In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety.
But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern.
On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid - a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.” Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.
But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murderbot to get to the truth.

Read all 5 books and enjoyed them. Murderbot maybe getting in a good enough headspace to actually use the "bond company"s name in the next would be good.
I’m reading the latest one now and it’s going great!
Couldn't agree more, I bought the E-book and finished it. The short stories move and keep you enthralled. I know it sounds like I was paid to say this but I'm actually a poor boy in L.A.
I hope they make this into real mini--series or full length movie. Difficult thought because the
superb humor is auto-dialogue. Thanks Miss Wells!
Yea, but also movies love voiceovers, so maybe finally they’ll have a decent reason to use voiceover instead of just lazy exposition.
Murderbot: "Not a robot."
But yeaaaaah, I love Murderbot. I love how much it tries not to care, but it can't help itself. Also, I love how much it just *completely disdains* the idea of having gender or gender related parts, and despises all the gross bits of its organic parts, but also is very sensitive about keeping them.
I'm not into scifi but I really love to read short stories so might try it.☺️
oh then this might be exactly for you!
I love short books and I'm trying to get into sci-fi more, so maybe I should give this a go! I feel like I'd resonant with the socially awkward robot a lot hehe
YES! You MUST read this!
This series has been popping up in so many of my booktuber follows feeds. It seems super awesome. I need to get to it....
oh I’ve never seen any videos on it, but it’s exceptional!
The word you are looking for is "cyborg".
They are not called cyborgs in the book.
@@Memodeth no, they're called sec units, but no one that hadn't read the books knows what a sec unit is, most people understand what a cyborg is. Calling them robots when they are only ever referred to as robots colloquially or as a slur just confuses the issue.
I associate the word cyborg with robotically enhanced organisms, so I wouldn’t call Murderbot a cyborg.
@@Memodeth a robotically enhanced organism is exactly what Murderbot is. They are a cloned organism with robotic enhancements. That said, even The Terminator is considered a cyborg and that only has organic skin.
I would say Murderbot is a biologically enhanced robot, but fair point on The Terminator.
I just read them, they’re not very long but they’re really good.
Why does everyone keep calling the lead character "him"? HE is not a default gender. I don't care if it makes you feel better, respect its pronouns!
Already addressed this on the video.
Lmao
