So many great parodies, but this was Al's magnum opus. One of the best songs of all time as the source material, and then such clever word play and story telling wrapped all up perfectly.
this never, ever gets old. it's one of a long list of weird al songs whose lyrics are now permanently resident in my brain any time the original gets played.
New headcannon: all of the Star Wars movies and TV shows are just expanded versions of Space Weird Al's bar tunes and never actually happened in-universe.
When I was little like 6 or so there was a kids music station my family would listen to all the time and they used to play this song and I even got to ask to hear the “Star Wars song” once while we were sitting outside of a Sonic and it’s still one of my core memories of being a kid singing along to this song in the car
Listened to this several times as a kid before I ever heard the original. I don't think I am physically capable of singing the original's lyrics if I tried.
thank you for this! amazing to see such a great video in high quality! palpatine as the piano man is still my favorite part of this, makes me laugh every time i see him!
Jesus Christ that feels so fucking sad when you take Anakin's life into account. Like i'm actually crying at what this guy has to go through only to save his family at the end
I was too young to watch Eps IV and V on theatres but I did watch Ep VI. It got me hooked on visuals, but the story was a bit over my head still. Then I watched the others, and I loved it. I'm not going to dis the early 2000's trilogy, I still like them. But THIS is how I remember The Phantom Menace.
This was the first video of his where I saw him with out his iconic look. I couldn't understand at time the time how good looking of a man he was! What a stud
It’s so weird remembering that this came out a week before the movie and it was such a perfect summation of the movie. Thoroughly spoiled the movie but also helped me brace for the actual movie.
Weird Al was already a superstar, but this video cemented him in pop culture. I remember TRL giving the premiere of this video the treatment and hype level they'd only reserve for Britney Spears and the like. I only wish that other artists outside the pop consciousness could have hit that level.
man Running With Scissors is one of the albums i remember most from being a kid.....that one and Dare To Be Stupid were played way too much on my discman on long car rides
I remember in elementary school a kid in my class would sing this all the time at recess. I ended up fully learning this version years before I knew the lyrics to American Pie.
While wo😂rking on my first job for a Star Wars game (dont worry it wasnt Outlaws it was Survivor) I rmb telling my colleagues that I learnt about Star Wars through this song and they were shocked. I truly think i wouldnt have gotten my job if not for listening to this song as a kid so many years ago. Thanks Al! ❤
My peers get confused every time American Pie plays on Spotify and I start singing this
When this song is stuck in my head, it's always THIS version!
don McLean has this problem sometimes too he says.
Do this at karaoke night for extra laughs. It’s like requesting Call Me Maybe and then singing the lyrics to Head Like A Hole.
As far as I'm concerned this is the correct version.
@@FugoriHassei Ok, I'm gonna need some more details lol. Format it like the _Call Me Maybe_ lyrics, but use the NIN lyrics lol. I *NEED* to know this XD
_"But their response it didn't thrill us, they locked the doors and tried to kill us..."_ This whole song is pure lyrical genius. 👍
"The battle droids were broken!" ...I randomly sang with open arms to my coworker the other day.
I don't know why Al is releasing HD version of all his music videos today, but man oh man, I am locked in
@misterbennnn he mentioned it on Facebook that his record label replaced them a few years ago and so they've been re-uploaded
I saw Queen Amidala and for a split second thought, "Wait...is that ANYA TAYLOR-JOY?"

Nice job on the Palpiano.
Nothing like binging Weird Al on a Saturday. Now if only it was overcast!

same!!! i was 8 when Phantom Menace came out. 1999 was a great year to be a kid
that's beautiful
I want to share/ add so many childhood daring to be stupid memories but I think we all get it.

This song was such a huge part of my childhood seeing a hd version of it is so cool

CIA level intel gathering, wonder where he got that experience
I heard he got to watch the movie in full before it released officially

HE WHAT!? I always thought he made this song after the movie released
He paid to see a pre-screening of the movie and had to change the lyrics a small bit
Why did this move me to tears?
I'm gonna say it: this is THE greatest song AND video by the legend. This should be anyone's introduction to Al's music.
Well, it just was!
Obi-Wan Kenyankovic ⭐
Obi-weird yankenobi
LOL
Only Weird Al could make a Star Wars parody so good George Lucas let him see spoilers to make it MORE accurate.
Not true, Lucas denied the request and weird al attended a charity fund raiser to see it early.
George didn't though

Al's bass player has always been so incredibly solid. Really comes through with the higher quality audio.

watched the phantom menace yesterday,
and this song is hitting harder with the context

Awesome Song
When I saw him in concert he sang this song. It was amazing. You just rock Al
Weird Al is a National Treasure. May we be blessed by his genius for years to come.
honestly hes an International treasure no sane human would mess with him
This is my favourite Weird Al Yankovic song
I think this was one of my favorite songs of his.
... He looks so weird without his mustache tho.
HA.

CLASSIC
Now I’ll have these lyrics in my head for the next week. 😂
I heard a rumor that Don McLean loved the lyrics so much every now, and then he would throw them into a performance of American Pie
❤ love this one 😍🙌 my favourite one 🎉 and I can't remember the lyrics to American pie, only those 😅 and I'm perfectly happy with that 🙌
Weird Al is so funny and creative. I love his work so much.
Easily the best parody song ever! A work of sheer genius.

a perfect summary of Episode 1.
Thanks Al- now I really don't need to watch episodes 1,2 and 3 :) :)

oh yes please!
We want our Weird Al Yankovic cameo in the next Star Wars miniseries/movie trilogy ASAP.
Thank you for everything you've done Al ❤

A surprise, to be sure! But a welcome one.
Here before 1000 views! Thank you Weird AL! btw your got MUCH younger! These Midi-chlorians are rockin'!
I remember when this premiered on TV. I still randomly sing my my, this here Anakin guy, will be Vader someday later...
forgot about this so long ago it was a ghost of a memory.

Hell yeah

💕💕 love it.
Thanks for the HD uploads! Quite the treat.
Weird Al's best song and a great remaster!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to help this and every other new Weird Al upload to more views than the original.
As a Star Wars fan I approve of this
Such a fantabulous song

Listened to that on Radio Disney back then and it gets hard for me even if it went No. 1 on their countdown playlist.
why is the quality of these so good? Almost every other HD or 4K upload of old videos is done using AI and looks like shit.
probably a rescan of the originals since they were likely shot on film
