This is what I live for. Finding this kind of song for the first time. This is four times in a row. Haven’t stopped crying. I’m so happy.
Yeah, it's like an entire Larry Brown novel in one song. (Actually reminds me a great deal of the liquor store owner from the book Joe)
I know what you mean
@@connordebruler3264 I heard something about Charlie Parr writing stories to eventually compile into a book, but then thinking the book wasn't any good. This song "Cheap Wine" comes from one of those stories he wrote. Sounds like there is a longer story here and we're just getting a glimpse of it.
The man is a national treasure.
word
I'm a "recovering" alcoholic and this song speaks to me
Bro I'm with you. Recovering alcoholic over here. Your not alone. All my love to you
The songs about the store owners hypocrisy and disdain for alcoholics
So? What's your point? It resonates with recovered folks. Good for them. I think we know what it's about. @Henry_TownshendSH4
I’ve gotten to see him live twice and he is AMAZING! Such an underrated gem.
He is NOT underrated by those who know of him.
Charlie Parr is my spirit animal.
So underrated have seen him twice in Australia.
Just a masterpiece of a song. So much depth in a deceptively simple melody. Makes me want to drink more cheap wine
Be careful where you buy it!
Kudos to the audio engineers at KEXP - what a phenomenal sound! Lovely!
1000000000%
Every live show on here I see the audio is perfectly mixed. Or expertly mixed. These guys know what they are doing!
Took the words from my mouth, so to speak. Considering were typing
This song is so simple and so powerful at the same time!
Hauntingly brutal and beautiful. Per usual, sound is on point on the backend by KEXP.
I'm applaunding all the way! Had the privilege to see you play in Utrecht one time. You made a hack of a impression to me. Thank you Charlie.
One of the best character portraits ever written. (Along with Warf Rat)
Wow that voice.
Absolutely stops ya in your tracks to devote full attention to his Masterful delivery of such perfection.
I love this- Hobo as well- New admirer -my daughter just saw you in Missoula and loved your talent and genuine kindness
love his music. He is pretty great
A true Minnesota gem
Saw him live last monday in Belgium. He´s very very good. If you get the chance ... do it!
Brilliant! Great song and awesome execution of playing the 12 string.
one of the best to ever do it
Love me some Charlie Parr. Great as usual. If anyone wants to hear a good uptempo version of this song type Charlie Parr Cheap Wine Live at Terripin Station in the RUclipss.
David Wills let’s gooooo ! Show them 1922
Right!?! I've listened to as many versions of this song as I could find and the one at Terrapin Station, I feel, is his best performance of the song. There's something raw and emotional about that particular performance.
So I took your advice.. This slower version, with the 12 string gives the lyrics a moment to sink in. I like it better, but it's all subjective.
Wow. Just wow.
Brillant 👍👍🎸👍👍 still listen nerly every day.🎸💝💝🎸
Such a magical song.i hope write one even close to this good…
Damn near perfect....
Huh? What's "damn near" mean? You find something missing here? Something that he could/should have done better? What a left-handed compliment.
@@TheVeek192

Thank you spotify discover 🙌🙌
Trippy dude. I love it.
How in hell do you find him "trippy?" He's real. Is real a trip for you?
I love trippy. I'm a trippy old dude myself. Maybe you need to lighten up a little. Trippy doesn't have to be a negative thing.
Saw Charlie play the Lexington London (UK) a couple of weeks ago. Great gig.
Fantastic

I don't really like cheap wine, but I really like that song..
It's like if a Raymond Carver story was a song.
This is relatable!
Ya think? It's a masterpiece.
Hes great!!

Com on Brillant 💝💝💝My Heart ist broken 💝🎸💝
Legend
wow what a dude
Damn.......
Old ladies don't like cheap wine. They buy it because they can't afford better.
Of course, it doesn't make them better than other people.
This song should be the anthem of neighborhoods like mine.
This is the depth of despair that I’m feeling
Listen to me, Amica. The most important person isn't the driver. It's the pedestrian the driver hits in a car crash. Not a "pedestrian or cyclist accident."
I'm not exactly sure what this comment is about but I'm sitting here with a broken foot because I got struck by a vehicle while on my bicycle.
Why do SO MANY obnoxious bicycle riders hog the road? They could be riding so that car traffic ( that the roads are there for) can pass, but no. Slows everybody down, creates a situation where a car driver might make an unsafe movement just to get around the bicyclist (s). How many times have I been flipped off, cussed out, by bicyclists for just trying to make my way around them. High percentage are jerks. THEY need to "share the road". And pedestrians that don't even look before crossing, stroll along, knowing they're forcing people that have somewhere to go too will have to slow their progress- it's a messed up power trip in both camps.
the real deal

Class……
On working in a liquor store;
The old ladies are just as bad as the crustiest bum that comes in and ruins your day.
The putrid stench of perfume eventually is the same as the stench of sweat and alcohol seeping through the pours as they sift through their change.
I'm so tired of these labels. Why don't they just say it? It's cheap wine.
The front door swings open, the bell attached to it dings. I see a grizzled man stagger inside mumbling to himself.
The elderly woman buried deep in the Pinot Noir aisle is struggling to stoop to see the price tag on the bottom shelf bottles.
As the aforementioned ghoul shuffles his way to the counter to ask about the price of a 5th of Arbor Mist that he can't afford, the shell of the woman stumbles out of the next aisle and wrinkles her nose at the man. I wrinkle my nose at her.
The bum walks up, bottle in hand, and slaps a single crumpled dollar and an undetermined amount of silver and pennies onto the counter.
The old crone behind him lets out a huff of impatience.
I count his life's worth and send him on his way, paper bag crumpled tight around his low proof sweet wine.
The next 7 minutes are pure agony.
The woman is now boiling with rage which she can only pinpoint as either my fault or that of the man that is now happily on his way.
Being that I am the only one in front of her, she directs her frustration at the only person who has had nothing to do with her frustration, naturally.
She demands a discount for the inconvenience of having to wait in line like a normal human being and is frothing at the mouth when she is promptly told to insert the sharpest part of a cactus into her anal cavity and that if this is the worst she's ever dealt with, then this should be her eternal sentence when she undoubtedly reaches the hot, screaming gates of hell.
Long story short, I would deal with legions of bums and miscreants before ever having to deal with a Sunday brunch van full of old women looking for a bottle of cheap wine. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
Travis Knight I feel that my dude
What a comment. Nice
His writing style reminds me of Mark Knopfler a lot, I like it.
Wow
6 people musta found the wrong channel or else they’re crazy
People don't have to like what you like. Grow up.
@@TheVeek192 you found the wrong channel eh
They don’t like cheap wine …but songs is the bollocks with or not
People do not have to like what YOU like. Get real.
I just like cheap wine? I'm a cheap, low class wino. Then again, listening to this makes me wonder if there isn't more trauma here.
I like this song. I didn't stumble here accidentally, so I guess I'm crazy.
RUclips is adertising something called Patriot Foods to me, and it's the most tone-deaf thing I've ever experienced. Then they are sending me something about golfing. Not much better. All of this on a post by a musician I love.
Google recently admitted that they only care about the supply side of their advertising budget. Not surprising. These idiots try to market me as a product for things I don't want to buy.
