Michael Keaton returning to play Batman and Beetlejuice is the most Birdman thing ever.
Where’s the sequel to Multiplicity?
Strangely enough, that made perfect sense.
So Vulture like.
I've always wanted them to jump straight to "Birdman IV" and have it be the movie from that universe
also money
Thank you for acknowledging the greatness that is Catherine O’Hara!!
😱 CATHERINE!
@@kathyastrom1315 She has her own set of postage stamps in Canadia.
She’s very Pretty 😍
Had to watch to the end to remember how to spell Schitt's Creek, love the Lucy reference.
and with my all-time favorite line of hers from the movie too!
The honest voice guy said Beetlejuice a total of two times. Nice attention to detail to not say it a third.
I suspect in reference to the sequel which is titled Bettlejuice, Bettlejuice.
@@Caderynwolf or the fact that he was careful not to summon him
Doesn't it have to be 3 times in a row? Anyway looking forward to seeing Alex Brightman in person at the next anime convention.
@@nathanweast4397Within a certain time limit. Lydia in the movie almost summoned him after learning his name and saying “Beetlejuice? Your name is Beetlejuice?” And almost said a third time before stopping.
Unlike Community, which said it once per season until he finally showed up in a background shot that most people totally missed.
"Wynona Ryder would steal the heart of a generation, among other things." killed me.
You'd think that would be an innuendo, and it is, just not a sexual one.
she's just a bad girl
Omg I completely forgot about that!! Was she maybe practicing for a new role??
Lol. I got the reference. Got caught shoplifting
@@chrishardy9235
Ah. Thank you.
It's a shame that the Maitlands aren't in the sequel. I always found it extremely touching that they were clearly wanting a child ended up getting a surrogate daughter in Lydia in the end helping her with her school work and filling the loving parent role she really needed.
tho i also glad they aren't forcing them in, I can see them being happy and ready to move on once lydia grew up, they did were parents to her and likely helped her own parents become better towards her
@@KnucklesxReala911 Oh! I hope that's how it's explained in the sequel, but I'm hoping they tell us they moved on.
geena davis also said that in her theory ghosts dont age, which is why it makes sense for them not to come back for the sequek
@@cr1msxn Well, there's that, and Alec was caught up in legal troubles for the last three or so years.

3:41 "I'm not exposing that little girl to that pervert down there." Too late Geena, Jeffrey Jones is playing her father.
I never noticed that butt slap, but now it's hard to not given what we learned about him.
Poor ferris
It's ok Winona was girl after all, thank god Burton didn't cast a boy... for anything, geez.
@@Steven_Edwards Yeah, Tim Burton was always good at creating monsters. And I'm not talking about the dead people.
@Steven_Edwards was it really not scripted? 😰
"It's showtime!" I'm always surprised how little screen time Beetlejuice actually had. Micheal Keaton really made the most of it and nailed this iconic, hilarious performance.
MK had me at Mr. Mom. DEFINITELY an ICON! ❤
This is probably where they'll go wrong in the sequel. They'll give him more time when the essence of the character is LESS IS MORE.
It’s kind of like how Anthony Hopkins is in Silence of the Lambs for only 25 minutes of its 2-hour runtime.
Just like how in the 2-hour film called "alien", the xenomorph is on screen for less than four minutes.
The star of the show was all the creepy physical effects and goofy comedy.
its wild to remember that the titular character is 1) the main villain of the movie (other than the deetz) and 2) only appears like twice throughout the movie. Even more wild how the cartoon made him more heroic and more of the protagonsit alongside lydia.
Well, the cartoon series was targeted at children and Beetlejuice was the most popular character in the movie, so what did you expect?
I'm wondering if they're going to use anything from the animated series. _Ghostbusters 2_ changed Janine's look to be closer to the version in its animated series.
@@sandal_thong8631 I’m sure the cartoon series is why there’s a greater focus on Beetlejuice and Lydia this time out.
@@RocStarr913 and the musical for sure.
Omg I remember the cartoon and loved it
Good to see Catherine O'Hara getting the praise she deserves. Her work on SCTV is great.
I miss SCTV.
That young woman is going places!
You pointed out Danny Elfman's score, but I almost can't praise it enough. His main theme for this movie is SO perfect for this. The music does "evil roller coaster" before we even start the ride, and then sure enough...
I’m surprised they didn’t mention the great use of the Harry Belafonte tunes
I almost forgot about the score, but hearing that small bit was enough to bring me back
My only complaint is that the visuals in the opening credits scene don’t support it. I would’ve loved it if the score played over miniatures of the scenes like the paintings in the opening credits of _Mary Poppins._
Plus Batman. Plus Sledge Hammer. And others.
3:22 "He'll instantly become the worst juice not named Orenthal." LMAO I'm dead!
This honest trailer is for an audience of a …certain generation 😆, myself included ☎️📟💾📼
When I saw the new movie’s ad where Beetlejuice says “the juice is loose,” I almost screamed 😂 I think we know who BJ met on the other side.
So is Orenthal

When I was 12 I had a really unhealthy obsession with the Beetlejuice cartoon. Also, could you please say: "Pete Davidson is how Beetlejuice looked when he was alive"?
No such thing! It was a classic.
0:55 "When these two lovebirds are murdered by a dog..."

