I had the exact problem, speedometer reading very low if at all. I followed these instructions and it seems to be working now. I'm a ham hands with little soldering experience and I was able to do it. A couple things to note. When removing the cluster, the large blue connectors on the top have small clips on the top that are hard to see. Took me a bit to figure it out. Put a small screwdriver in the very top part from the front and gently pry up a bit and the connector will come right out. The desoldering part was tricky for me. Even after removing most of the solder the old capacitor was stuck. I used a tweezers and pulled down gently on the capacitor while heating to remove it. Good luck, this is the best video by far outlining the process.
Just replaced the 6.8 uf cap with a 50v one and it fixed the speedometer in my sons 1993 del sol that hasn't worked for several years now. How did you find the capacitor that was bad. Mine did have a little leakage on bottom but top was not swollen. Problem is, it didn't fix cruise. I've replaced speed sensor and then fixed speedometer be replacing the cap, but still no cruise. Light doesn't come on when pushed.
Hey there, how did you know this was the issue? My speedometer stopped working just reads 0kph. But, it used to work intermittently, after start up and driving a few meters, I would flick the cluster and the gauge would start working. I've tried replacing the VSS and the connector to the VSS, but this fixed nothing. I also don't get any CEL codes. I thought perhaps to start off by checking the signal and ground wires to the VSS, but couldn't find anywhere what how to read the signals and what values to get.
I just knew. Its 30 year old electrolytic capacitors. Even if they arnt leaking already they will be. Start here tehn work your way down the rabbit hole of electrical if it doesnt fix it.
so what was the original issue? Mine reads slowly (off by about 5-10-15 mph) depending on the temperature. I was thinking it may be the capacitors too.
Followed this and it fixed mine! It used to read about 10 mph at 60 lol. Now it works, thank you!
Glad to help! Feel free to sub for more del sol stuff and general car videos it would help me out a bunch!
Thanks for posting.
The odometer was working but speedometer was not.
After following your instructions the speedometer is working too.

Thanks for the feedback and input!
This video was a huge help. Had my del sol for a couple years and the Speedo was broken, just followed step by step and now it works great!
@@Az_-is2kt in glad it helped! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks for the video. I used this fix and it worked!

aye man we need to link up! also. i used that same song on one of my atrocities
We really do. I'm so shit at peopling though.
Do you know how to fix the Del sol Tachometer??
Whats the issue with it? It may be capacitors as well.

Inaccurate readings.
got youuu, thanks i'll order the pieces@@CorpseFreak
Thanks a lot for doing this, i ordered the part you linked then did the repair with my cousin and it worked flawlessly@@CorpseFreak
@@countblah7099 glad to help man! Now I need to do it to my own car lolol
I suck as a tripod lol but I can verify it's working just fine now
I bought a new tripod for cluster shots lol
