Glad I found this because my 95 Civic dx is doing the same. Actually went completely out for a week and then came back. Today it jumped to 120 and then back around to the under the 0 stopper
This happened on my 99 civic, sometimes I was able to smack it to work, & sometimes it would work after long drives, but it would erratic. I thought I would have to solder something in, but I didn't know it just needed to be resoldered like this. Gonna give it a shot & see what happens!
@@ktecgarage yup. speedos bad. needle was below pin so i had to flip it around using a magnet. since the cluster is out im reflowing the solder welds now
Same problem here, my speedo center pin dial got stuck, hope I can find a shop who knows how to repair panel gauge honda civic 1992-1995 model like you did in your video.
You're doing a nice job bro, so useful, love this model of civic, so cool and main cluster beautiful. I'm driving 1992 accord with so much fun, just subscribe to support your channel
Thank you for the support! I subbed back to you. I'm planning a quick video about this car and how well it is performing after 27 years. I also have a 2000 Accord featured in most of my videos so be sure to check those out.
Here is a link to the complete 93 Civic wiring schematic. It will let you download it PDF or just scroll through. The circuit your looking for is called VSS (vehicle speed sensor) Hope it helps. www.scribd.com/doc/109570773/Wiring-Diagrams-Honda-93-Engin
If it's this vintage Honda, I'd say it was the solder joints being cracked. You can put a volt meter on the speed sensor and spin the tire by hand to test that.
If it works sometimes or erratically, then it's probably a cracked solder joint. If I redid the video today, I would also remove the speedometer from the cluster and show the solder joints on that part as well. I had broken solder joints in the HVAC head and master relay as well. Seems to be an issue with this generation. It could also be a speed sensor, but mine was the solder.
If you take the dial assembly of the speedometer out of the cluster, you will see it has solder joints up and down each side. I would reflow them as well. This generation's solder joints crack everywhere. I had to do the main relay and hvac head joints too. Good luck!
@@ktecgarage ok ok so correct me if Im wrong. I have to take the clear cover off first and then it’s I believe two Phillips screws on the back of the cluster (where I saw you reflowed some of the first terminals). And then (if I get it off first) your saying it’s on the sides, correct? Sorry😔 I feel like I’m clueless without pictures or videos
Actually, nvm. Yeah, I had to re-solder the joints on the (black) connector cuz I had cracks on the joints. I followed the other RUclips video of this. It works now! Thanks
There are a ton of other solder joints on the speedometer too. If you take it apart, I'd reflow those as well. I wished I had shown that in this video. Good luck!
If cracked solder joints are causing your problem, then yes. The speedo should be pulled and ALL of the joints inspected with a magnifying glass. If you can bang it and it changes the way it functions, something is loose. Good luck!
You had me at PING "I wonder how important that was". 1994 Coupe owner here, working on my instrument cluster.
😁 Good luck with the repair!

If u pull the speedo, you should also reflow all of the welds around the dial as well. I wish I did that in this video too. Good luck!

There are several solder joints around the the dial if the speedo that you should check as well. Good luck!
Got into my civic this morning for work and this problem welcomed me as I turned onto the hwy.
Will check this out when I'm not hiding at work lol.
im actually picking up a 92 with this problem tomorrow. so this is helpful as hell

Thank you brother!!!
Glad to hearthe video was helpful! Good luck
Thanks man you really help me out
Glad to help!
While in use, it goes full round by itself and gets stuck at 0. It doesn't go forward. Is the problem vvs or the indicator?
If it's this vintage Honda, I'd say it was the solder joints being cracked. You can put a volt meter on the speed sensor and spin the tire by hand to test that.
Did you have to move the needle back at all because it would get stuck under the bar or did it just go back to normal when it worked?
Mine would pop back counter clockwise even when it was jammed under the stop.
I don’t understand what is happening when you heat up the solder. How does the speed know?
solder was old and cracked reheating it made a nice and smooth connection to the sensers
Mine has a delay under 20kmh, then jumps all the way up to 30/40. Any thoughts?

I soldered it and it still doesn’t work. Or could I have a different problem?

Hello my friend, I own a Honda 1993. My speedometer is stuck at 60 km. I don't know what to do to fix it. Do you have any information?
If it doesn't move even when you shut the car off, you may need a salvage cluster. Hard to say for sure. Good luck
will my spedometer work again if i just get a new one?
It is most likely broken solder joints if your car is the same vintage Honda. A new one will fix it if you can actually find one.
How much would you charged for something like this?
Eh. I only work on my own stuff so I don't ruin someone else's!
I do work on friends cars sometimes, but I always stress about it.
Does this work with the 97?

0:49 yeah, you sure you have a nice gayrage
will this work for the gas level gauge aswell?
It could. Just depends on what's broke. Good luck!
