Trump Terrified? With Morning Consult giving him a 7% lead in Pennsylvania I think not. And the Labour Party leftists in the UK won a landslide with the smallest percentage of the vote for a winning party since 1832 - they only won 33% of the vote, which is 19% of registered voters. They won because the righty wing was split and the supposedly right wing Conservative party failed on immigration and is a lost cause, hopefully to be dissolved. In France the Left won 25% of the vote and came 1st in seats while the far right National Rally came 3rd in seats with 37% of the votes. Both the UK and France saw leftwing victories because of the electoral system not because of popularity..... Be honest with yourself please.

The British vote can be attributed to two things; the disastrous incompetence of the Conservatives and brexit.
Their 1st past the post system did the rest.
In France, a different dynamic was at play. Macron essentially played a dare with the French electorate:"Vote for the fascists in, I dare you."
The French electorate and its sensible political parties blinked. Macron didn't win, but he didn't lose his bet either.

Yeah. I’ve been grappling with this myself, but I think what it boils down to is, Biden has the chops. He’s been doing the job for almost a whole term, he was vice president to one of the most consequential administrations in modern history and he has decades of experience and goodwill within the party. People trust the guy. Folks like Newsom, Harris, Buttigieg etc. are certainly younger, more energetic and could handle the performative part of the job better, but they simply don’t have the credentials he does

British citizen here. Here tactical voting was necessary to turn the tide as the Conservatives were abusing the first past the post system for their favour and clinging to power. That's 14 years! 14 years and most of that was austerity.
This kind of gerrymandering can be positive and sway an election.
Particularly when there's a third, fourth and fifth party.
That happened here, the Greens are into some votes, and the Lib Dems ate into the Conservatives, Reform took a slice of the Conservatives vote. Some independents and the SNP sweeped up the rest.
However you have no third party and few independents to split the vote for Trump as far as I can see. Maybe RFK could affect his vote.. Who knows?
Anyway here's hoping you can scupper Trump's recent change of fortunes

I worked in a polling station on election day. I can confirm every vote was genuine because of the strict procedures in place. A 70million country was able to calmly elect a Government in 24 hours. Our leaders spoke to each other, gracefully accepting the verdict, and wished each other well. There were no histrionics, violence or threats. The USA could learn how to do elections, and it was only decided 6 weeks ago to go to the polls, not needing a whole year to decide. Btw, it is StarMer not StarNer. Love the show, David, forgive me saying for all its troubles, our political world is so much better than so many others. No guns needed, just respect for results and individuals, even those we dislike so much.

Yeah, the changeover of government is something I'm proud of (I'm a Brit).
All over and done with, in 24 hours, and the Labour party are already up and running.
Let's hope they handle things better than the Tories! 🙄
I'm always stunned how much time and money is wasted in the US presidential election!
The presidency is only 4 years, and yet 2½ years into it, and the whole drawn out process is beginning again!
I DO realise of course, that we have the Royal Family over here, that also cost us a huge amount. I'm no royalist, but I do think our late Queen did an amazing job, from such a young age. She was such a good ambassador for Britain.

I think Spain is the clear case where the Left won re-election against the odds, in Belgium the right won - for the first time in decades the MR beat the Socialists in Wallonia. In France the Left came 1st in seats but won 28% of the votes in the first round and 25% in the second - compared to the far right winning 33% and 37% respectively and coming 3rd in seats. The Left did win a regional election in Sardinia but that was because the local rightwing premier was replaced with a handpicked outside candidate which was an unpopular move. I can't really think of any leftwing renaissance in Europe - increasingly the working class vote far right.

There was never an expectation of a right swing here in the UK. The polls have pointed to a big Labour win for at least a year now. France was more on the edge.
Although the Labour victory is largely borne of dissatisfaction with the Tories, and an unprecedented split in the right wing vote, there is a general sense of relief and the phrase about adults being back in charge is banded about a lot. Starmer has acknowledged the potential lack of depth in the victory, and Labour is a lot less socialist than it used to be, but they have hit the ground at pace and things look quite positive just now.
As a bit of an aside to those that criticise the depth of the victory, Labour increased their share of the vote this time around by just 2% compared to 2019, and have 412 MP's and a majority of around 170. The Tories in 2019 increased their share by just 1.5%, and got an 80-odd seat majority. Nobody in the media criticised the depth of that one, even though in practical terms and 80 seat and a 170 seat majority aren't really different from one another.
On the subject of the US, for me watching from afar in the UK, I do worry. Ask me a month or so ago whether Trump would get back in the White House, I would have said no chance. Ask now, and I'm not sure, which is worrying for the world. To me it seems like you'd be better of ditching Biden (it's a bit like the Monty Hall problem; you change your choice and your odds of success increase), because he really seemed poor in that debate, to say that he made Trump look like the victor.
But even if Biden continues and wins in November, given what happened last time and the threats that have been made, that must also be worrying for you guys.
And going back to the situation here in the UK, as much as I hated Sunak, he at least accepted defeat with dignity and positive words about his successor.

Hi, that analysis of the UK election is a rather strange way of looking at it. Labour won a landslide with the smallest share of the vote for a winning party since 1832 - only 33% on a very low turnout. Labour gained votes in Scotland thanks to SNP's unpopularity, but in England were stagnant from the loss in 2019 and here in Wales they lost 4% of the vote compared to 2019. Looking at the majorities - in 2019 the Conservatives had 80 majority with 43.6% of the vote (14 million votes), in 2024 Labour has a 174 seat majority with 33.7% of the vote (9.7 million votes). I think you can't support a 174 seat majority with 9.7 million votes and at the same time complain about 2019's 80 seat majority with 14 million votes? Can you?

Hi Genghis, wow I never thought I'd get to chat to the great Mongolian Khan. Anyway, Trump should not be afraid of what happened in UK or France when Morning Consult gives him a 7% lead in Pennsylvania. The Left wins in UK and France were because of the voting systems and tactical voting. The Labour party won a landslide with only 33% of the vote in the UK and the Left in France won only 28% of votes in 1st round and 25% in 2nd round - against the far right coming 3rd in seats with 33% and 37% of the vote respectively. In the UK the Conservatives deservedly lost half their votes (falling from 14 million in 2019 to under 7 million in 2024) because they are no longer a rightwing party, completely failing to stem mass immigration. They deserve to be dissolved - I only wish they'd won no seats so a new true rightwing party can ascend.

    From a Brit 🇬🇧:
The situation in France 🇫🇷 was more complicated than that.
To my understanding, at least 3 left wing parties came together, with 2 of their candidates actually dropping out, so that only one candidate remained. Those 3 parties merging together was what beat the Far Right party. If they hadn't have done that, the Far Right was predicted to win! A terrifying scenario! This strategic move means that they now have a hung parliament, so it's a bit of mess at the moment, as the decision was made so late in the game.
Regarding our British 🇬🇧 election, Labour (the rough equivalent of the Democrats) WAS predicted to win, as we were all fed up with the Conservative party (the Tories), who's party has just been a complete shambles for years (they were in for 14 years!). Many SNP (Scottish National Party) voters were equally as fed up with their party's incompetence, and they realised that we have far more pressing issues in the uk, other than another Scottish Independence vote.
    David:
Will there DEFINITELY be another debate between trump and President Biden?
Couldn't Joe Biden stay on for now, and retire in a year or two?
That would give more stability for now, and would give enough time for the Democrats to decide on a replacement.
