    Wow so glad this video popped up. I’m US hubby is Korean citizen. We just immigrated back to Korea late 2022 to live our best retired life. This is my 3rd time living in Korea. Did 2 DoD tours here before. We are looking for a single family home to buy. We are cash payers also. Very helpful info. Thanks!

    Four bedroom apartment-condo-home is extremely ritzy, TheVariedLife. The 'old school' individual identification stamp for property transactions might be old school; but surely, such an identification stamp would prevent confusion in the USA.

    Is there places outside camp humphreys where tourists can go? Are there some nice food courts/restaurants where the public can go around there?

    • @theVariedLife
      @theVariedLife  Год назад +1

      Yes there is. Right outside the walk-in gate there is Rodeo street which is a walkway with restaurants, coffee shops, shops, bars, etc. Geared toward military but lots of visitors too. They have lots of local fairs and events there too.

    Thanks for the video. Curious, was there a reason you withdrew cash and paid on cash rather than just wire the money directly to the seller’s bank account?

    • @theVariedLife
      @theVariedLife  7 месяцев назад

      Good question. When the realtor heard that we were buying all cash she told us that we could bring the money to the closing. because that's what the seller wanted. The Korean bank said we couldn't deposit and withdraw that large amount of money because our account was so new (didn't make sense but whatever). So we kept the money at home till the closing date. Apparently buying and paying in cash is a thing here in Korea. They can do wire transfers but many older Koreans like cash as was the case with the seller.

      thanks for the reply. I am in the process of trying to purchase an apartment here also and was thinking maybe I could get a better exchange rate by taking cash (dollars) to a money exchange versus the exchange rate provided by Korean bank wiring funds directly to the seller. Anyhow, thanks for sharing your interesting story.

    Hi. I’m veteran using VA with 100%. Any suggestions for those that need to use VA ? Thanks !

    • @theVariedLife
      @theVariedLife  5 месяцев назад +1

      There is no VA clinic in Korea, closet VA clinic is in the Philippines. With that said, you can get treatment at civilian hospitals, pay for the treatment, then file a claim with the VA to get reimbursed later.

    I understand you have a car so I guess retirees can own one there. Do you have Sofa plates and what about gas. Can you buy it on base?

    • @theVariedLife
      @theVariedLife  9 месяцев назад +1

      If you have a visa then you can buy a vehicle. We do not have SOFA plates because retirees are not covered under SOFA. So our vehicle is registered in Korea then we went on post and applied for on post registration so we can drive onto the base. As for gas you can buy it off post but its more expensive but as retirees with post registration you can buy gas on post.

    Hi. How do you maintain U.S. citizenship by living in South Korea. Do you have someone rent your apartment - or house in the United States. Just curious how you do it ? Thanks

    • @theVariedLife
      @theVariedLife  4 месяца назад +1

      Good questions. You don't have to do anything to maintain your US citizenship. Living or working in a foreign country on a visa does not do away with your citizenship to your home country.
      We do not have a house or apartment in the US so no need to rent it out. We sold everything and moved to Korea. If I did have a house in the US I would turn it over to a property management company and rent it out that way.

    1565 sq ft, 4 bed, 2 bath size is fantastic for just the two of you. Looks like new construction too. How's the soundproofing and the thickness of the drywalls?

    • @theVariedLife

      Soundproofing is great. Walls are concrete and insulation Apartment was built in 2016 so it’s pretty nice. Double pane windows and in floor heat is great.
