Blender is easy. You just have to memorize 3247 different hotkeys

With Blender you can do the same thing as meshmixer, a B/W image (even color) you get an overlay that you can position as you want

this is like how normal maps work?

@Tarex_ I have tried this in blender following several tutorials, methods and approaches for about 2 weeks. it's too complicated and too difficult to get correctly.

That was really fun to watch! A great software to model functional stuff with that's affordable, powerful, easy to learn and does really "real" textures would be Rhino 3D (a lot of industrial designers and architects use it). ... and yes, I even remember AutoCad AE (architectural extension) with 3D Studio (that was BEFORE Max)... man, glad those times are over!

Glad you enjoyed it, I will take a note of rhino 3d, I have heard of it actually, I will check it out!

In blender there is a sculpt section too and it works pretty easy.

I'll have to check it out. I mean..I will have to spend time learning blender first too 🤣

Boy, I'm trying my best to find a way to texture an object, without it growing. It turns out that when you texture an object in IdeaMaker, it's an additive process that makes your object increase in size by adding the texture to the surface. I'm sure there is a word or phrase for this, but I don't know anything about these things so I'm lost. I have an architectural object that I need to texture but I do not need the object to grow in size or change any of it's sized features. I have a feeling this just made a sort of difficult task, more difficult indeed!

I'd be interested if there is a possibility to texturise my model in ideamaker and slice it in cura, because its easy to add a texture using ideamaker but I still want to use my cura profiles. Texturising is indeed a really interesting topic and I'd like to see more about it

Yeah I will definitely be looking at this area more when I've finished with this video a day shenanigans 😀

I second this, it would be interesting to see if bith can work well in unison

Just had a quick mess about and it looks like it's a no go, the texture seems not to be applied until slicing even though you can export to stl and 3mf, it exports with no texture. That's a shame, but this isn't over, I need to take some time to poke around at what the actual texture files are made of, and maybe something could be done there with blender. Leave it with me 👍

Let's hope cura will implement this one day too

You've succeded with IdeaMaker, that's better than I did! I watched several videos about it, found profile data for Ender 3 v2, then measured my gantry anyway as I have a different shroud, had a hard time making it to export gcode and in the end my printed nozzle just danced in the air without extruding. So I tried fuzzy skin in Cura and didn't like the look of it for my scarf buttons in the end. I imagined something like meridians on the button in the start but ah well.

I have got as far as fuzzy skin in Cura and drew the line there!

I'm not sold on ideamaker, its great if youyr doing something really simple, but if you have areas you dont want texture on then its unusable

yeah it's awesome until the "Texture Outside Only" option does absolutely nothing. Good luck printing anything functional with textures.
