Agree 💯 with being careful with the neem oil ratios. I've been having issues with spider mites and got overzealous with the neem oil on a cattleya once and it turned the leaf brown.
Its something I think alot of people don't realise, until they've also made the mistake themselves! I had a lovely huge vanda that I destroyed. It did try and grow some new leaves from the crown but it lost about 3ft of leaves from the stem, I was gutted. Then tried chopping the stem as I had over 3ft of bare stem between the roots and the 3 or 4 of new leaves it made. It didn't work, so I was just a terrible grower there! 😥

I hope the spider mites have been well and truly evicted now and I'm sure the plants will thrive after their lovely spa 😁. I'd love to get blooms on my cymbidium erythrostylum but I guess patience is a virtue with orchids lol. It's blooming size but taking its time! You mentioned yellowing on yours. Mine is looking a little bit on the yellow side but I'm not sure if it's due to getting some quite direct but weak winter sun for a few hours or some sort of deficiency. The roots are right down in the pot so all looks healthy there but the leaves I'm not so sure about. I'm wondering if I should move it so it's not getting any direct sun at all as I believe it's a cool grower but they like good light! It's so hard to know what to do lol.

Hi! Lots of places sell them in the UK. I picked 2 of these up in garden centres over the years, and the third at Burnham as mentioned. Spicesotic plants on eBay also always has lots! They are very easy to find 🙂
Hi Annabel I like to grow my cymbidiums in S/H also I seem to be very successful using purely lava rock it's cheaper than filling up a big pot with Leca or hydroton which is available to me here... Being that I live in Las Vegas I don't have the luxury of growing any of my orchids outside.. My greenhouse kit is being built in Canada . It won't ship till January. The concrete pad is ready I can't wait till I get it all together...

This is something I have been putting off for ageeees. I am always finding excuses not to do it. I bet that bath cleanup was nice after 😂I can't tell you how many times I have clogged the bathtub doing something similar 🙈 But it really can't be done any other way! I found that dish soap does really well against spider mites unless they are red spider mites. I also had an oil mishap. I read in one group that people use much higher concentrations than I do, and even professional growers, so I was like, what the heck, I might as well try it. I think I killed about 10 peperomias in one go. Never again. I had to wash everything again in a couple of days because the oil wouldn't evaporate. Now I am using paraffin oil and it seems to evaporate much faster.
Omg the perlite mess in the bathtub was horrific. I'm not sure if I edited it out but I collected it in a plastic bag. Luckily leca had collected in the plughole and acted as a filter, so no perlite went down the drain. Horrific, but I'd been fighting mites for so long there really wasn't another way I think. Also the amount of dead earwigs that were floating in the tub after was disgusting! I know they arent harmful to plants, but I also don't want them in the house. They used to love my greenhouse for some reason, they would get stuck in the corrugated pvc panes with no chance of ever getting out. I think many people have made the too much oil mistake at some point, It's horrible to see as by the time you realise it's already done the damage. Poor vanda and peperomias!

I see those fat spikes getting stuck inbetween the bulbs pretty often, but I never had one that decided to grow into the mother plant🤔. For me, they just push through by adjusting their thickness to the avaiable space most of the times (like an Octopus going through an insanely small hole). I've heard of that problem in a forum once and it seemed to be caused by uneven light exposure (plant on Windowsill). What is your trick to get these to flower? For me, it is "agressive" fertilising/watering in spring and summer followed by a drier period with no fertilizer in autumn until the spikes emerge.
I've been transitioning over to self watering semi-hydro (seriously we should just call this 'SWaSH') over the course of this year. I have to say it's significantly better for me, most of my orchids have loved it, it fits in better with my (lack of) watering routine. Having said that it seems as if my local IKEA isn't stocking LECA ('Odla') anymore either (in addition to those 50p pots). *grumpyface*
I hear you say at 4.20 that the Cymbidiums are terrestrial or lithophytic. Here in Australia we have 3 different species and they are all epiphytes. Silly me. Here I was thinking that all Cymbidiums were epiphytes because our local ones were. I hope you have a nice flowering from your Cymbidiums.

I tentatively said I *think* most species are- and the majority of cymbidium species are located in higher elevations throughout Asian countries, and those appear to be mainly terrestrial and occasionally epiphytic or lithophytic. You would need to look up each species individually to get a good demographic and list which ones were epiphytic, lithophytic or terrestrial. I believe the majority are terrestrial, but without doing the research myself I couldn't state that. It is a commonly referenced "fact" that I haven't had the time to thoroughly research, and this wasn't supposed to be a tutorial, background or care video, just me bathing my cymbs for winter indoors. My hybrids are NoIDs with probably a mix of Asian and Australian species in the background, and certainly grow well when treated as terrestrial rather than epiphytes.

So it’s now 10 days later and I see in all three new pointy growth. Don’t know if they’re leaves or spikes yet. It’s my first time growing Cymbidiums so we’ll see 🤗
Nope, they did very well, you can see an update later on. They're all flowering right now. Not sure why you would think they would have rotted- if you will notice, I even included an update after a few months at the end of this video 🤷♀️😅 If you don't want to watch the full video, the update is at 17:00

Yup 🤣 This was around a time I had loads of repots to do! I ordered a 40L bag, thought I had plenty, then used half for some repots and realised each Cymbidium pot I'd bought needed 20L 😆🤦♀️ Yeah you saw a full days clothes here 🤣 I started the Cymbidium bath when I got home from work, but I never stay in work clothes at home, just because we have to walk through bits of the hospital (only for lab access, nothing patient related). Never know what you're picking up though, especially now! And I love a good pair of fluffy socks, Pyjamas are my life 🤣

I potted up a small cymbidium division into a gritty lithophytic mix, but with lots of small finer material to hold a little more water.
Sounds good, if there isn't a water reservoir you will need to water very often 🙂

Roots are fine.
Spraying some black tea helps, bugs don't like the taste...learned that from Pintrest bless 'em.

I have problems with spider mite on my cymbidium too..I use neem oil and soap. It seem we can't kill them all keep coming back..😭😭
Orchids - Cymbidium orchids need drain well.

Bleach! Bleach kills all bugs and doesn't seems to bother the orchid if it's well watered before-hand.
