Jason, you are out of touch with the common man if you think the average person could afford $1,000 monthly to do housework! You could hire a human for less money, but a robot must cost less than a human. It is a cost/benefit issue; the benefit must exceed the cost to make any sense. Is there a home job/effort in an average home worth $1,000 for the person? Today, the average annual income in America is $63,795 (gross income before taxes), which is $5,316 per month, so $1,000 a month is 20% of their monthly income. Do you really think the average person will spend 20% of their gross monthly income to do the dishes and laundry? Really? There is a tipping point, but it is not $1,000 for the mass market.

Gentlemen, there is a difference between job categories and individual employment. Historically, productivity was enhanced and ended up leading to the desolation of entire towns and cities as the winds of change swept through them. Horse trainers and carriage builders did not suddenly become better at building cars, they died out. Draftsmen didn’t suddenly become proficient at CAD, they retired out. This is the first time that a change of this magnitude will outpace natural attrition.

A treaty to end a war is not appeasement. If there was a way to end this war with a negotiated settlement, that would be great. But Russia believes that Ukraine is historically part of Russia, as Putin lectured Tucker. He has made it clear that anything short of that is not acceptable. Telling him Ukraine will never be able to join NATO would result in no change in the war and only strengthen their resolve. The politico article was selectively quoted to make the war sound hopeless, which is not the main gist of the article. Ukraine can build the same type of fortifications that Russia has built and they can continue their war on Russian energy infrastructure, which is starting to bite. Where is the reporting on this? If this can shut in Russian Arctic wells, they will never be restored…having a huge impact on Russias ability to continue this war and possibly leading to $150 oil…BTW..telling someone with a different opinion that the don’t think” is the hallmark of someone with a closed mind with selective biases

David overlooks that during the initial negotiations in Belarus, Russia “supposedly” not only demanded that Ukraine sign a treaty to prevent NATO membership but also proposed reverting NATO to its 1997 borders, effectively expelling 14 member states. Additionally, Russia insisted on recognizing Donetsk and other eastern regions of Ukraine as independent states and acknowledging the annexation of Crimea by the international community. If accurate, thats one hell of a request… While obviously I didn’t partake in the negotiations, both sides likely argue the reasonableness of their demands while accusing the other of overreach. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle. But geopolitics is never clear cut/simple..
It’s also worth noting that during the negotiations, miles of Russian armor was immobilized in knee high Ukrainian mud while getting slapped by US Javelins, Russia definitely wasn’t negotiating from a position of power at that time.

  • @adervishagentred
    @adervishagentred 6 месяцев назад +27

If Ukraine were to pursue NATO membership, it's likely to happen only after resolving the conflict with Russia. NATO requires unanimous approval from all 32 member states. Considering approval would invoke Article 5 and conflict with a nuclear power/Russia, several countries, would object. I’d say Hungary, Turkey, Spain, Italy, and Iceland would be a few of my guesses. But many others are likely to share similar concerns and vote against Ukraine's membership. I’d wager a good amount of cash it’s not happening while 155mm shells are being lobbed in Southeastern Europe.

On AI replacing jobs, History does not predict the future. New jobs will get created but AI will be able to learn and do those jobs better than any human can retrain. Beyond that there is a fundamental difference with this change that they are not talking about, we are attempting to replace intelligence. That encapsulates logic, planning, learning, reasoning, the whole human gambit. We are attempting to create something which is on par with humans at a cognitive level and eventually surpasses it. This isn't so much a new technology but an attempt to create our general ability as humans.

But first it will replace employees who cost a lot more. For $1K/month you may get an undocumented immigrant with no skills. A skilled factory worker costs several time more, especially with the tons of added costs and taxes that comes with them. Then a robot can work 24/7/365, at 100% efficiency all the time. That's like 5x productivity, if not more.

