  • Camp Humphreys is building up to be the largest military installation outside of America and the facilities including their PX Exchange, Gym, Commissary, Hospital, VA Services, Golf Course, and Post Office to maintain your APO Address are world class. As a veteran there are so many benefits to living near a military base especially if you're disabled and want to base yourself close to the medical facilities. Retiring in Asia has never been easier for US Army Vets in Korea. It's something I've overlooked but my buddy Tad will introduce all the facilities he is using for free on base. It may just change your mind about where you'd like to base your retirement base out of

    This is the first of a series of videos about life around Camp Humphreys which will showcase how convenient, delicious, and affordable retiring in the REAL Korea outside of the city center can be. After having stayed with Tad for a few weeks near Pyeongtaek I must say I am convinced Korea is the top retirement destination for anyone wanting to retire in Asia

    It's nice seeing the perspective of what military veterans get to experience when they complete their service. I personally don't think it's worth it and cut my enlistment short but if you really love the service I say do it for the full 20 years!

      I cannot use the PX. I can go use the other stores and food court, but they cannot set up a rations account for me. So that sucks, but I can use the Hospital by using same day appointments. Basically have to treat the hospital as they're out of network and use Tricare. Pretty lame. Thought I could get a Primary Care Physician and be seen regularly, but guess not. Gyms, golf courses and everything else is free game.

    If you want base/facilities access without returning to active duty, join the Reserves. As a reservist, I have access to all the facilities and Tricare Coverage at a cheap price ($47/mo for medical and $11/mo for dental). Also, the greatest benefit you need to look into as a veteran is the Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits. Overseas, your school will be paid for plus $1800/mo BAH/living expenses for 36 months. In US, it depends on locality rate. In LA, school paid for and $3K mo in BAH/living expenses for 36 months (well over $100K in total benefits over 36 months). You used to have 15 years from separation to use the benefit, but I believe that time limit was removed a few years ago.

    • @livetravelasia
      @livetravelasia  3 года назад

      I used the gi bill while I was serving in the reserves to go to college already. In hindsight I shoulda waited cause they raised the benefit amount so much haha

      @@livetravelasia My wife never had turkey until coming to the USA while I know many who don't like it too much. In Hawaii we have a hotel in Waikiki called the Hale Koa which active duty/retired/dependant personnel can book a room. It's a lot cheaper than private hotels there. There are also cottages (usually near a beach or in a military designated camp area) where id cardholders also can enjoy a stay. I think the Armed Forces Recreation Center controls these properties. I just Googled it and there appears to be one in Seoul. Tad may make use of it one day 😊 www.dragonhilllodge.com/
