the palm of your hand to "iron" them out. After owning a classic auto upholstery shop for 45+ years, I've learnt a few things, and still learning. I love your tips about using the carpet protectors as a replacement for the door panel moisture shields, and the heated-up punch for making bolt holes in carpet. Gonna do that next time.....

I want them to design a vice grip garage edition flannel seat cover for like the square body trucks bump side Ford trucks with the vgg logo in the center of the seat cover i think that would be really neat!! Maybe a special trim and gold metallic thread version for Remington the vgg 4spd farm truck

Every time I watch you , it brings back all the memories of when my dad was still alive it's almost the 1yr anniversary of when we lost him to cancer. He was a truck driver and once I got him watching vgg no matter how far he was we were always watching together and having a good laugh . Thank you for everything you do because atleast with my Dad he had something to help get his mind off of dying. You guys have no idea how much these videos mean to me.

One of the things that makes your channel so enjoyable to watch, is that it doesn't take 6 mo's worth of episodes to complete what you have accomplished here. It's far more preferable to watch without leaving a guy hanging weeks at a time before seeing how it's done, and gratifying to see the end results. I'm not even a ford guy, although this turned out so nice that I'm going to enter right now by purchasing some merch. for a chance that just maybe... I could own this 'ol rig. Thanks Derek.

Derk, here from South Africa. We had a 79 shortbed with the 300 cid motor. The 3 on the tree were swopped out for a 4 speed toploader box. I went home from the hospital in 1963 in a Ford, a 1960 Zepher (British Ford). Still driving a Ford, a 2018 Ranger 2.2l turbodiesel singlecab with a sixspeed manual gearbox.

My 9 month pregnant wife says the rig should be two tone blue and white... Yeah, I know, it's a little bold, but a guy doesn't usually disagree with a pregnant lady. 😄 All jokes aside, we're 27, married since 21, living in Minnesota, this will be our first baby and I'm so excited to introduce them to working on rigs like I do.
I've been watching your videos since I got out of the Army a few years ago, used to be a mechanic in the Army, have an office job now, but still really enjoy wrenching on things. Thanks for bringing us along for the ride Derek and family!

Derek, you know what you're building? A tribute truck to Denver Pyle, aka Jesse Duke. As soon as I saw this truck, I immediately thought of him cause this is what he drove on The Dukes of Hazzard. You need to leave this white and basic just like his truck was. I understand the upgrade you want to do on the gauges, but the dentside Ford trucks have such a unique gauge cluster, it'd be a shame to change them. But keep up the good work and build up that 300. Hopefully, I be able to get my 65 Thunderbird done soon so I can take it to one of the car shows you frequent. It's be cool to meet you and your family.

I just started watching your channel about two weeks ago. Really like the revivals where you then drive hundreds of miles home. I ran out of those videos so I watched the original F100 videos from like two years ago. It's great timing that you're back on this truck again recently. This thing is a gem, glad you're putting money into it!
My first vehicle was a 76 F100 Custom that was an old highway maintenance truck. Orange and rusty. A fellers grandfather bought it for him at a state auction and taught me how to turn wrenches. It was real nice by the time we were done. Was three o the tree but I begged my grandfather to put in a hurst speed shifter with a T-handle on the floor. Loved it!

My wife and I did almost exactly the same thing (except for digital dash) to "Obie", our 1978 Full-size 4WD Bronco about 20+ years ago! Ours sported a 350-M (350 "Modified") V8 engine. This episode really took me back... Thanks Derek for a great project!

Cuz I too suffered from a broken drive retainer years ago, to keep it from falling off, clean the stub well and giver a single wrap of black or red electricians tape. Red goes well with your red driver equipment shown. It keeps it on and works for a long time. Works like a charm. Then re-wrap it when you have to. Best of luck.

You get me jacked up every time to get going on my projects. The F100 especially, I inherited a 1963 F100 that my granddad bought new in 63. Long story short, it hasn't run since before 1995 when my dad passed. Two (?) years ago it would still rotate with a socket on the crank. Just got to get going on it. Looking forward to watching the rebuild on the 300 to get ideas on the 223 in mine. KEEP UP THE CLEAN HUMOR! I like it when I don't have to worry about what might come out of a you-tubers mouth. A feller can use #9 galvanized wire from Tractor Supply or Atwoods on that seat back to hog ring your seat cover to the other side of the seat cover. Buy a whole roll. You can use if for so many things. Fixing fence, your seat back, make hooks to hang stuff around the shop, etc..... We used it all the time on my dads ranch.
I love this truck. When I was a kid my dad had 2 77 f100. A blue and silver race truck and red and silver mud truck. Memories are great of those vehicles.
Love those trucks. Had a 79 F100, Custom, Straight 6, white on blue as my first vehicle. The bed was cottage cheese, but I loved that thing. Love what you’re doing to this one!!

I grew up helping my Dad in the garage...love seeing your boys in there with you, and Jessica of course! My first car was a '71 Ford Maverick, automatic, 302 V8 (blue of course) and for the most part, I did all my own motor cranking myself - I was always a tomboy, so, it seemed a natural thing to do. Sure wish the wing windows and hand-crank windows would return; also the ability for a fella or fell-ette to get greasy if they want to without all the computerization of everything. This truck would surely be super to own. Love your detailed demonstrations/explanations and Derek-isms! Uff-da!
I used POR15 fuel tank sealer and im happy with it. My John Deere 620 fuel tank was completely rotted out. I went over the giant vent holes with fiberglass sheets and resin and got it pretty good and then sealed it the rest of the way with POR15 tank liner. Im happy with how it turned out!
Awesome work Derrick! If I had to use the 6 cylinder.... I'd do seats, guides, valves, bowl and port work, forged flattop pistons with 9.5 to 1 (pump gas friendly), roller cam, an intake and header, 3 inch single exhaust in the stock location, and Holley injection. Put a 5 speed in it and a 3.50 rear gear.

