I once sang this song at a party. Matt, an american friend of mine, was on stage with me. He apparently didn't know the song. When I sang the line "anyway when they killed him, it was not me" I actually heard him gasp for air. Charlie Parr tells a compelling story with a minimum of words. It's brilliant.
I am from Minnesota, and on vacation in Paris right now...and saw Charlie Parr for the first time here...(His studio is in the U.K....plus I got to see the first screening of his movie "Meeting Charlie Parr" before the concert... blew me away. Charlie stuck around and talked with our group afterwards, what an amazing human being.
I am still mad I missed him at the Eagan library. That's just down the street from my house! Can't wait til I get a chance to see him perform this song.
This is a fantastic song, but this is the first time I've heard this version. I'm familiar with a more upbeat bluegrassy version by a female vocalist, but I don't know who she is, nor can I find it. (Does anyone know?) Congrats, Charlie Parr, on a phenomenal song!
The people who disliked this must be old ladies buying cheap wine.
I can't get enough of this song. What a masterpiece!
Simon Danielsen i think the same. so good.
+Simon Danielsen I listen, over and over. There is a lot to hear.
True
Masterpiece
Seriously who would give this a thumbs down?! This is pure gold
