I would have agreed with you except for one thing. He introduced others that were there by name, but he never looked at Melania, nor did he introduce her instead he said "....she really wanted to be here.." . That is what one says when someone is NOT there.
I have pretty much no respect for Donny Dump at this point, but yes... I don't think it's impossible that someone would say "she really wanted to be here" with "and thus she came along" unspoken, but implied. He's had some bad mouthfarts and no doubt will again, but in the name of fairness, I think this might actually not be one of them.

I'm a linguist. No native English speaker uses "she wanted to be here today" as an acknowledgement of her presence. The full sentence has an implied clause of "Melania really wanted to be here today, (but couldn't be for reasons I won't say). He does not know she's there. Plain and simple.
I suggest you listen again : "on behalf of myself, our Vice President, Melania…" Mike Pence was also standing right next to Trump. The assumption you're making is that all native speakers of English know how to string words into cohesive thought. Trump's speech is disjointed at the best of times.

I actually was present for that speach in Fort Myers because I am a member the the Florida National Guard. It was more than clear what he was saying is that she really wanted to come here to Florida, which is why she came. Also you are missing a bigger point which is that the Trump administration has done everything in his power to ensure we were provided with the supplies to distribute to the victims of Irma in out great state.

Rubio's reaction, however, suggests he jumped to a similar conclusion to Pakman, though that's also open to interpretation.

Track down some of Trump's interview's from the 80s and 90s and it's quite clear there has been a notable degradation in his cognitive and speaking abilities, chief among them his regular vocabulary, the "biglys" and constant "greats" are relatively recent additions. This might not be the most important thing out there, but it does feel like another clear sign of his declining mental state.

I am thinking he might have meant Ivanka Trump wanted to be there. It is pretty common to switch names of family members, especially for older people. Usually you might switch the names of people you know in the same "category", like your kids. And obviously, Trump looks at both and think "this is a pretty lady that I might use to make myself and my family look good".
