    Great video, as always! I agree with you that a new device doesn't invalidate an older device. That's the beauty of tech :)

      Totally. Plus it benefits us all - If we didn't have such intense competition in this space where these companies feel like they have to release a new device every 4 days to outdo each other then we wouldn't have $150 handhelds that can play Gamecube!

    Finally, someone with a sensible take on the RP3 to RP3+ situation. Going after Retroid because they do what every handheld device company does makes little sense.
    Judge whether the individual devices are good on their own merits, not because you're upset that you couldn't see the upgrade coming.
    I had the choice between both and I still went with the RP3. It still seems like a great little device that ticks the right boxes for me.

    • @jurjcluners8490
      @jurjcluners8490 2 года назад +6

      Well it makes sense to go after Retroid cuz they're the manufacturer 🤦 they choose to be cheap and scummy then they get called out for it.

      @@jurjcluners8490 And that's useless information if I'm interested in the quality of the device. Whether or not you think it's scummy doesn't impact the device comparison and whether viewers should grab one vs the other.

      @colbyboucher6391 2 года назад +7

      @@View619 "I think these guys are scumbags" is literally the best metric. Don't encourage scumbag behavior.

    • @buster5661
      @buster5661 2 года назад

      They released an inferior product with the retroid pocket 3 (no plus) for no reason other than to screw people for more money.
      You should not support that.

    • @colbyboucher6391
      @colbyboucher6391 2 года назад +4

      @@buster5661 It wasn't for *no* reason, they were ready to release the things when global shipping went to a literal standstill. If they'd tried selling the RP3 a year ago as they initially planned it wouldn't have sold at all, but they weren't gonna just throw them all out.
      As far as intentionally making an inferior product so you can launch something better later, hate to break it to you, but that's a very common tactic for tech companies in uncompetitive markets.

    man its so hard to get back into gaming 😢 my mom got me evicted from my apartment and made me come home just so she can kick me out. but before doing so i came home from work to her destroying my ps3, ps vita, ps3 & laptop and clothes. i loved gaming after work and i can't believe how expensive some of these things are. im homeless right now and became super depressed losing my access to my only consistent hobby. i hope investing into this will fill the hole of all those consoles i lost. it looks easy to keep charged up on the go and like it can be modified beyond whats been mentioned here. im big into tweaking devices so hopefully i can maximize its usage even more than whats advertised.
    watching your videos helped me get thru alot of my problems it helps me get my mind off my situation. thank you for showing me this. hopefully next week ill have enough to grab this. just for the motivational support... idk. im losing hope.

    I have a couple gaming computers, and a gaming laptop, but I still bought the Steam Deck. It has the best price to performance value out there. It feels great in the hands, can emulate PS3 and Switch rather easily, and it frees up my gaming computer so I can watch RUclips videos like this instead. It's awesome.
    I was thinking about getting this RP3+ but there's a rumor going on that the next one Retroid releases will have some kind of Dimensity chip or something that will play the hardest GameCube and PS2 games with ease. My Steam Deck already does these perfectly, but it would be nice to have something smaller to take around with me that had a battery that lasted more than a couple hours.

    since it runs android apps i am curious whether it can run kali nethunter and some other security related apps while having support for the hardware like the wifi chipset and bluetooth (if the device has bluetooth). there’s not much when it comes to an affordable portable, toy-like handheld gaming device which can double as a pentesting tool. if it does, that would be amazing to set it up with a keyboard and mouse. an appeal is that it is not a phone nor a traditional computer and would be compelling if it could do more than just retro gaming.
    otherwise, i’m pretty happy with the miyoo mini v2 as it is for now and the flipper zero. now, if there was a way to combine the flipper with a nethunter phone into a retroid pocket style gaming device would be remarkable.

    @TechDweeb what's your favorite handheld? I'm looking into handhelds I'm new so was wondering what's best handheld. I'm learning about rp3+, odin and ambernics console.

