Well, he did stop almost of his advertising spending.
He doesn't really care. Neither do most of his supporters.
Unless it personally impacts them or their loved ones they don't care.
He just wants to win, he just wants to be powerful and if Americans die of Covid then...he will always blame someone else. Nevermind that he said multiple times prior to being elected that the President has ultimate responsibility for his citizens...and criticized Obama's leadership at every opportunity.
Other countries dealt with this better, we know it originated in China, we know they handled it badly. But the rest of the world has had stark differences in response.
He's now trying to push the narrative that other countries are having new surges...and while that is true, most are not as high as the US surge that began over 2 months ago. He brings up China, who topped 100 cases on more than one day and acted fast to contain it.
Australia... daily triple figure case rises, have put into place strict local lockdowns. As have Spain...the UK rapidly locked down a major city after a spike in cases, so quickly in fact that the locals had virtually no warning.
I'm not surprised the journalist isn't American, the press doesn't cow so much in other countries.

But the reality is the press in the US is very weak. They don't challenge the administration on a regular basis or in a meaningful way and although the US touts that it has a free press the industry doesn't behave like it.

My Father in Law is a Trump supporter. We ask him, “Did you hear what Trump said about..(insert asinine thing he has said)”. My FIL replies, “Oh no, I never listen to him. I get the cliff notes from Fox News.” He wants it “filtered” through Fox News! When we tell him what he actually said, he says “Fake News!” He refuses to listen to/watch actual video. He says he can’t trust anything the other outlets put out because they doctor video and manipulate audio.

I’d like to start a class action suit. I lost my oldest brother and my sister that is a year older than me. Both of them were adamant that Covid 19 was only like a regular flu, not dangerous. They didn’t wear masks and they didn’t get the Covid vaccination. Because Trump convinced them that Covid wasn’t a big deal…how many people lost family members for the same reason? Any attorneys interested in filing a class action suit for me?

In order to get politicians to sit for an interview, they are promised softball questions and the questions are provided to their people in advance. The same is true with talk shows- there are no gotcha questions.

I am an Australian I do think that American journalists are pretty good. But I don't think they (the good ones) get a chance or get a hearing with Trump. Trump just silences them.

Take a look at how journalists in the UK, NZ and Aus (where Jonathan Swan is from) treat politicians and then contrast it with how your journalists treat your president - there's a level of respect for the office in the US that prevents the incumbent from being held truly publicly accountable. And that's demonstrated to me by the number of comments by Americans here on RUclips that reporters who do try to hold Trump's feet to the fire in his press briefings have made fools of themselves (unsurprisingly the criticism is particularly pronounced when the reporters are female). If Trump was interviewed by Jeremy Paxman or any of the teams from Newsnight or the Today programme here in the UK, he'd know what a real grilling was. Absolutely well done to JS for a great interview.
