This short is spot on! We drank Hite beer with Soju and always had a great meal. The best part almost every restaurant we went to we always finished with soft served ice cream lol
Soju doesn’t taste like a spirit but drinking too fast makes it one I suppose. You’ll be fine mixing 14-20% is not much. How I know is a fun story. I’ve been to Korea for like a night 9-10 hours max and spent it in a random place drinking soju and eating bibimbap with random korean soldiers until morning. All drunk three of us seperated and I went back to catch my flight home.
I had chilled soju once after some spicy and steamy hotpot action with my brother. It was one of the best things I have ever had. Wish it was more widely available in my country.
the green bottle i’ve tried here in the states is only 13 abv and i rly wasn’t impressed. but none of the asian groceries/hmart in my area sell alcohol so i have no idea where to find better quality stuff :(
I find that last one super interesting, looking away while taking the shot to show respect. I would honestly expect the opposite, especially if i were the older one serving the shot. I am curious as to why that is the tradition. Pretty cool bit of information.
I spent nine months in Dongducheon, the most beautiful place i’ve ever had the privilege of visiting. The locals were so welcoming and made you feel right at home. 🇰🇷❤️🇺🇸
And there's couple more that I can't remember all of it. One else is to also cover up the label of the bottle you are pouring to the older person's glasses.
My favorite is mixing the yogurt flavored Soju with a glass of Cass beer. Tastes EXACTLY like a cream soda. I highly recommend it! I drink way to much of this combo when I go to my local Korean BBQ place.
Once bought a bottle of soju and drank it pretty much like you would a bottle of soda alongside dinner. It was very easy to drink. Only when my head started spinning I knew that it packed a punch.
The two hands thing was something I had to get used to real quick when I lived there 😂 that and that you never say “anyang” to an old person or they *will* yell at you
When I lived in Korea I went on a little traditional soju making tour/tasting and the traditional distilling method gets it to 100-110 proof and when I tell you I was LIT AF I mean it like wow but highly recommend it anyway the tangerine flavor smacks
Soju bottles used to have corks. I heard you spin the bottles to create a vortex containing the cork bits in the center then you slam with scissor fingers to let the swirl escape the bottle including the cork bits. Its a very effective way of removing floating cork bits out of your soju.
Ive always wanted to try this! Very hard to find where I live, but instead of being a sloppy American drinker. No offense. Im American, but I love these ways of sharing a drink with friends or family. Especially to my inlaws. I like being a neat drinker, and love these rules! Glad I found this video. It explains it all. Ps. This dude, is super cute 😍 ❤🎉

We did a joint field exercise with the ROK Marines in Pohang back in 2011- spme of the coolest people ive ever met. Went out to a bar the one night we had liberty and they had 5 dollar pitchers of soju. Shit was incredible and i got absolutely smashed. The street food is outstanding too
I enjoy learning about different drinking culture(s). We really don't have much of a culture around alcohol consumption in America. It's mostly just traditions from other cultures that we randomly choose to adopt in the moment (e.g saying "¡Salud!" when taking a shot.)
The looking away thing is for more formal settings or with older people that you're not that familiar with... When you're drinking casually you usually don't do that.