4:03 "Man, the 80s were a different time. The worse your hero was, the more likely they were to get a cartoon." And yet Beetlejuice would end up being one of the better cartoons based on live-action movies. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot/revival/sequel series if Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a hit (which it will be if there's any justice in this world).
They all got licensed videogames too, lots of them.
I really enjoyed the Beetlejuice cartoon.
The reviews are just dreadful, and I can’t say I’m surprised.

1:01 "The whole being dead thing." I really appreciate that reference to the Broadway musical.
Such a bold departure from the original source material
I mean, they're woke. But they can take a joke

Killing it, giving them the fright of their lives
And the universe will be like "I know!" for no reason

Prefer your chances down below, say hello to Maitlands 2.0
An awesome seance, lots of good old-fashioned chaos
A wedding with some dancing and un-deading
Pain and joy and suffering, failing but recovering
So happy you could cry, marrying a creepy old guy
And full disclosure: it's a show about death!
I think the Beetlejuice Musical might be one of the funniest plays I've ever seen, I was having a hoot the entire time! And I like what they did with the source material, they really made it their own!
@@MissMisnomer_, it’s Beetlejuice with heart. Lol
Love the play.
So Lydia inspires 90s Wednesday Addams, who goes on to influence Netflix Wednesday, who goes on to play Lydia's normal-ish daughter. Have I got that right?
Well, they actually originally wanted Tim Burton to direct the 1991 Addams Family movie and it definitely copies the Burton style.
She also played Christina Ricci's sister in another film
I mean Wednesday and the whole Addams family were goth before goth was cool. I don't think I necessarily see Lydia in 90s Wednesday. The Addams family never found doom and gloom in the darkness. They weren't depressed goths they were happy goths and the 90s films captured that so perfectly.
Nah, the Adams were like that since their original comics/tv in the 60s. It was more a "darnedest things kids will say" reaction. A gloomy girl who was brilliant and happy about gloomy things.
I blame them all for my goth girlfriend fetish.

4:50 - Glenn Shadix was such an under-appreciated actor. I only ever saw him in 2 films (this one, and Demolition Man) but his performance, supporting character though he was, was really quite good for both of them. It's a shame so many actors like him seem to fly just under the radar and never really get the level of recognition they should.

For anyone who didn't get the joke of "Winona Ryder would steal the heart of a generation, among other things" is a reference when in around the year 2000's, she was caught shoplifting and was put in jail and had to quit acting. Eventually, she came back in Stranger Things and recovered her acting career.
Yes, this video reminded us all of the lowest moment of Winona Ryders life so we could all have a good laugh .
I love how you made a nod to the Broadway musical by adding in “the whole being dead thing” into your dialogue.
The joke about Winnona, man, so nailed it!!!
The special effects in this movie are so much more impressive than anything made nowadays.
That's what makes this film timeless.
I am living for the very, very clever (and sly) references to Jeffrey Jones’ ghastly legal problems and Winona Ryder’s kleptomania most notably at the Beverly Hills’ Saks Firth Avenue. I had forgotten how incredibly hot Alec Baldwin was when he was young. This movie served us Catherine O’Hara (a goddamn national treasure), Glenn Shadix, and Sylvia Sidney. That’s a lot of talent.

I'm elder Millennial and I saw Beeltejuice for the 1st time when I was 5 (like 2 years after it came out, my parents let me watch it when the cartoon show came out). From then on, I grew up wanting to be Lydia Deetz/Winona Ryder when I was older.

If you want more Beetlejuice then the cartoon really delivers. Back when Cartoon Network was showing some good stuff. Those were the times.
The series didn’t originally air on Cartoon Network though. The first three seasons first aired on Saturday mornings on ABC and then there was also a season that originally aired five times a week on Fox.

I saw the cartoon before the movie, so I was a wee bit shocked when the Ghost with the Most and Lydia were FAR from friends. Still good though.
For me, it didn’t register so much. I knew even then that the movie and the cartoon series were two different things.
I mean, yeah the wedding's creepy, but Winona dated Charlie Sheen (or perhaps the other way around) when she was 14 he was 21, and lost her virginity to Johnny Depp, who then proposed, when she was 17 and he was 26, so maybe we should have been paying more attention to the real world.
Back then, people didn’t have celebrity gossip so easily accessible and viral.
Winona and Beetlejuice were best friends in the cartoon so they must have gotten over the whole him trying to marry her thing. They became an inseparable team in the 90s. I have their 90s Together 4 Ever Burger King Kids meal toy to prove it.

Recently, I showed this movie to some friends, and they were shocked to know that Beetlejuice was the final antagonist.
I think it's due to what I call the 'Dolores Umbridge factor'. Beetlejuice is kind of a giant asshole, but he's fun, funny and unique, nobody knows a Beetlejuice. But smarmy, arrogant, entitled, self absorbed, condescending douchebags like the family that moves in? Those are villains we can relate to, like Umbridge, because we've all dealt with them. I just read that they did not tone down Beetlejuice in this one, and I am so happy for that. Beetlejuice toned down is not Beetlejuice.
It definitely shows Tim Burton didn’t just take the movie for the paycheck. Plus, I’m sure Michael Keaton wouldn’t have really wanted to do the movie unless he could improvise like he did with the original.
And all of these ghost shows never show anything more than dust particles, doors opening and closing and handful of guys listening to radio static till they hear a noise that sounds like one of their names or hi.... what an industry....