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  Год назад +1

      Currently the RP3+. I don't have any of the higher end devices like the odin. I think if you're looking for a handheld to play up to PSP with about 50% gamecube & PS2 compatibility then the RP3+ is a great choice. If you want 100% of gamecube and more advanced stuff like 3ds or wii then you should go for something more powerful like the odin.

    it's a magnificent console, beautifully designed and there is no doubt about that. But what no youtuber says is that retroid has a bad management of its products. I mean that, for example, on their site they don't sell all the spare parts of rp3/rp3+ and they are removing the spare parts of the rp2+ as well. I paid 200 euros, 200 dollars more or less, for the rp2+ on amazon and I don't have the possibility to buy the conductive membranes for example that are removed from the site, nor the pcb which has been removed as well. Obviously they are doing that to push customers towards rp3+. This is unacceptable and unprofessional behaviour. Frankly, I don't think I will buy anything from their site again!i spent a lot of my money ,i trusted them ,I supported them by buying their consoles and does the company do that to its customers?no way at all!
    Anyway ,i love your videos and i'll keep supporting your work my friend !like to your videos ever !

    Good morning TechDweeb! Recently I discovered your channel and loving your content and the care you put into making your videos unique!
    I wanted to ask you for Reccomendations on a retro handheld to play the usual but specially dos games like Blood, Doom, Theme Hospital and stuff!! Do you know a good retro handheld that could do those well? Is the Retroid Pocket 3+ a good pick for that?
    I saw your video about the Miyoo mini playing dosbox, and it felt like the video was answering all these questions, but I'm worried the screen could be too small for text to be able to read, plus no joysticks... I don't know, this will be my first retro handheld and I want to pick the right one and there's so much to pick!
    Thanks for your videos and your content, have a nice weekend!

    • @TechDweeb
      @TechDweeb  2 года назад +1

      Yeah I think the RP3 is a good pick (you'd be fine with the 2gb non-plus if you're not looking for higher end emulation like psp or gamecube or ps2). Stay tuned for my DOS games on the RP3+ video!

    Honestly surprised more people aren’t talking about the 505. At launch it was priced the same as the RP3+, but now it’s on sale for about $45 bucks less and it’s even cheaper than the standard RP3.
    $115 for a T618 device with the vita OLED screen seems like a great deal, but curious on your thoughts

  • @harrkev

    The only problem is the price of getting one. $150 is good. But add in slow two-month shipping. If you actually want it in weeks instead of months, you need to pay a LOT more for shipping, so this needs to be factored into the cost. Still, I ordered one, and even paid more for the "sometime this century" shipping option. This is going to be my first REAL retro gaming system (previous powerhouse was a PowKiddy V90), and first Android emulator, so I am looking forward to your guides.

    So after having both for a little while, got my plus for Christmas. I find myself using both pretty consistently, I’m replaying wind waker on the plus. The plus actually gets warm sometimes, the battery drain is different too obviously. Later in the night when I’m done with WW and I want to play something different I put the plus on the charger pop my micro sd out, and have been playing arcade mode tobal 2 for the ps1 on my RP3 and it’s magnificent. The regular 3 it’s almost like it’s so optimized for what it does it never gets warm. I thought I was gonna gift it to friend and just use the plus solely, but now I no longer think that anymore.

    This video, retro game corps and eta prime convinced me to finally get one.
    It's a jack of all trades device. I can play many native android games I'm playing, I can emulate many systems and I can use it as a better alternative than the ps portal. You can use a better remote play app in PSplay. This added with the saturation mod provided by russ made the experience sooooo good.
    I can finally play my backlogs like dragon quest 11. The only thing that kinda bothers me is the battery. It kinda drains faster than I expected.

    • @TechDweeb

    I'll definitely be looking forward to your setup/tinkering guide. I've watched a couple others, but I am loyal and will totally be biased to your methodology.
