My first car was a Spitfire 1500, but I always wanted a GT6, mostly because of the noise. I want one even more now, my Caterham is super fun, but it doesn't make that noise!
Regards the alignment of the front quarters you can easily bend a bit of metal (needs to be fairly heavy guage) and drill a few holes to build supports (bolt between the chassis and bumper mounting bolt, if that makes sense) which firms everything up and helps align them properly. Love the sound of those six pots and that's one of the best I've ever heard.
That is running really well, exhaust sounds good but maybe a tiny bit loud for road use for my taste, fun though and well done for getting it to run so well.
My gran had a yellow one and we used to go for Sunday drives in the country and I was fascinated by the overdrive button, shame they were as reliable as a choc teapot!
Great Sound! I have a 68 GT6+ with SU Carbs, a tubular manifold and the twin pipe exhaust. But hearing this i guess i also have to get rid of the central muffler in between..🤘🏼
Hi! The car sound stupendous! May I ask if the exhaust is a stock one? a old friend has Triumph 250 with a sports exhaust and it sounds similarly amazing! Or perhaps the microphone is placed near the exhaust? In short, does the car sound like this when driving it, windows up or down but with no acoustic enhancements etc? I too had an Inca Yellow 77 Spitfire 1500 but the GT6 always what i really wanted. Especially if sounds this good!
The exhaust note is too raspy for this car to my humble opinion. I have the aftermarket original style twin right hand side tips and it has a nice deep growl. I prefer it much more. Nice car and video!
For a few years it is fun. But I use noice canceling headphones in my spit 1500 with sportsexhaust.. I say it is for listening to music but..it is loud :-)
@@fredsshed266 is that standard on mk3, I really want to buy one but I do like the mk2 for the loovers in guard and bonnet so I was wondering does Mk3 handle different to mk2
@@beginization the backboxes are aftermarket. This mk3 had Rotoflex which I converted to CV shafts. That's the only thing I would check for. If you're buying one of these for their handling prowess, I would be looking elsewhere. You buy one for the looks and the sound, at least, that's what I did!
2000cc in the GT6 and Vitesse, but I believe the Triumph engine blocks are the same externally between the 2.0 and 2.5 inline 6; the 2.5 has a deeper sump to accommodate the longer throw of the crankshaft.
Would it be a crime to remove the stock Triumph engine from a GT-6 (store safely to keep unmolested), and implant a built Jaguar 4.2L turbo inline-6 engine with 6-speed manual?
The single best kept secret of classic british sports cars
I saw it in Croatia irl
Best exhaust note I've ever heard in my life. Period. End of discussion.

Mine was a Mk II but the exhaust note is identical. Thanks for the throwback. Beautiful car.
Had this exact car, the year and colour. (North American, left hand drive, though.) It's truly wonderful to hear it go again.
Beautiful exhaust notes, thanks for sharing!

That thing sounds stunning
Just bought a '71 -- yours is absolute music
That is a a well-sorted engine and exhaust. Thanks man! 😁👍😉
Had the same colour, Saffron. Mine was a 73, loved it shouldn't have sold it.
Oh man. That looks and sounds so good!
Nice bit of down-shifting. Lovely exhaust note. I’m very jealous!
Oh, man, this should be 30 minutes long !
fur real
I watched this video dozens of times. Please keep it uploaded

This is just a set of back boxes. Stock manifolds
Incredible...But good to know...my central muffler Must now go...😂
@@fredsshed266 black boxes?
@@collinbenzoni1121 nope. Back boxes.
@@fredsshed266 Sounds great. Who made them?
Well looks like I'll be saving a little extra on my GT6 journey, as now I'll be adding Rimmer Bros back boxes because my god does this sound epic!!!
I need one of these in my life now
That sound is magnificent!
Oh wow that is awesome !
I'm in love already
didn't know BL could make something actually decent haha
Awesome car, Awesome video. Thank you.
God these are just stunning cars, looks and sound. Beautiful example fella.
One day.
You don't ever need music with that engine note
Sounds fantastic😊
Sounds pretty amazing!
Takes me back - I had a 'K' reg with the doughnut suspension.
I loved her, but she broke my heart/wallet.
Sounds great 👍
THat's so great. Thanks for the share. This is the best sound !
Please let me play with this car !
I f*** love it !
demi-molle.
Magic sound, love it.
Sound so LOUD! 🤤😁😎
Very nice runner 👍👍🇺🇸
Holy fuck that sounds incredible
Wow!
Had a yellow GT6+, what a fun car - of course I wish I'd kept it....
Sounds lovely fred! Need to see her in the flesh at some point!
Well that's sad af

@justinellis8864 hi, mate. Yes, it sounded this good (still does). I sold it a few years back. They are rimmer bros ss back boxes.
@@fredsshed266 Thanks for replying, I'll have to get some of those ss backboxes when i find a decent second hand GT6 then. many thanks!!
dam that sounds good holy shit
What a sound!
Well I'm sold on the GT6 now

Nice car and video!
The only
pain in the butt was aligning the front wheels. There are a series of shims that have to be inserted or removed to do this. Very arcane.
Did you tune your carbs to make it crackle like that? Is it running rich?
Lovely

That noise.
Wicked bad!
Is this a full exhaust system including tubular manifold?
No, mate. Just stainless back boxes.

Is that really the factory engine? If so, what modifications, if any, have been done? I just feel like I've never heard a GT6 sound so good before
Hi, mate. Just Rimmer Bros SS back boxes, iirc. I had all history from new and there were no modifications to the engine.
You lucky bastard 🤣 wish I had that
…..got one in my back yard and a mg what’s getting a k20 now .
So I doubt if that is a standard exhaust, I don't remember them being that loud.
That would ruin it it for me , they were so refined

Rimmer Bros back boxes
sounds really good do you have an overdrive or is it non overdrive and a 3.27 diff
I put OD on it. I can't remember the diff ratio. I've sold the car now, after 4 years ownership. It was good fun.

Motor choices for a swap on this car are limited by the hood/bonnet height. Inline OHC engines especially.
