Andrew I am impressed that you even did this job. Most people that do property management would not even consider doing it because of the time and profit/loss ratio on a job like this. If we had more men doing smaller jobs like this in areas that need cleanup our communities would be a lot nicer looking. Thank you for being a good Stewart of the community.

Some people are not affected by poison ivy. I was one of them. I was the one who always got the job of ripping out vines. On the other hand, some people are really vulnerable and get the itchy rash much worse than an average case. It was a long time ago, but I recall burning poison ivy had its risks too. Check me on that one. If a dog runs through it, people who snuggle with them will get it. Most of all, just learn to recognize it and give it a wide berth. Thanks Andrew, for showing it.
I am planning to rent an excavator and a tracked skidsteer to remove the stumps where I want to build a garage, but the other areas just cover the trees with fill dirt. I will also need to use some forks to pick up most of the roots in the yard. 38 trees removed last year and now just need to clean it up. Been watching your video's and they are awesome. Keep up the good work.
You got it exactly right about the poison ivy. The five-leaved vine is commonly called Virginia Creeper and is, for the most part, completely harmless. They are, as you said, often found growing together.
+throngcleaver You're clearly forgetting about poison oak, which is what he clearly touched in this video. LOL! I have some growing on my fence in the same exact manner.
SalandFindles I live in the Midwest, and the poison oak we have here has only 3 leaves in each cluster. What Andrew touched is what Gregory Graham mentioned: Virginia Creeper. We have tons of that where I live as well.
That five leafed vine is called Virginia Creeper. As for protecting yourself from getting poison ivy rash after working in it, take a shower with Dawn dish washing soap. Removes all the poison ivy oils from your skin. Been using this for year's and have never got the rash. Great videos!
just for the record the poison ivy oil can still be active on any clothes you wore that day, for a while, and also can splatter oil on you if you cut it with a chainsaw or use a weedwhacker. ask how i know..
The five leaf stuff is Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia), perfectly harmless and a very nice climbing vine that because it climbs with "sucker pads" won't damage structurally sound masonry (unlike like english ivy which destroys walls and fences by rooting into it), great for that country cottage look. The three leaf stuff, poison Ivy (Toxicodendron radicans), Is a climbing vine too, but it destroy walls, and eventually kills whatever other plant it climbs on by rooting in and steeling nutrients and water. It will also kill all your hopes and dreams of a fun summer. The two great things about poison ivy is the winter color (dramatic reds), and it can be used to make poison ivy toilet paper for those persons' non-grata. *GRIN*
Made quick work of that for sure! Good thing that you have multiple dump truck options. That Ford is still handy for 98% of your work I bet. Hope all is well.
Oddly enough, BEER is a good expedient wash for oily stuff like Poison ivy. Add a few drops of dish or hand soap. There's both water and alcohol, and you can drink the other five from a six-pack. There are some pricey over the counter treatments. Guess what's in them? Well, a bunch of stuff. See what you like better.

My son and I are both immune to poison ivy. Working around the farm, I've been grateful many times. My wife, on the other hand, has to get a hormone shot every time she gets exposed.
