Well-Played. I have owned 5 M30s, all 5 series cars the first of which was a US Spec 528i 1981. These engines have a real husky sound to them unmatched by the 4V stuff. I was wiping my 535is down yesterday and heard THAT SOUND behind me and sure enough, it was a 535i. Great stuff.
Wow! Paint work is gorgeous. Front spoiler make E12 look like a modern car. I want to keep my 1980 E12 520 M20 in the original style but this front spoiler make me hesitate.
I had both an E12 528iA and an E28 but I much preferred the outside shape (sloping boot and more rounded rear lamp lenses) and the beautiful interior / dashboard of the E12 that was SO ahead oh it’s time...
Hi, Alex. Yeah, unfortunately they are non-existent now. I do not know of any other rhd Solex carbed 528. I have also owned an e28 and definitely prefer the aesthetics of the e12.
@@tashreeqabrahams4428 hi, mate. I got it from an eBay seller based in Hungary. I cam no longer find the listing. I think his username was 'barkcbarn' or something. It was £200 ish.
Fred's Shed Thanks .. did you do this yourself ? The reason I ask is I have a 1979 e12 525.. I'm looking to get back on the road .. it was last driven in 1995 and has been in a garage since then . Thanks in advance
dj kmq I did most of the mechanical work - replacing hoses/cooling system, fuel pump, ignition system, belts, trim pieces, suspension etc. I outsourced the body restoration and carb rebuild. Mine had been sat in a barn since 1995 too!
@@Colintherabbit Thanks for the reply! That would be around 15,7L/100km (Metric) which equals 24€/100km. Would love to get myself an old BMW (e12-30) or Benz, but that's like the only thing that holds me back (Would be for daily drive)
@@Rowlinq_ my advice would be to buy an e28 525eta (30-35mpg) or fit a car such as mine with a 5 speed box and longer diff ratio. A 3.5 m30 engine will get 30mpg on a run with the right gearing. Hope that helps.
This is now for sale, you can find the advert on ebay and Pistonheads.
They say legends never dies..one of the greatest cars of all time..
Superb, my dad had a 528i - thanks for bringing those sweet 6 sound memories alive again.
Best looking BMW ever made.

Beautiful classic! Wow... amaaaaazing sound.
Sounds fantastic when it gets its legs stretched a bit. Camera at the rear over the exhaust would be amazing.
Woww woww 😮😮 really beautiful 😮❤
The sound
Treasure! Great car
Why can't BMW still make cars this way? Instead of all the terrible technology. I like old school BMW's only!
Bandant !! ❤
awesome. thanks
Great car man and what a sound !! ✌️
Beautiful one ☝🏿
Wow, that is beautiful! I love a clean e12, shame I pretty much never see them any more. What front chin spoiler is that?
Hi, Matt. Cheers! It's a Zender replica. Also identical to a Hartge air dam as they were made by Zender.
@@fredsshed266 hi Fred 👋 where can I order one of these front spoilers and what do they cost

Where did you source most of your parts from? I have a 77 530i looking for some stuff, specifically a fuel pump
Nick Eberling From wallothnesche.com and BMW dealer, buddy
That sound is bananas, I have an e12 520 it runs by a carburetor and how do I get that sound😲😲😲👌👌
I just put my phone in a sock and taped it to the rear bumper. Everything is stock except ss downpipe.

What are the wheel and tyre sizes?

Just wondering, but what is the average fuel consumption on a oldtimer car like this? ..L/Km
Hi, bud. It averages around 18mpg (imperial). Injection would get a few more
