It’s awesome that you are doing this for people because sometimes patterns are confusing. it’s nice to have a sew along.

Hi Can you make the shorts mccalls's 8221? Please

Ursula, where are you having issues with these shorts? Have you tried the pattern first? I would be happy to do it but I won’t be wearing shorts for a while since it’s rather cold were I live right now. Perhaps in spring when it gets a little warmer.

The layout directions for the fabric for cutting are confusing. Does the pattern lay on the right or wrong side of the material?

Rebecca if you are doing a double fold then make sure that all your pattern pieces are facing either up or ALL are facing down. Don’t mix or match it. I just looked so see if I still have it and I got rid of this pattern. Both my daughter and I didn’t care for the way this top looked. It gives a huge bubble on the back, it just wasn’t flattering when you put it on. It’s adorable on the model but I suggest going down one or perhaps a few more sizes.

I have this pattern and I am a beginner, so I am making this pattern first with some some bedsheets. I struggled with the 2 rows of stitching on the top edge for the elastic channel as it is on a curve and I had too much material left and had to sew some folds in to make it fit. Do you have any tips for this? Thank you!

Marcie, this pattern runs gigantic. The amount of ease is at least 12” and between you and me its not that well drafted pattern. It’s a tough pattern to start off because they are hard to fit. McCalls has some great learn to sew patterns.

@@MassonLifestyle okay thank you. So far it seems okay but I am making the cropped version (A) and seems okay so far. I am using an old Singer 99k machine with no zig zag so I created French seams so this bought it in a bit. I wondered whether this could have also caused me problems when trying to sew the elastic channel?

@@ThePinklady573 Vintage machine, I love it. Those machines are awesome despite the no zig zag. They are work horses. It could have caused some issues. I would think were you did the French seams might have been a tad bulky in those spots but the rest should be ok. You don't need to do the zig zag for the bias tape channels. You can just do straight stitch at each edge and then loop thru the elastic.

@@MassonLifestyle yeah it has been great so far! It was my nans machine and I got it fixed and picked it up today! I will see how I get on with my test and if I’m happy I will start on the final top. I’m planning to make a matching tiered skirt to go with it as well! Pattern for that is by Simplicity 1110. Wish le luck! Thank you for all your help with this 🙂

Hi, I got this fabric from We are the Fabric store, they are in New Zealand. If you go to my website I put a link to it. Its actually still available. Its a cotton lawn and super soft. Its perfect for summer.

what about the sizing? On the pattern sheet it shows a Large? How do I create an XS.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  3 года назад

Hi, there are two pattern ranges for this pattern. The one i have is the larger range and the other pattern is from XS to a M. And i highly recommend you get that one as this pattern has a lot of ease! i had to take mine in quite a bit. Check joann’s stores, i believe they are on sale this weekend.

Why not show the finished outfit at the beginning of video and also being worn?

Hi Diane, because some outfits are not for me but for my 11 year old daughter and I will not be posting pictures of her online. Ive made other patterns and I've posted a picture of myself in them like the last skirt I made and also a jumpsuit.

Why not show yourself in the garments you create?

Hi Sophia, because some things are I make for myself and others are made for my 11 year old daughter. If you check out the video for the jumpsuit M8154 there are pictures of me in it. The corset was for my daughter, she loves to do cosplay, but I rather not post any pictures of her in social media.

Thanks for the video. At first you say the fold is 7/8ths then you say 2 and 7/8ths. I think you mean 1 and 7/8ths both times. That will really confuse someone following along and cause the top to be much shorter than expected and the waist to be higher than intended.

Hi Vee, my apologies for any confusion. I have plenty of things to say about this pattern. BUT what I will say is try it on before you start putting any casings in it, because this pattern has a LOT of ease. I talked to another sewist and she too found the same issues with it once she was finished. The pattern ends up creating a bubble of fabric on the back and the sides.