Comparing the birth of automobiles, mobile phones, social media or the internet to the birth of AI is apples and oranges. The difference with AI is that it's the revolution that revolution itself is predicated on, and the rate of advancement it's going to produce is so far beyond previous tech revolutions that it doesn't even compare. I couldn't agree more.
I would go further - It's funny they debate Trump every week, totally ignoring the fact that a large number of people voted for Trump were doing so as a push back against the "costal elites" because they lost their jobs years ago and haven't seen improvement in their lives in decades. This is because many people who loose their jobs to technology do not move on to other higher paying careers improved by tech. If you travel to anywhere outside of London in the UK or across the US outsourcing and automation has gutted those communities and they have suffered since. This is why in the EU we have had the EU pay to prop-up communities.
Historically, the people who benefit from these kinds of improvements in technology are relatively small numbers of people living in major cities who are young enough to retrain and evolve with the tech, others get left behind. It seems to me that a small number of industries have benefitted over the last 20 years (namely, tech, media, finance, Pharma) and the increase they have seen has lead to the increase in the data that shows salaries being improved over time.
The changes with AI is very different to other tech improvements - this is affecting all industries and all types of roles, at once - totally replacing teams. The example of the credit company having the Customer Support team replaced by AI will happen across Banking, Physical Products, Software, Insurance,. Not to mention Telesales, software developers, nutritionists, tutors... this is way bigger and faster than most people can imagine.

Then, integrating Desmos, and online calculators, and now, of course, GPTs. However, the school system considers these tools "cheating", so I'm expecting most teacher will lose their jobs, to be replaced with higher paid, and more professional modern educators. Working with a tutor is essential for learning. Most importantly, one learns to speak properly to the agent (me, Alexa, GPTs) both with proper vocabulary and with logical sentence structures.

That's 120 hours per month, so if something could save us from all those chores (admittedly that is likely some way off..) $1000 per month would be $8 per hour, which I would be more than willing to pay

Problems with Russia and China are mostly made up. Elites need an external enemy to divert public anger from them.
As they explained in the video, The Ukraine war is a direct consequence of the planned NATO expansion.
And China is just minding it's own business, not bothering anyone. OK, except Taiwan, but even that is partially self-defense against the US. China's problem is that it's access to global trade is easy to cut off, and Taiwan is an essential part of that.
Also China is threatening US dominance only because the latter became way too complacent and gave up it's lead in many areas, and willingly handed over it's industrial power to China for a little short term profit.

Yep. Sacks needs to quit being a coward. He should study Churchill and NOT Neville Chamberlin. Appeasement NEVER works long term against aggressive countries ruled by dictators. You either STOP Russia, here and NOW in Ukraine, by providing Anti-Missile Defenses and enough Ammo and Artillery...or you end up having to send in NATO Troops in 5 years when Russia attacks The Baltic States or gets in a Fight with Poland. Yeah, Bullies only respond positively to getting punched back in the mouth. Never to hiding and cowering. Learn some history Sacks, Learn how World Wars are NOT averted.

Our house cleaners are up to $600/mth. We would easily pay $1000/mth for a robot that cleaned the house and did daily household tasks. Easily.

Biden is old enough to KNOW the history of WW2. If you have a hostile Power, such as Germany under Hitler, The Soviet Union under Lenin / Stalin, they will CONSISTENTLY invade other countries to attempt to build and Empire / Reich / Warsaw Pact, etc. You punch them in the Mouth NOW to stop them from larger invasions...or else you have to go to WW3, just like happened in the Previous TWO World Wars. The US CANNOT remain isolated...no matter how much cowards like Sacks want that to be true.

Hi guys. I listened to your podcast on Spotify. Now I joined it via RUclips. Love your podcast and format of discussion from all four POV. One point of contention is your guys position and understanding of Russian war in Ukraine. You are quite far from understanding true reason why it started and when decision was made to take over Ukraine. Btw joining NATO is just a token Russians asked knowing it won’t get fulfilled. If we said that Ukraine won’t join NATO, Russian would find another issues to request.
Again they are not afraid of NATO. They know NATO passive military alliance. Besides Russians think they are best militarily.
I read and listen Russian language info from many sources. You guys feed from US based news and it is not enough.
