- The owner of a vegan restaurant in Oakland said he is filled with a range of emotions after his establishment was hit for a fourth time by burglars.

I agree with the owner. I think it does start in the home, by making sure the kids get a good moral foundation. Take them to a church, mosque, or synagogue, something... anything to put a moral foundation under the kids.
I think the single mom epidemic in the African American community is making that difficult. Men run off after impregnating women and single parents are forced to work multiple jobs or overtime to make ends meet. Less time with kids to discipline and instill boundaries. Kids are then raised on the streets. Not to mention schools are overburden, funding is cut, lack of after school programs…. Kids turn to young adults that turn to violence and robbery because it’s all they know. They have no good men in their life to show them there’s a better way to live
Not very easy to do considering 75% of black kids don’t live with both their parents. Single moms are working 2 minimum wage jobs and no one is forcing the kids to go to a religious place

He seems like a good person but I disagree. City Hall and the county DA have failed the people. There has to be consequences for your actions when the Governor has to send hundreds of CHP officers and state prosecutors into Oakland to do the job of local law enforcement it tells you how bad things are there. That is a leadership problem and it lies at the feet of the mayor, city council, and Alameda County DA.

From my days Stationed in Oakland until today, Oakland problems have always been the same. Poor schools, lack of interest from the Mayors office, more focus on Sports than education and policing activities to ensure a safe place to live and work. I worked on Hegenberger very near 680, and not so far from The OPD station at International and Hegenberger.
I used to ride my bicycle to Alameda from Hayward up MLK/E. 14th to the tube and onto base. I was much younger in the 80’s….
It’s all a mess now. No sports, no malls, no businesses and homeless galore.

I started at 16 working as a bus boy/ dishwasher and worked my way up to server and then Bartender. Great job to starter job. Money in pocket at the end of every night.

Won’t help as they’ll just break in when the store is closed. My family owned small businesses in central cali and it’s tough dealing with criminals. The best u can hope for as a small business owner is they break in when the shop is closed and there’s nothing to steal so you’re only losing $500-2000 for broken glass rather than much more than that or ur life

I don't want to point fingers and say, "I told you so," and then say that he voted for it. But kinda... I mean, WTF... He is right; it is everyone's fault... his... politicians... families... Law enforcement, and the judicial system in general (DAs and judges). But I don't see them solving this issue at all. I'm sorry, but I don't believe that judges who let people go free after committing crimes would start keeping people in jail all of a sudden.
I don't see criminals stopping doing what they are doing just because we ask them to stop. Why? They get easy money. They don't have to go to school or college... they don't have to get a job... They rob 2 to 3 places a week and have everything they need to live the life they want. Oh... and if you end up going to jail... they know it is for 2-3 months at best. They take those 2-3 months as paid vacation time. And they can take care of any medical issues if they need to while in jail at no cost. I don't see them stopping.

False. Once a judgment is approved by court, the landlord can seize ur bank account and garnish wages to get their money back. Unless he works cash jobs and never opens a bank account, he won’t evade paying the judgement. Trust me, the system being gained only sounds good in theory but it’s not reality
