  • Some great footage of Barry Island from what we think are the late 1950s. You can see the old style rides, including the huge old Scenic Railway that was demolished in the early 1970s, and an example of a covered caterpillar, like the example at Folly Farm in Pembrokeshire. The footage was originally shot by members of the Cardiff Cine Society.

    Fontygary beach at the start. been there dozens of times in the 60s and 70s with my mum and dad.😢

    Absolutely love love this👍🏼 Barry Island always been my happy place..and this just made my day..love the music..and that roller coaster!!! Wish I could have rode that..😍

    My family spent every summer holidays at Barry Island, staying with our Grandma Powell, and it was this roller coaster that gave me a life-long fear of such rides. And yet it looks so tame compared to today's roller coaster rides.

    Love the old funfairs much better than the shit fun fairs we have today way over the top with dangerous over scarry big rides

    Please bring back these real fun fairs and get rid over the morden shit that's out there today
