I'm no stranger to setting basic configurations, directories, and emulation what-not but that all being said, I would have had utterly no clue where to start on my Retroid Pocket 3 + (also picked up based on your initial video) without all three of the starter videos for Android, Retroarch, and this one for the RP3. Plus, your written guides were excellent for per system tweaks and notes on file compression types. Really appreciate your attention to details for the sake of the purists out there. Thanks so much for drawing a map for this one and the others!

I don’t own a Retroid Pocket of any kind, nor do I foresee purchasing one. However, every Retro Corp video is worth watching, whether it be for a cat break, lusting over tech, or simply picking up a cross-applicable tip as Russ talks his way through configuration. Great work, as always!

Hey! There is a bug on the RP3 where setting any key to the pause game hotkey makes Retroarch no longer detect that button! If you set it and that happens, highlight the pause game hotkey option and press the start button. It will reset it. I figured it out after i had reinstalled Retroarch sadly.

I love my RP2+ a lot. This device looks amazing, but the select/start button position and lack of performance increase made the 3 a skip for me. I hope they make a more powerful device with similar screen quality to the RP3, hopefully with better button placement. I would super buy that.

I have both, yeah software is not an upgrade, but the hardware is 10x better! (excluding the ridiculous button layouts) better screen, bigger viewing, feels 100x better in your hands, the RP2 kept stabbing my palms, the 3 does not, it's smooth and comfortable to hold. Not clunky as the 2. But yes, to each their own. You'll have to wait next year for more systems but I doubt it'll be software upgrades, the Chinese loves to use same software, just different hardware upgrades and looks. We're using 10 year old tech for these handhelds, mainly for budgeting.

go into the "saving" section in "settings" and enable "don't overwrite save RAM on loading save state", also make sure you enable "auto save state" AND "load state automatically". One won't work without the other.

Hey, great guide! This was extremely helpful for setting up my RP3+. I wanted to share some of the issues I had in case anyone else runs into them.
In RetroArch, it seems the Pause hotkey is broken, and it caused me lots of problems by even assigning it to a key. If anyone runs into issues with Retroarch, skip that key assignment.
My other issue was with Button Remapper. Great functionality, adding a Back, but it was breaking almost every emulator, causing lots of weird issues, from PPSSPP not recognizing D-Pad and analog sticks, to a bunch of others not accepting input at all.

Really? He makes it seem FAR more complicated than downloading an ArcadePunks RPi-400 image to flash to chip for plug & play perfection with better hardware. All you need is a RaspberryPi 4 (or 400) and a 15”-17” flat panel monitor ($7, Bibles for Mexico), hdmi-vga converter for a laptop-sized system ($7-$10 online) or a Pi4 and press-on small GPIO display and plug it in for a 4-5”+
      handheld.
The fact finding premade, preset, configured MicroSDs with Roms up the wazoo compaired to Pi is my concern. Yes, I want a product that has done *everyrything forbmenalready*. That’s the point of every computer: me turn on power, me play games I want.

Thank you so much for teaching me. I ordered RP3+ for me and my doughter. She plays many games and they are expensive. I am hoping we could have a great time playing games i grew up with. All files are sorted and ready for the day we recive them. I am hyped. Thank you for the hard work and splended guides both videos and text.

I had the rp2+ and I was click baited into buying the rp3, not realising it was the same chipset. I was never happy with the rp2+, particularly the dpad was useless for fighting games. The launcher still stinks, but the rp3 is such a better system and I'm glad I got it. The dpad is superb, can dragon punch till the cows come home.

There are a lot of PS2 and GC games that will run well - some without tweaks and some with. Final Fantasy X runs well on it, for instance. And I just saw a vid of someone running Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3 well too. Game performance is definitely on a case-by-case basis. Don't expect to play everything and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised - especially if you do the performance tweaks, which are not difficult to do for the most part.

I know that I was anticipating trying to run Paper Mario TYYD as pretty much my only gamecube game i was going to run on mine (when i get it. in theory it would have been in yesterday's delivery window but no tracking email sent...) I'm really looking forward to seeing how it all runs and especially if I can manage to run my various randomized versions of the different games (FF1, DQ3, FF4FE, FF6WC, etc) as well as my psp stuff since i got this specifically because my psp is just too difficult to maintain properly anymore. I've seen reviews elsewhere suggesting FFX didn't run great for them, but i suspect they didn't really tweak the settings (one even said as much). Hope you've been getting good use out of yours!

@@mbjac It depends on the kind of content you make. Keep in mind these videos are relatively really long, they contain no copyrighted material (so zero need to share revenue with copyright holders), and their nature as guides means most people are going to watch large chunks of them, most will watch to the end. That's huge for revenue.

Of course they just ran out of units and now they're not even shipping til the end of the year. Just fantastic. Edit: I contacted them and they said that if I ordered one today I would probably get it by next month. The August date is talking about when the units shipped.
