Of the two that ive personally watched so far one was genuinely interesting and led to me purchasing the first book in the series (Gentlemen bastards) and the other (this one) is a series ive already read and loved, so sitting down to watch you gush about something I already like while not as interesting from a discovery point of view, it was still satisfying and fun to watch......so tldr - yes please :)

Have you read any Ted Chiang? He's the author behind the short story that Arrival (the film) adapted. All his short stories capture that classic sci fi/spec fic essence of exploring imaginative concepts and their relation to society.
His worldbuilding embodies that narrow but deep approach and his stories tend to reveal the inner workings of their worlds as you read them, paced alongside the plots.
Highly recommended, and I think it might be an author you might like considering that's the kind of sci fi you're looking for. (He's more spec fic than the heavily future-tech coding you normally associate with sci fi though).
I recommend checking out "Seventy-Two Letters" and "Understand" to start with. He has a couple of short story collections available so you could just pick one of them up if you're interested.

OK, Finally! I truly enjoyed one of your recommendations! I am far more critical of what I read than, it appears, you are Daniel and 9 out of 10 things you have highly recommended I have not enjoyed as much if at all, as you did. Bobiverse is one of the great ones. I usually have a list of all the things I didn't like about a book series, even the ones I have loved... Wheel of Time has a list and I love that series too, but Bobiverse has only 1 think that bothered me. (I have to disagree with you about the books not ending well; I think you have mistaken the conclusion + epilogue effect with Conclusion. Taylor finishes his books and then gives you a little more to calm down with and to look forward to the next installment... at least that is how I read them. I didn't get any lag though, since all 3 books were ready to read as soon as I had started. So, perhaps, I am biassed that way.) MY ONLY COMPLAINT is actually a small one and it has to do with the time lag for space travel (Not complainting about the lag of time dilation, Go Relativity!) it is that the chapter are not in chronological order and they do a lot of jumping ahead and backward and ahead and backward... I see from the retrospect why he did it; it is for the dramatic effect... Chapter 1` and chapter 61 (I think) in book 3 are connected and just about nothing else is on that arc but if they were done in Chronological order it wouldn't have been as dramatically satisfying. However, most of the other stories were mined up in ways that could have made them like vignettes if they had been kept together and I would have liked that just as much. So, the ordering of the chapters is my only complaint of the entire series. For me to say that about any book series is truly astounding, to me. It is just a pity that there are only 3 of them...

I’m not a big fan of the idea that humans can just be downloaded into computers-I think the trope holds no scientific merit, never mind philosophical.
That said, the series takes full advantage of the downloaded human’s ability to make copies of himself in order to give us a series about space exploration. Combined with the light hearted approach, it definitely makes the series worth a read.

Tho not really that hard scifi as the whole premise of the 3d printing is quite fantastic from a physics and chemistry perspective. Atoms aren’t legos. Keep in mind there is a “stagnation in fundamental theories and science” in the bobiverse but perhaps some of the contradictory with that premise for the bobs “reaction-less” magic is involved hehe.
But the self citing such a (very very bad) purported conference on galactic expansion and von neumann probes is genius narratively.

I want to firstly say I really enjoy your content and your work. I've begun venturing into fantasy and you have pointed me to some very interesting series I've ordered books and am planning on reading. I also greatly appreciate this video because this series of books have been on my radar for a long time and I've heard much about them but no one spelled it out as clearly as you.
That said, I completely disagree with your statement on modern scifi and classic scifi. In scifi, it seems to me that the classics of Asimov and Heinlein felt much closer to "fantasy with a coating of science" you accused modern sci-fi of being. Perhaps my opinions are colored due to me sticking to mostly harder sci-fi but it seems more accurate to me that modern sci-fi tends to be too focused on ideas and science and has trouble actually creating meaningful characters and interesting narrative arcs the classics were known for.
Anyway, I'd love to discuss this further if you're interested, I'll jump in your discord server. Thanks for putting out these videos and reviewing, your work is greatly appreciated.

"Breath of fresh air!" were the same words I used in my 5 star Amazon review after I read Bobiverse. I, also, would like to see you do more content on "hard" Sci-Fi. Have you ever read "Dragon's Egg" by Robert L. Forward? Despite the title, it is very hard Sci-Fi.

The Bobiverse felt to me, like it could have been a prequel to the Culture (Ian M. Banks). I know it's not of course, but... Bob feels like a nascent Mind to me.

I love this trilogy, my theory as to why the books just end and then pick up right away on the next books is that this was originally going to be one book and the publisher said "nah fam make it into 3 books for more money".