Grew up in PA our old ford tractor had calcium filled tires, got the 3 bottom plow stuck on a root and almost flipped her over... wheely bout 3 ft off the ground glad nothing broke when the clutch was pressed ... Great way to grow up, the Manure shoveling ... I could have done without!! Nothing with wheels would fit in the barn with the way my dad built it!! He should have shoveled all the manure spreader loads!! I am sure you know how that goes!! Love the whole family being involved, One of a kind show!!

A little tip for a lone wolf test light-
Sometimes when I have to test for power to a connector that's far from the switch or out of line of sight I use my lone Wolf test light. It's just a door buzzer from under the dash of a 70 Chevy connected to wires with small alligator clips on the ends. With that I can test for power and just listen for the buzzer. It's great for testing for power at a fuel pump connector. For something like that I just clipped the alligator clips to a couple of paper clips and how it has connector probes.
By the way I love what you're doing with the truck!
I inherited the twin of this truck in 1988 from the family of my deceased buddy, Tom. He bought it new and drove it all over Colorado and California. I used it for a couple of years and fell in love with that 300 6cyl with 3 on the tree. I passed it on to a family member in need of reliable transportation....wish I had it back. It's probably still running.
I love the both VGG and Roadworthy Rescues, but I love the freedom and depth you get from VGG. Keep up the great work!

Hey Derek, just a little method you may find useful for dealing with rust - Ospho - It's basically dilute phosphoric acid and it converts all that rust to phosphate layer that can be painted. Same ingredient as those rust converting primers I think. I find it easier than mechanical removal, just splash on with a brush a let it work.
I really liked the editing touch of the fast-forward of all the bench seat hog rings being done and then catching up with the narration.
Love how clean and simple the interior is Derek! The modern conveniences of new vehicles is nice, but there's something to be said for more simpler days....
Just got my hat and shirt. Only the second hat in my 58 years that actually fits my 5 gallon bucket head. Was just about to throw the shippong box away and was like why they put this bubble wrap in here and lo an behold I get a autographed fuel gauge. Made my day. Puttin my wagon in front of the horses but have already priced out a vintage air system cause hopefully that Wimbleton white F100 is comin to Jax Fl an it sure can get muggy down here. Seeing this brings back few memories, learned to drive in a F-250, 390cid wit a granny four speed! We pulled a four horse slant goose neck trailer. Good ole days!but now all I drive is chevolets!!!
I always hog ring a layer of Burlap on top of the springs to help keep the foam in place and stiffen up the set. And I also found putting a one inch of cotton on the top of the foam. It’s nice to sit on top of the set . That way you don’t feel like you’re sitting in a bucket.

Love your channel! just wanted to give you a hack for stretching seat covers head rest ect. put 30 gal. white trash bags over side and corners of seat then pull seat covers down. Then you can pull bags out once covers are in place.

I got to thinking about this over the weekend... You tell us, Derek, that "I know you guys have seen this a million times..." on several things you did on the interior, but I got to thinking thats EXACTLY what I love about projects like this. They are all slightly different, but all equally enjoyable and no matter how many times I see them I learn a little something new each time. Not gonna lie, the giveaway project are hands down my favorites, daydreaming of having a fun and decent ride to play with. :)
I absolutely love this build. It reminds me so much of my first truck a 74 f100 ranger and it was originally white with blue interior and someone primered it. Keep up the amazing work. Go with the white and blue interior. It's so timeless. My pops had a 66 Mustang. A real daily driver with the inline six that was in Ford's white exterior and blue interior, which may influence my opinion. The white/blue is so humble. On an older truck or car, it just says, "put miles on me, let's get some work done, I like running errands and going to the drive in.

Oh now I'm dating myself but I bought that truck brand new.
Just so happens Im redoing a Firebird interior. 86, fortunately I found no rust holes. GM sure loved plastic clips that break when you look at them funny. 😂 and of course there are alot more bends, twists and things to go around in a third gen F Body, but I learned the hard way years ago to be very careful cutting.
I like the white. I have a 2000 F150 white I purchased in 2002, She is still a great truck. If I win it I'll use it to tow my boat to the lake. I live between St. Catharines and Port Colborne in the Niagara area, so I can fish Lake Ontario or Lake Erie and sometimes the Niagara River that are not too far away. I love watching your Videos, always fun to see you with your family doing what you do best.

Kinda new to the channel, and love the videos I have seen. They are both entertaining a educational. The burning the holes in carpet to find and install bolts through carpet is a stroke of genius that once I saw it, I thought to myself, "duh, why didn't start doing that long time ago". I work on mobility vehicles for handicapped and disabled drivers which I often an installing accessories, dual battery systems, power inverters and in-vehicle lifts which frequently require installing hardware in the floor. Yes, I did the whole use a razor blade thing which is time consuming. Not anymore thanks to you.

On the side windows, replace the felt and rubber on all four sides of the windows, WD-40 the mechanisums, and the windows will role up and down like new.
