Hi Dani!Thank you for this new video. I received a cymbicium as a special remembrance gift in December. It has rebloomed once already. I did have one growth turn completely black almost overnight. I have since repotted. It has a lot of moss. I used bark and coconut husk. I keep mine outside. I have a hot humid climate. She seems pretty good so far. It's been about a month since repotting. She has some new growth. I will look forward to your updates on your cymbidium. I hope we both have success with them! ~Cris
Well like others I’d like to see update on this also! I just got a Cymbidium know nothing about them 🤪 so I’ll get a pot something like yours to put out on my big patio with other outside plants. I have a big collection love ferns many variety of them. Thank you for video’s always helpful 🥰
I grow mine cymbidiums in S/H and they're loving it! Indeed they drink a lot of water, so I increased the size of the reservoir. They're growing roots like crazy now they have adjusted.
Hi Danny, I was looking for an update on this video? It was 3 years ago and I am wondering how this orchid did with this self-watering system? Did it outgrow this pot? Did you repot into a larger self-watering container or change to something else? If I just missed it, could you send me the link? Thank you for your time and your awesome videos!!
I've found Cymbs do great in terrestrial mix, I keep mine in Battle brand orchid mix, with cocunut fibre, peat, medium-small bark, and a few leka beads. And they do great in it, they root like crazy, even making the plastic pots bulge and potentially brake. Also at least in my mountain tropical climate it's constantly producing new growths, I need to repot and divide one of mine actually :)
Hi Danny. Great pot. Especially for taller orchids like a taller dendrobium. If on sale grab dozens !!! Many dozens !! 😜 Nice black gloves. Breakfast at Tiffany’s 🙃
Started cymbidium. Collection and potted them in way too big pots. Do I need to repot them to a smaller pot? The plants I got are kinda like seedling size . They look happy though. I already have them for a year..
I love cymbidiums. Would be interesting to see how they do in the pon mix being such heavy feeders. I don’t grow them anymore because they can’t cope with UK winters and are too big for my house!
nice video but if i can suggest next time don't repot them during summer, usually it's better after the last flower drop, or around March ( i try to avoid repotting after May anyways). You can cut the roots without damaging the plant ( some times i cut even 2/3 of roots without problems) and it's advised if it's pot-bound . Regarding hydroponic, cymbidiums love hydro or semyhidro.
I love this video. I am new to growing cymbidium orchids. I purchased my first one this spring. I recently repotted mine into a 2 gallon container. Couldn't find a cymbidium pot in stores here and ordering one was not an option. Mine came from a grower in Santa Barbara, California. She was possibly in soil. I put her in bark and perlite mixture, with some slow release fertilizer. Yes mine is a very thirsty girl and keeps me busy watering her. Fingers crossed she rebloom for me.
Hi danni(sorry i don't really know how to spell your name) my name is Ethan Manzano and I live in the Philippines. I recently bought an oncidium taka 'dancing lady',at first I was really excited until I saw it was planted in a mixture of soil and rice husk. Then I repotted it in a charcoal, bark and seramis mixture, now my problem is since oncidiums love moisture I really cannot keep it moist all the time since I have to go to school, do you have any tips on how to water it and keep its roots moist?
I grow some Cymbidium here in Rome and the temperatures are quite high in summer and low in winter. My Cymbidium is growing in garden soil and with a specific watering regime throughout the year. The self watering pot will prove itself inadequate for the cultivation of Cymbidium as they don't need constant moisture through the year but an almost dry winter with very low temperatures (I have seen some Cymbidium flowering after being in the snow.). If you want some information on the cultivation you can try with The Genus Cymbidium by Phillip J Cribb, is an old but good book.
Hallo Danny if you ever come to Limassol i know a garden centre that sells quite big cymbidium for only 10 to 20 euros (but they don’t have flowers) yesterday i got a specimen giant Australian cymbidium for 35 euros!!!!
I grow mine in SH - S’ern Spain ... they took to it like fish to water ... I increased the reservoir to accommodate their thirsty nature ... in case the second Maxicubi is not on sale anymore ☺️😉

Great use for this kind of pot, the Cymbidium looks very elegant in it!

Pleeeease, update! The warm bloomers will love it on your patio. I have one in a lechuza pot, doing very well!
Did you use the pon?
Pon on bottom, yes
@@sarad3030 and how is it now? Still doing well?
Yes, it’s doing well. It just put out two brand new growths! I do still have to water at least once a week in a much larger pot than Dani’s.
@@sarad3030 and you have in lechuza self watering pot? And still needs watering, i'm confused

If the Cymbids. are such gross feeders, would a small experiment, taking a bit off the large plant and trialling it in the pons be feasible?

I just bought a baby cymbidium I have to research so much to make sure I can take care of it better
Does anyone know if this can do well in canada I live in zone 8
I think cyms look like grasses too. I would love to have 2 cyms for my front door 😊
Do you have any updates?

You can use the Pon as the media exclusively.
