I did a similar thing a couple of yrs age, I managed to emulate my whole BBS from the late 80's on a Raspberry Pi3b and had it connected via Telnet on the internet, but very few calls over 2 yrs so took it down.
I ran a commodore 64 bbs too before eventually moving to an IBM PC bbs.
Oh cool, I’ve always wondered. How did downloads from BBS work? What were the files able to be downloaded kept on? Separate floppy drives?
@haroldfarthington7492 I got into it right as hard drives were becoming a thing and that's where most of my memory is but prior to that yeah we did store and floppies. You basically had a terminal emulator software program and I believe the first protocol i used was Xmodem. That took care of all of the magic. Once I moved to PC if you was later I remember downloading a pirated copy of King's quest and it literally taking like all night and into the morning. Haha .
@haroldfarthington7492 by the way there's a super good BBS documentary on RUclips that's super long. If I remember correctly it's like 8 hours or something. Just search here for BBS the documentary.
@@ryanmccain1158 oh cool! I’d like to play aroujd with existing ones eventually with my win 98 pc but I dont have a modem or know of what dongle to use to mess with this stuff.
@@haroldfarthington7492 haha. I know there are a few out there still. I haven't connected to one in years though. It was a fascinating time.
Nice thumbnail
so international :) Fein!
Great job, now put heatsinks onto all those precious MOS chips before they finally burn up from 24/7 operation!
Erster! Nice, Lutz. Much work and now world domination is finally at arms length. Google will go bankrupt in a week or two and C64 is finally taking over. 8 billion new users for Snobsoft! What took you so long? Now the only thing missing is a kitten, that purrs while you pat her on your lap and a monocle.
Sooo...
