I read the entire trilogy in 2 days after you recommended it during your interview with Murphy. I loved it and now apparently I am on a sci-fi kick. Gotta to see what else you can recommend.
The Expanse series (imo) is a perfect example of modern and classic sci fi mixed together. It has characters focus like modern sci fi and still exploring the idea of human civilization beyond earth. I recommend this series 100%
I remember hearing a quote on one of the big fiction writing conferences back in the day that sci-fi is not about robots and lasers, it is about relatable people in unprecedented situations. And Expanse just nails that approach.

Thank you for talking about this series. I found this video after you mentioned it in another video. I have listened to the first two audiobooks over the past two weeks. They are fantastic. That is actually what I want to say, I really have trouble getting into audiobooks, but this series is fantastic!!! (Maybe because it is first person?) I just couldn't wait to listen to more. I've seen you mention Bobiverse a few times, but I think you finally sold me that I need to check it out. (And I'm one of those subscribers that love your scifi & horror reviews because those our my primary genres)
I initially skipped the Bobverse when audible recommended it because I thought it was going to be a farce. But then some coworkers started talking about it and so I gave it a try, and could not have been happier that I did. Great story, great characters, and some really fantastic moments I keep revisiting on their own. He also did another book with similar themes. Was enjoyable but not as strong as the Bobverse imho.
Have you read any Ted Chiang? He's the author behind the short story that Arrival (the film) adapted. All his short stories capture that classic sci fi/spec fic essence of exploring imaginative concepts and their relation to society. His worldbuilding embodies that narrow but deep approach and his stories tend to reveal the inner workings of their worlds as you read them, paced alongside the plots. Highly recommended, and I think it might be an author you might like considering that's the kind of sci fi you're looking for. (He's more spec fic than the heavily future-tech coding you normally associate with sci fi though). I recommend checking out "Seventy-Two Letters" and "Understand" to start with. He has a couple of short story collections available so you could just pick one of them up if you're interested.

OK, Finally! I truly enjoyed one of your recommendations! I am far more critical of what I read than, it appears, you are Daniel and 9 out of 10 things you have highly recommended I have not enjoyed as much if at all, as you did. Bobiverse is one of the great ones. I usually have a list of all the things I didn't like about a book series, even the ones I have loved... Wheel of Time has a list and I love that series too, but Bobiverse has only 1 think that bothered me. I didn't get any lag though, since all 3 books were ready to read as soon as I had started. So, perhaps, I am biassed that way.) MY ONLY COMPLAINT is actually a small one and it has to do with the time lag for space travel (Not complainting about the lag of time dilation, Go Relativity!) it is that the chapter are not in chronological order and they do a lot of jumping ahead and backward and ahead and backward... I see from the retrospect why he did it; it is for the dramatic effect... Chapter 1` and chapter 61 (I think) in book 3 are connected and just about nothing else is on that arc but if they were done in Chronological order it wouldn't have been as dramatically satisfying. However, most of the other stories were mined up in ways that could have made them like vignettes if they had been kept together and I would have liked that just as much. So, the ordering of the chapters is my only complaint of the entire series. For me to say that about any book series is truly astounding, to me. It is just a pity that there are only 3 of them...

new one comes out later this year
Sounds like you'd like the brainship seires by Anne McCaffery

Hear! Hear!!!
I love this trilogy, my theory as to why the books just end and then pick up right away on the next books is that this was originally going to be one book and the publisher said "nah fam make it into 3 books for more money".
Have you read his new book Outland? I would like to hear ypur thoughts
